Am working from home tomorrow. We're supposed to have a massive, howling storm coming in. 40/50 mph winds on the bridges in heavy down pour in California rush hour. By the time I'd get in the office, it would be time to come home.

Oh what to wear, what to wear... I could wear jeans, but jeans are not comfy, esp. not wet jeans (I'll be home for The Lilypup's midday walkabout). The knit track pants seem a little too lounge-y for working, tho. Should I wear faux leather? I must say, my taboo against leather pants for work is so strong, I'm reluctant to wear them working from home. Lol. I could wear a dress, that would get me out of jeggings (which would be the most practical).

On a tangent: Should I try to get a rain coat tonight?

You know if I were facing a storm of such mammoth proportions...I would say to myself, "Self, you have earned a day of utter and complete comfort..." I would wear whatever felt just the absolute best...Unless the office police happen to come by to check on you, and if they do, they will risk getting wet, than I wouldn't really worry about what I wore...Pup will keep it a secret as long as she is given a little outside time...You are good to go...
Yes get out a raincoat and an umbrella in case you need to fly away...smile..

I'm already hunkering down here in the north bay! The rain started about an hour ago in Santa Rosa and the winds aren't yet very high but the air sure has that charged 'stormy' feel. Some of my class's kids who live in the western part of Sonoma county are being kept home by their folks tomorrow because with the long drought stress we've endured there are many worries about just how many unhealthy trees might come down!

I think a gear rain jacket will probably keep you dryer than a raincoat. . .If you wear the faux leather pants outdoors, the rain may just run down them into your shoes unless they are stuffed into rain boots. I would wear whatever makes you comfiest and most productive. You may have to change after dog walking if the weather is bad enough.

DD is supposed to fly into SFO from Heathrow tomorrow afternoon. We'll be taking BART unless it looks like the flight is so delayed that she won't clear Customs until after midnight when BART shuts down. Hope the luggage stays dry.

Wow, you are getting it there on the West Coast, and here in CNY we are being hit by the tail end of a Nor'easter. We have over a foot of snow that fell today on top of the 10 inches that fell overnight. So, that means we have around 22 inches of snow up on my hill. It's still coming down and not supposed to stop until tomorrow at noon. I bet the official amounts are lower, but it's always more up on the hill. My DH couldn't get his car up the driveway, and my DS and I spent an hour shoveling and could only clear a narrow path between my door and the garage. That snow is very heavy. I hope the plow comes again. I could use a little Mary Poppins help here please.........A great umbrella for flying sounds wonderful

I actually need one of the down puffers that Angie posted today.

Hope you are all safe and the trees stay put. I will be thinking of all of you there.

Big storm is here in Seattle already. Lots of wind and very, very wet. Wrap up in a puffer with weatherproof boots, Rachy. Wrap Lillypup up in a coat, walk outside and get back in and dry off in front of the fire with yummy snacks. xo

I just hope we keep the power tomorrow, whether raincoat or not. And I hope I make it down the hill to the hairdresser and back--this is the second most important hair cut of the year. The brunt of the storm isn't supposed to hit San Jose until tomorrow afternoon, but DH tells me it's drizzling on 17 on the way to Santa Cruz.

I hope you stay safe and dry at home. Comfy clothes sound good.

Both DH and I have to go in to work tomorrow and it could be a nightmare. Last week with rain and high tides and freeway closures it took him two hours to drive DD to school so traffic will probably be similar or even worse tomorrow. Tomorrow the schools are closed because it's supposed to be the worst storm in a decade. We live in the hills and there are lots of tall trees in the area. One winter toppled trees knocked out power to our house for four days so I am nervous. The kids' school is cancelled tomorrow due to the storm, but hopefully our nanny will be able to get to our house and we will be able to get to work.

These are some pics I found of our freeway exit during last week's rain. Tomorrow is supposed to be even worse.

