Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Straight jeans

While I was looking though some old pictures I found this:

http://img.photobucket.com/alb.....G_1324.jpg

Those are my Matchstick jeans, and I really like how they look in this picture...but I don't like the rise on them. It's the lowest rise in my closet and it really has to go. I can't sit without feeling an uncomfortable draft in them.

Tanya recommended a lovely pair of R&S high-waisted straight leg jeans but they are too expensive for me. They have the perfect rise and the perfect wash and perfect leg opening, and are basically just perfect all around....except for the price :(

Does anyone know of anything comparable in style but for significantly less? Finding the 10" rise is going to be the hardest part.

Maya, I have a proposition for you:

You remember that I have ordered those same R&S jeans in lighter, brighter blue wash on SmartBargains for $60, right? Well, they came today, and those silly people have sent me the wrong wash, which is much darker, and they don't even carry on their site. It is called rinse, but it is not the same 'rinse' as on the photo you have posted. Here's a not so good photo I took with the flash ( they are actually darker):

I can take much better photos tomorrow morning in the natural light, including one of myself wearing them.

I was going to send them back tomorrow, since I already have dark straight leg jeans from Diesel, but after seeing this post I thought I could send them to you instead if you like the wash:) They are size 27 ( R&S run small), fit me great in thighs and hips ( which are 36" now since I lost weight while sick), but are too big in the waist, which I usually have to take in anyway.

There is no problem if I send them to you and you decide you don't want them after all, you can just mail them back to me and I can return them, I have 30 days for that. So what do you say?

Oh Tanya, I'm sorry they messed your order up. That's so bizarre. Did they really not notice any difference? I was so curious to see what that bright blue would look like too. It's such an unusual and playful color.

I would love to try them if you're sure you don't want them. Just shoot me an email with all the details (pricing, shipping, etc). I like a dark, uniform wash so this looks good to me.

Too bad we can't just do the transaction at the YLF convention. I would be giddy to try them on in front of you, Angie, and Laura :)

Maya, I am absolutely sure I do not want them. I have Diesel dark straight legs and R&S very similar super skinny ones for boots. I was hoping to expand my skinny collection with different washes: lighter but still uniform blue, dark grey and black-black; so I really can not justify another dark denim pair.

If you'd like, I think we could off with the transaction till the YLF convention. I have just carefully checked the return details, and it says 30 days form the arrival date ( which is today, January 7th). So I can bring them to NY with me and if they don't work for whatever reason, I can just ship them back right then. Unless of course you'd want them earlier :)

Hm, I'm not sure which option is better. On one hand, it would be fun to try them on in front of you guys...and on the other hand, it would be fun to just wear them when I see you. Do you have a preference?

Posted 10 months ago

I do not have a slightest preference, it's up to you. If you decide you want them now, you can email me your shipping address and I can mail them to you first thing in the morning.

Check your email Tanya :)

....and yet another touching YLF moment....(sniff).....

Posted 10 months ago

Aww. I hope they work for you Maya!

Posted 10 months ago

Ohhh! Exciting stuff. Clothes swaps on YLF. Love it!

Do I say "I love" things too much? I sincerely mean it each and every time. I’m a passionate person and wear my heart on my sleeve. I hope it doesn’t get old.

Posted 10 months ago

Angie, I feel like I say "love" on here too much too. But I also mean it each and every time. I definitely hope the jeans work out for you, Maya. I think things like this will happen more and more here.

Posted 10 months ago

This is so exciting! I can hardly wait to witness the jeans exchange!

I love this forum ... sorry for using that word again ...

Posted 10 months ago

There have been many times when I felt like asking if the people here would like something that didn't work out for me, but I didn't want to start what could end up being an ugly trend. I guess since it happened within an existing discussion here, it's fine.

It certainly was a stroke of luck. I just hope they fit!

And there can never be too much love, Angie.

Posted 10 months ago

I'm keeping my fingers crossed the jeans will be perfect for you Maya.

And this forum is indeed so much more than just a place to talk fashion and clothes. (Patience just helped me get a pair of silver Docs, she didn't have to do that, and yet she did).

I love YLF too (and yes, each time I use that word here, I mean it too).

Posted 10 months ago

Let there be love!!! LOVE, LOVE. LOVE. As Maya says, there can never be enough love.

I say there should be more clothes swapping here too. Let this be a new resolution in the spirit of repurposing and recycling our wardrobes. Who wants my hand me downs? At the moment, they go to DFS, and a friend in SF who is my size.

Posted 10 months ago

I agree that there can never be enough love. And having a clothes swap on the site would be great.

