Soïa & Kyo -Thoughts on new Winter collection

Hi everyone

I haven't posted or answered threads on the forum for the last few days: it seems I have a bad case of rsi and I'm trying to limit my time in front of the computer (hard enough with two deadlines tomorrow). My right wrist hurts terribly and I have no strenght in it, I can hardly turn a key in the lock, drive a car etc. so I'm going to see my doctor tomorrow.

Anyway, I couldn't resist asking you guys what you think about the Soïa & Kyo Winter collection.

I need a new (knee-length) wool coat in a great colour and was hoping to find a gorgeous S&K coat. I'm a bit disappointed though: the ones I like don't seem to fit all my criteria:

- the purple Ines-S is a beautiful colour but seems a bit short (and maybe the double row of big buttons is a little too much?)

- the Yan-Z: looks too short also + the eggplant looks more like a warm reddish-brown on their website (I need a cool colour), I don't know if the offwhite would be a versatile colour for me in our Winters and Angie won't let us buy a black wool coat;-)
(my last coat was a black wool one, so I was looking for something different anyway)

- the Sohie-Z and Joana-Z appear to be about knee-length, but have the same problem with the colours as above

-Yan-T in grey maybe (purple is lovely too, but I can't tell on my screen if it's a cool enough colour), but too short again?

- Betina-T: same remarks as with the Yan-T + not sure about that empire-waist belt, when you look at it from the side I get the feeling that this might be an awkward look for a C-cup.

- Betina-C: same problems as Betina-T (the red is very cheerful, but again, I'm not sure if this particular shade would suit me).

Only the Sohie-Z might be a true knee-length, and even then it might just be the way the model is standing. But maybe I'm in luck and they used only super tall models;-)

What's your favourite?
And if anybody has seen them irl and could shed some light on the colour undertones and the specific lengths, that would be great!

(I will be reading, but am trying to avoid touching the keyboard as much as possible)

Hi Inge, I am sorry to hear about your condition. I hope you'll get better soon.

I have seen the collection yesterday , and it's really pretty. There are so many coats I like!

How tall are you again? I'm 5'6" and my coat that bought last year from them hits me right are middle of the knee cap. If you are looking for a true cool color, I'd go for the purple of the Ines-S, and I think that the cut is beautiful. I like the buttons too.

I think that the eggplant color is very deep burgundy. I think it would look great on you, but I don't know how it would go with the rest of your wardrobe. Here's another look of it on the Nordie's site:

Oh no Inge! I'm so sorry. What's rsi? I had carpel tunnel and terrible headaches. I had it sorted it out with an ergonomically correct chair, keyboard and wrist guards. I wear wrist guards about 30% of the time because they are much better now. But I was using them 100% of the time about a year ago. I hope you’re seeing a hand specialist. Good luck and rest those hands as much as you can.

RSI stands for repetitive strain injury and it's the general term that covers all sorts of ailments and pains related to overuse of a computer etc.
Since I haven't seen my doctor yet I'm calling it this for now, it might be carpal tunnel or something else. The problem with these things is that you need lots of rest (wrist guards can help too, I will definitely look into that), and that's not always possible with my job.
But I do intend to take better care of myself (that includes using my ergonomic chair (yes I have one!) and desktop computer religiously, instead of sitting slumped over my laptop for long periods of time (that's where all the trouble has started I'm afraid).

Tanya: I'm 5'8" and suspect that the Ines-S will be too short. If the eggplant is the deep burgundy my computer screen is showing on the Nordstrom site, then I like that as well. (I have mostly browns, greys, jeans and some black from last year's Winter wardrobe, I do intend to buy some purple and teal items this year - do you think that would work then?). I LOVE the Yan-T as well Tanya, go for it;-)

I had my wrist guards made for my hands. They are fantastic. I used to sleep with them too, take my girls on walks with them, and cook with them as well. They made a huge difference. I was determined not to have wrist operations. It worked! Glad to hear you have an ergonomic chair. I hope you get sorted.

Now back to coats! My favourites are all your favourites. The range is a little disappointing for your needs. A length just above the knee is most versatile, for sure. An empire cut coat is great but perhaps not as your only coat. Have you been to Benetton?

Great collection. I'm so glad you posted it here. I have one of their trenches that I love.

I liked the Yan t if you are tall...it's long and leaner looking...the color on the Nordstrom site that Tanya posted looks really nice.

Did you notice their leather jackets too? I thought those were gorgeous.

I'm back. Still trying to limit my typing though, and that's really hard: I've been wanting to reply to all the posts this week and tell everyone how great they look! Guess I'll just have to sit on my hands to restrain myself, ooops no, that will hurt.

Good to hear your wrists are better now Angie. My doctor told me I had an acute inflammation of the wrist. The pills I got are working and I'm trying to be very careful about how I sit at the computer etc. I'm looking into wrist guards as well and I try to take more minibreaks while working.

About the S&K coats: yes I'm rather disappointed too (although they have some great choices for when you're less tall).
I haven't been to Benetton yet, as a matter of fact, I would never have thought to go coat shopping there. Is their Winter coat selection good? And will I fit into them you think? (since they're Italian I often find their sizing on the small side).

Judy, thank you for the concern! I did see the leather jackets (love the Alanis and Kimya) but after my recent experience with the purple one, I prefer being able to try it on before I buy and there's no S&K in Belgium.

Have a look at Benetton. Their winter coat range is lovely. Course it’ll fit you!!!

As for the coats: I just wanted to add that Mango has similar style coats. I tried one on when I was in Paris. They were too long for me, and not quite right style for my figure. But thought I'd pass along that tip.