It's a big 'un... For the last hour it sounds as if there is a firehose turned on full blast and pointed directly at my roof. Sheets of water! And the heaviest rain -- about an inch an hour -- is forecast between midnight & 7:00 am. Get two raincoats ready Rachy!

I say working from home calls for wearing pj's, but you probably might not want to listen to me... I also wear my faux leather leggings to work. I wore them yesterday and asked my boss if she thought they were okay to wear in the office. She said "well, I would wear them!" So that's good enough for me!

Be careful and stay warm!!

Lol. Sorry. Just being saucy. I can talk because my mum gave me rain pants this evening...

...So, Angie, I've got my puffer out, my rubber boots, and now some rain pants. The planned snacks are lobster bisque and mushrooms on toast with fried egg. I just have to find The Lilypup's brand new rain coat... of course I can't find it, it's brand new...

I'm thinking I'll try a little folkloric fashion tomorrow.

Ok. The Lilypup is poking me with her nose and the wind is rising...

p.s. Natalie, those are crazy pics! Is that really No. Cal?

I should find my rain coat... I'm pretty sure the goretex isn't waterproof anymore. It's been ages since I've really needed a rain coat. And I can't remember if my tall Tsubo boots are particularly waterproof. My new hiking boots might be a better idea, but they're only ankle height and not my usual work style at all!

I'm looking forward to the storm, for my own selfish enjoyment, but I really hope the damage and disruption are minimal for others.

Have a heavy cold rain this morning in Berkeley but wind seems low so that is good. It's the wind and power outages that are hard to deal with.
This rain reminds me so much of the PNW and Olympia. Loved living there!
And we never let rain stop life (or close schools).
I am home today and sporting comfy ink blue jeans (the ones with stretch) and a loose knit top layered over a tank for warmth.
We are going out later to bake Christmas cookies with my parents and I have a raincoat that won't do much in this type of rain but I won't melt.
Hope everyone is comfortable as they wait for the storm to pass!

Mm, yeah, do not have it together this morning. Was going to be up before 7, dial into a conference, and go knock on my neighbor's at 7:30 and give her a ride to work.

Instead, The Lilypup jumped up barking at 7:30 - and thankfully, my brain said *NEIGHBOR.* Threw on puffer over night gown, pulled on boots and leggings (not in that order) and got her to work on time.

Got back home and could not find the rain pants!! Arggh! Found them after two trips to the car and searching the same bag over and over.

It's raining hard, but not "school's closed" hard. I got suckered into keeping the kids home today. Back to school they go tomorrow!!

Lol, Kristin. I've been listening to Channel 2 news all morning. The meteorologist keeps talking about how old he is and how it was like this in '82 with no breaks and how most of *us* out there weren't even born yet... Haha, I remember that in '82 and it went on forever, and I walked to school every day in it. Haha.

Steady rain here and the wind hasn't been too bad. So far so good. Got out my raincoat for the first time in a couple of years and it feels tight.

Oh good! I worried I looked like Stevie Nicks (not that there's anything wrong with that ;>)

I was a little embarrassed earlier, staying home - because the t.v. news was showing zero traffic. But then I found out my exit is completely flooded, up to the wheel well. They're showing two cars stuck in the water. I feel better, lol.

ETA: I almost went with this black stole - thought it was more Russian (hahaha) - but this lighter one had a better shut.

Also: When I had more time and was outdoorsey, I had rain gear. Pants and jacket. They fell apart, and I never replaced them. I don't know whether to correct this, or just never give my mother her rain pants back. For a jacket, I'm relying on this jacket I was going to give away, but it's my most waterproof. It's got faux leather sleeves (the most waterproof part); the body is a dark green nylon, veering towards olive (which is not my colour).

Looking storm-ready! I lived in the Bay Area during the storms/flooding of Feb '86, and it was no fun. I hope all the West-coasters are staying dry & cozy, and maybe this rain will help the water supply a bit in CA.
