Remember this post of mine a couple of days ago about the new items I purchased and my angst over whether they met my style goals? (http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....-confusion). Well, it no longer matters.

The rear brake repair job my car was in for yesterday afternoon turned out to be significantly more work and therefore more expense, than we had initially thought. Soooooooo I will be returning my pretty new items to offset the car repair bill and we'll call it a day. But I'd rather have a car that stops at red lights than a snappy new skirt

Oh gosh - I don't know how many times I've had this happen too. Disheartening, but usually some kind of lesson learned, I think. Sorry about the car, but yeah - there will always be another skirt

Yes, well... Are you kind of relieved or more sad about it? I think your feelings about the returns are probably telling a lot about the purchase of the items in the first place. I didn't read the whole thread, but I think you were kind of doubting yourself a bit.

I've just decided to do SYC because of unexpected expenses, so there's no entirely new spring/summer wardrobe in my immediate future either.

So sad when SYC means Shop Your Car-repair bill :-(.

I've been on a few months of Shop Your Cat's veterinarian bills.

Sending Sympathy, Shannon. I am rather permanently on SYRI (Shop Your Retirement Income). And those expenses like car brakes or a necessary new roof really hurt.

Man, that's a bummer, Shannon. The good news is the items are still returnable and you won't have to break the bank to finance both fun and less fun purchases. Had you had to struggle to pay for them, that would always lau a sort of guilt-trip on the items, which would negate the happiness factor anyway.

I'm in Joy's boat, shopping on a retirement income but also not having any place really to wear stuff anyway, so I have to live vicariously through you all.

You are so wise, Shannon. My answer would be, "well, the skirt won't pay for the car anyway, so might as well keep it." Not the most responsible attitude, but there you have it.
There will be other cool wardrobe finds, of course!

Rachylou is wise. Sometimes I am relieved when something like this happens. It's good to be reminded of priorities, and there will definitely be more shopping down the road. We're all happy you'll be safe driving.

Astrid - aaaahhhh...you in my head today? You know, I'm not all that disappointed. Although I truly love the items and had a wonderful day with Dianthus while shopping, I don't NEED them and I'll shop later when caught up with the car bills.

Sharan - ha! You don't know how expensive those items were! All returned will cover a little more than half the car bill

My DH is having to put his parents in a nursing home, and we have to foot the bill for a little while, so it's "Shop the NH charges" for us until Medicaid kicks in (we're moving them to a NH in another state so they can be near his sister, who doesn't work outside the home and can make the necessary surprise visits to keep the staff on their toes.) But hey, it's life.

This kinda happened to me... I was all set to make some spring/summer purchases (and probably far too many, let me be honest!) and then I got notice I have to move out of my uber-affordable condo by end of May. Not knowing what I will find for my next place and the monthly cost, I need to save the pennies. No more dropping $25-30 for a new blouse whenever I feel like it

So sorry you have to do the returns, but happy you've got a good attitude and a great sense of humor about it, which are the best items to have in the long run. I just know you have a snappy skirt in that closet of your somewhere.

When you are caught up, let me know and we can go find you some even more fabulous pieces.
It is a shame though since the jacket was truly amazing on you. Perhaps it will come on sale in a month or so and you will be able to snap it up at a lower price.

And.. I just went and read your original post. To me, the fact that you woke up at 4am, bothered about those clothes, is very telling. They ARE lovely, but I am guessing they are not exactly what you want. I feel like maybe you talked yourself into loving and wanting them, further along in the thread.
