Rae, the tradition continues, and thanks for beating the drum on it.
Whether it's called Shoptemberfest, Shoptoberfest or Shopvemberfest, it would be great to assemble, shop and dine. I'm scheduled to go to Seattle to see Angie and Inge and don't forget that Kari is interested in Shopvemberfest and posted about this for the first week of November (7-8), I believe.
I totally get where Marley is coming from and traffic, in the L. A. area, can be a thicket at times. Here are a few links to entice you South and to be balanced here, I've attached one in L. A. on Melrose Place.
The first two links are in Orange County, right on Pacific Coast Highway, between Corona del Mar and Laguna Beach. Link one is about Crystal Cove which sits above the ocean and has the following stores:

This link on Pelican Hill's Coliseum restaurant is a wonderful place for lunch, I've been told (I haven't been there), and the salads and lunch entrees are reasonable and the views are amazing:
The next link is an amazing street in Los Angeles, Melrose Place. There are so many great stores on this one street and I was pleasantly surprised to see all these fab stores on one block: A.P.C., Equipment, Isabel Marant, Vince, Theory and so many more. Here's a piece on it:

So, I'm a yes, except for the weekend of Sept. 26-29 when I'll be in Seattle with YLF and Oct. 17-20 when I'll be in Miami with my brother.
