The socks sound pretty, and I like the idea of having them peek out from the boots, especially if you are talking about those gorgeus new chesnut boots I covet.
However, maybe it's just me, but I have a mental problem with the idea of bare skin and boots in general!! To me, if it's cold enough to wear boots - with warm socks too - then no skin should be showing at all.
Yet, then I see greenglove wearing boots with a dress and it looks nice to me how she has a sliver of bare skin showing between dress and boots.
So I dunno!!!
I guess maybe with greengloves outfit it works for me visually because the dress is lightweight, more of a fall weight than a winter weight (not a chunky sweater dress or a tweedy wool skirt). And her boots are tight fitting and tall, and there's just a hint of skin.
I'd say then that maybe it depends on the overall outfit? If you are wearing wool or chunky knit skirt or something heavy, PLUS long warm socks, then maybe the look would work best with some tights, with the socks then over the tights? I guess I'm saying I'd have to see a photo before I make up my mind!
Otherwise, I don't think I've personally ever worn boots with bare legs. Now, there's always a first time for everything! But, I'm far more apt to wear opaque tights, usually in a color that coordinates with the boots for an elongating effect (my legs are short, so I can use all the help I can get there).
And I do absolutely wear socks over the tights and under the boots - not peeking out - but for practical reasons: 1) saves wear and tear on the tights and prevents snagging; and 2) keeps toes toasty!!