However Angie, I would be very, very careful when offering your hand me downs. I am the first one to say I'd like some since you are so incredibly stylish, and quite a few other ladies here might share my opinion; so you may start a mortal battle for your things :)

Posted 10 months ago

I think I could fit maybe one leg into most of your stuff, Angie, lol. Thanks for offering, though! :D Oh, but speaking of sending clothing--I saw the cutest little striped doggy sweaters at Cole Haan yesterday! They were quite pricey, or else I would have gotten two and mailed them to you for Jasmine and Rosie. I'm keeping my eye out though, hee (I love dog fashion).

Clothing swaps/giveaways are fun. It's kind of nice to give something away and see it on someone else (usually looking much better than it did on me). :D I have a bag of things waiting for Sarah, since we're the same size.

I don't want to keep anyone from getting Angie's clothes in a swap but I would love to set up a clothing swap party here in Seattle. Is anyone else interested? I would even be willing to host it at my house but you'd have to deal with my large very excitable puppy!

Posted 10 months ago

Don't worry JJ, I was just joking ( I hope that was clear), since Angie has so many fans :)

I am jealous of your future clothing swap party, such a great idea. I hope you have it and you guys have a blast!

I don't know if we could have something like that here in Boston, I seem to remember to we all have such different heights and body types, but it might work after all.

Posted 10 months ago

I was thinking people could bring accessories too so it might be a little easier, because yes - we have a variety of shapes and sizes as well!

Posted 10 months ago

It sounds like fun, JJ, I really enjoy the element of surprise (same as you get during thrift or discount shopping) but I am afraid I don't have much to contribute. I cleaned out my closet last summer since most of the stuff I had was at least 5 years old from pre-baby period. I have a few things in the "holding area" but they are worn or dated, so I wouldn't offer them up. There might be a couple of PPL violators around. I am still in the process of replenishing, which has slowed down since I stopped working. And I would never hope to fit into your stuff, Angie, but thanks for the generous offer!

I hope the jeans work for you, Maya. It is very exciting to see this happening on this forum.

Posted 10 months ago

Marianne - I don't have much to swap either but thought it might be a good excuse to get together anyway!

Posted 10 months ago

Start a new thread, jj. I miss you guys. Let's have tea and see the new pup :-)

Tanya, you crack me up. There are bags and accessories to swap too. These don’t require the same body type or size. I really want to start a YLF clothing swap spirit. How can we do this?

Posted 10 months ago

I am glad I am making you laugh Angie. Well, could maybe have a new part on the forum " For swap" or something where we could post photos of things we are offering to the YLF community, and then people interested in them could reply.

Dibs on Angie's discarded cocktail rings! ;P

But seriously, I like Tanya's idea of the swap tab, and we could model it on some other clothing swap site, like this one:

http://www.flickr.com/groups/swapshop/

I also found this "How To Swap" posting from Kasmira's blog (I hope she doesn't mind me linking to it here):

http://whatiwore2day.blogspot......-shop.html

And there are others out there. I think also that you'd have to be willing to post an e-mail address for swap, so that we wouldn't always have to bother Angie to connect us via the blog posting. Also, I think if it's a true swap, maybe there has to be an equal swap? Say, Tanya has something up for swap, and I'm interested in it. So, I'd e-mail her good photos and details of the things I'm willing to trade, and she can look over the stuff, and if she's interested, then we can do a swap. If I have nothing she wants, then I'm not sure what to do. I guess it's a no go situation. The only other option is I guess I'd have to offer to buy it from her, but I'm not sure if there are any legal/tax implications to that. I guess it would be similar to buying something off e-bay.

Also, we could maybe make posts like, "Looking for X for swap" and if someone has something like that, they could contact me about a possible exchange. Again, I could send photos or links to what I have and see if there's a match.

This could take a while to get going, and also there might be some bugs to work out, but I do think it's possible.

Posted 10 months ago

I'll keep your dibs in mind, Ana. I have a cocktail ring the same colour as your eyes that you’ll like I think :-)

Tanya and Ana, fabulous ideas. Such clever sausages! May I ask you to start this thinking on a separate thread? Just copy and paste if you don’t mind.

OH, count me in!!! I have tons of stuff I'd love to find a good home. I usually give my stuff to one of my sisters, or bring it to consignment. But I'd much rather swap it out here! I had a friend who lived in Bend who had 2 young daughters. I used to box up and send her tons of Mia's outgrown clothing. Shipping lots of things got expensive though.

My husband is going to raise an eyebrow if he sees the words SWAP PARTY on this site though. (hee hee)

Posted 10 months ago

Sure, no problem Angie. Thanks for thinking of me! :D I'm finding that I really prefer big rings and bracelets to just about any other kind of jewelry.
