Strobing

Hi Everybody,

as you probably heard there is new beauty trend that showed up recently. It's called strobing and basically it is another term for highlightning to the max.
I would like to give it a try and I am looking for a perfect highlighter for my skin tone - it's light-medium skin. Does anybody try it out yet? Do you think this highlighter would be good?

Can you tell us more about strobing? I've never heard of it, but would like to learn.

I just bought the new Clinique Chubby Stick highlighter upon recommendation and quite like it. I have to watch it though , at my age. Too much, and it's so wrong. But for formula and ease of use - this one is great.

It's definitely a trend for those with perfect and young skin, but even still is a photographer's nightmare due to all the light bounce.

I am a major fan--I adore Becca's shimmering skin perfectors.

Basically, it is a technique that involves highlighting the face...and skipping the contouring.

You can go over the top (which I find weird), or stay subtle. Lisa Eldridge nailed it in this video: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=YdoL_CCigYU

Applied judiciously, it really does make one look stunning.

I use a slighly less highlight-y color (I'm not a walking editorial!) but the effect is amazing.

Basically, strobing is a new iteration of the super-popular contouring and highlighting trend. By applying copious amounts of highlighter to key areas of the face - the tops of the cheekbones, the tip of the nose, the center of the forehead, etc - you fake the appearance of being lit from within. The heaviness and harshness of contouring is replaced with a more dewy and youthful look.

As I mentioned it before, I would like to give it a try. Just wondering which highlighter will match my skintone the best..

I prefer their liquid and cream ones, just because as a rule, I don't like powder products. It is a preference thing. But all of their perfectors are highly, highly rated.

Opal has a pink undertone and moonstone, a yellow one. Many people can wear the two somewhat interchangably, but I cannot. I go with opal, as moonstone looks visibly yellow. (My skin is similiar to Lisa Eldridge's, and while I can wear MOST of the same base colors as she, there are some differences.) FWIW, Nars' creamy concealers also look too yellow on me.

When I was a teenager, the kids called out "horse face!" in the hallways. But now, in my 30s, with Becca's highlights, I routinely get stopped by someone staring at me and telling me what I beautiful face I have. I'm telling you, that stuff is liquid gold.

Some highlighters work with almost all skin tones -- I have Watt's Up from Benefit, and I would have sworn it was 10 shades too light for me, but it works wonderful. It's more of a champagne tone, and the stick is easy to hit on the high points.

Strobing has practically taken the makeup world by storm and is changing the way people are applying their makeup today. There was a time when everyone was obsessed with contouring the heck out of their cheekbones and I am guilty of it too, but now it's strobing aka extreme highlighting that everyone's so obsessed with.
It's hard to believe that people dreaded looking like an oily mess and kept powdering to take the sheen away from their faces and now that's the trend!
A few highlighters with good reviews are Josie Maran Argan Enlightenment Illuminizer, Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector and Becca Shimmering Skin Perfector (try Champagne Pop if you have medium to dark skin).
Though you need to be careful because strobing looks best if you're blessed with flawless skin with no major pores
