Some possible holiday outfits; would love your feedback

I have two holiday parties to attend that are open houses with buffet meals. One will be a bit dressed up and the other is kind of an
interesting mix of guests in casual wear but the three generations of hosts wearing jackets/ties and old-fashioned velvet dresses. I may have a few other casual get-togethers also.

I decided to try a few outfits, but I'm honestly not feeling all that enthused about any of them right now. Hair and makeup “au natural” meaning I did nothing. For some reason these pics make me look heavier than I feel, which is not typically how I feel about selfies.

Would love to hear your comments and suggestions

Only a few of these items are new, the rest are already in my closet.

This is the top from Anthro that started it all….it has a bit of gold sparkle to it that’s not easy to see. Also pleated overall.
Red N & Z wrap sweater, Anthro Top, Black slim pants, black booties
Cream Vince cardigan (front is woven, back is knit), Anthro Top, Black leggings. Not sure I like leggings on me, just wanted to try them. The Anthro top seems rather hidden in this look
Vince cardigan pinned up as if to shorten 2”, white tie sleeveless
blouse, black slim pants
Black drape front sweater/jacket, Anthro top, RL straight leg jeans
A Dana Buchman gunmetal jacket I’ve had for years, it’s coated linen with a bit of a sheen but looks almost like leather, with burgundy top and jean
Same Dana Buchman jacket it’s original form which included a sash, with bootcut ponte pants and black pumps. This look seems rather severe and formal to me, and maybe not really modern.
The Dana Buchman jacket works with the Anthro top too, worn open as in #6, with black pants. No pic.

Love the Anthro top to start with, great graphic on front, and will layer good under all the toppers you shown here-such a great find! Then I love all the toppers, too-including the both lengths of the cream Vince blazer, but would advise to stay with real pants-even for the most casual get-togethers. That been said, think the cream and the black toppers are suitable for your dressier events, the others+/-jeans for the casual ones, and it's all fab- (hope this helped a bit).

The only look I'm not a fan of is #4, and that's not to say it isn't a nice outfit. I just think that for a holiday party, it needs a little more color or sparkle or something. I am positively drooling over that Dana Buchman jacket (of course, I just love to look at her stuff anyway, generally so rich looking). I also agree with Lyn that the pants are more formal or festive or something, but that doesn't mean the jeans aren't ok for more casual events. I think you have the foundational pieces here to absolutely slay at holiday parties!

The top is great!!

I really like 2 5 7. I think with a good red/rose/plum lipstick, some sparkle at the wrist on in the ears you will be good to go!! I think they are very appropriate and lovely looks.

I would probably wear black footwear with 5, but I have a tendency to be a little matchy matchy sometimes.

I think 4 has potential but maybe needs a tweak...either lighter trousers or shoes I think might help, or a heel if you wear them. The length of the jacket is a little overwhelming as is, but I love the colour on you and it is a lovely jacket.

Our holiday parties are all casual this year - boo hoo!! We have a BBQ here on our back deck, a BBQ at friends, and a family lunch or two. I have no occasions to wear my party frocks.

I think you have covered a lot of bases here Chris... everything from casual to dressy. I particularly like #1, #2 and #7. You have some fabulous options.

I love that Dana Buchman coat on you! I like it both open and closed (6 and 7) and bet it looks great with the Anthro top, too.

I, personally, wouldn't want to wear a long-sleeved cream sweater to a buffet, but then, I'm a klutz.

My favorites are 3 and 7, 1 2 5 are also cute ,4 and 6 don't really say festive to me although they are nice outfits.

I agree with others the top is great and all the toppers are nice. For that occasion I will avoid #4, I like #1 better say #2 and #5 and #7.

You have lots of great options here, Chris! I especially love that anthro top under the black jacket/sweater, and that Dana Buchman jacket is great both open and closed. I don't think #7 is too severe. Add a dark or bright lip (like Sally suggested), and some sparkly silver chandelier earrings for a festive touch!

The new top is gorgeous. Really a great find. I really like it in 2/ 3.

And #7 is stunning on you. Love Angie's recommendation to lighten it up with pearls.

I'm an outlier: I really like 5...The shape of that black drape sweater is great on you. I think I would switch to black footwear.

Also love your open waxed linen jacket in 6. I like the funky rectangle shape at the front. It's a bit of a statement.

You look AMAZING in #7! That style is so flattering on you! If the weight of the jacket works for inside I'd go with that one all the way. How does the jacket look with a skirt or dress?

I really like both #6 and 7. That jacket is very flattering and works well with casual and dressy pants. Maybe add a bit of sparkle (earrings, necklace, purse) to up the holiday feel.

I think # 8 sounds like it would make a great outfit for a party. Love the new Anthro top and the jacket looks just right for a house party.

I agree that the jeans outfits are not festive at all, very casual only. I didn't even wear my "dressiest" jeans for these pics .

The white topper started to look a little dirty around the edges just from one try on, and shortening it would take some work, so it's going back, that's way too impractical for me. I do like the idea of an all-white or white and gold outfit but maybe it's not going to happen this year.

CynthiaWalkersmith, thanks, and yes I used to love Dana Buchman too before Kohl's bought the brand and lowered the quality. More sparkle is a good idea.

Kiwigal/Sally I agree with you about the white jacket. It's a Vince, which is a brand I want to love, but they are ALWAYS too long on me (they don't carry petites) and I need to learn to just walk away. BBQ sounds like a fun way to celebrate the holidays!

Nadya, I can relate, I'm a bit of a klutz myself, and as I said earlier this jacket aired looked a little dirty around the edges just from one try on!

Celia I think I agree about the ones that don't look "festive". I always seem to struggle a bit to do "festive".

Rachylou, yes that white jacket is kapow, but for various reasons listed above it's just not going to work.

Angie thanks, and yes pearls would be a great addition. I don't own a party frock except a black sparkly cocktail dress which would be a bit too much for these events, nor do I own a flirty skirt of any description. Hmm...I still have time to do a little shopping before the parties hit..

Avemariah that jacket is very lightweight and is a bit snug, so I can't layer much under it but that's works find for indoors. I'll have to try it with a skirt, good idea, but for the moment all I have are plain pencil skirts in black and grey. I will definitely try it and also bring it along if I decide to do a little more shopping.

I like 2 but with the lighter booties of 5. The black with black pants just looks too heavy. The jacket in 7 is wonderful on you too. If some of the women are dressing in velvet frocks, this would be a great occasion to wear something more dressy and save this outfit for the more casual occasions. You could wear the same sparkly top and topper with a skirt.
