Sort of funny, but very ouchy, and kind of long story. Two weeks ago I went to a MLB baseball game with one of my oldest, dearest friends and his family -- they live in PA and are Phillies fans so I took a little road trip up to hang with them for the day and see my Orioles play the Phils, which rarely happens since they're in different leagues.

We had a great time, but there was some, well, excitement at one point. One of the Os batters hit a smoking line drive foul ball into the stands behind the first base dugout. You know where this is going, right? Of course, that's where we were sitting. I saw it coming, too fast to even begin to react. At least I had sat my beer down.

Yep. It got me. Hit me hard right in the gut. Actually, everyone involved was really lucky. That was probably the best place it could have hit me, and I'm glad it got me, and not one of my friends' four kids, who were all sitting in front of me, or his wife, who has bone cancer and was sitting next to me. Seriously, talk about happily taking one for the team!

Anyway, nothing seemed to be broken or anything, but I was just so shocked, it took me a while to settle my nerves, plus I was embarrassed because everyone in our section was standing up and looking at me and checking to see if I was ok. But eventually everyone, including me, returned to enjoying the game.

So, I had the thought that night, and a couple of friends suggested the next day, that I should get a baseball tattooed on the spot where I was hit. My husband loves the idea! I'm a big baseball fan, for one thing. And my husband (a baseball player himself) says that it's pretty badass to get hit by a ball like that and just shake it off. I'm not totally sure yet, but definitely considering. The only time it would be visible to the public is on the rare occasion when I wear a bikini, which is usually on tropical beach vacations where we are mostly among strangers. How hilarious would it be for a 50yo woman to get a tat on her abdomen? Hehe

Here I am with the ball, right after it happened, later that night with the bruise forming, and the bruise the next day. I don't know if I really am a badass but it is a pretty good story for a tattoo.
