You'll notice that I'm still firmly in the camp of Team Neutrals however!

So....thoughts about this dress? I've been looking for a long-sleeved dress and came across this one. I haven't really styled it here, just threw it on with a pair of boots because that's what immediately came to mind. The big question: is it too short to wear to work in a business casual setting? I'm thinking yes sans hose, but could I make it work with a pair of tights?

I don't think it's too short but I might try a lighter boot. Of course, I'm not the expert on business casual appropriate, being out of the office grind for 20 years now

Super dress. It would be ok for my office but probably not all. How about adding really opaque black hose to make it look like you are wearing leggings underneath?

It's very pretty! I think it's too short if *you* feel like it's too short, but not if you don't.

Beautiful dress. Agree with Sarah that it depends on how you feel in it. To my way of thinking though, I would wear this to work. Would your lovely Miz Mooz boots work with this?

I like it without hose but would also be inclined to wear with opaque tights in the cooler months.

Christy I wear dresses over pants quite a bit and I am wondering how this would look over your skinny leg pants and heels.... Just a thought!

I agree about pairing it with opaque tights, and gauging how it *feels* to you (try sitting down in it too, to check that out).

I think I'd feel comfortable wearing it to work with opaque tights on a casual Friday. Is it worth keeping?

I could see it being a great tunic (maybe hemmed even a bit shorter) with skinnies and leggings for casual Fridays.

Rita, I really like the dress! But it's very different from my typical style, especially for work, and I just need some validation that my instincts are right - that it looks good and can be work appropriate. I don't have many opportunities to do smart casual - I'm either really casual MOTG for a weekend or business formal/casual during the week. I bought a dress last spring where I loved the dress, but have struggled with making it work appropriate and it's been worn exactly once. I don't want to make that same mistake.

Think it would be appropriate with opaque tights or leggings. A flat (or low heeled) boot or shoe will make it look more modest, too, IMO.

I love it by itself. I can see it with lots of things like a vest, jacket or gillet thingy on top. You could tie the pb up really high and wear a skinny belt or obi. I could also see it worn as a shirt tucked into a slim high waisted midi.

It's a great dress, looks adorable on you, and is very flattering!

If you also can see wearing it out to dinner, or on some personal time, then I'd definitely keep it.

If your only use will be casual Fridays, then I'd still keep it

What about wearing with leggings and booties?

I think it looks great on you, and I like Rita's idea of a topper like a vest. I think this could look great with cognac or caramel flat heeled boots!

Pretty dress and it looks really nice on you. Opaque tights would make it feel less short if you have a problem with the length. I think it looks good but you need to be comfortable in it or won't wear it.

I feel like I am missing something--it doesn't look short at all. It's just above the knee, right?

@Scarlet - I know it's not really *that* short, it's just short for me. I'm also in a fairly conservative industry. I would have zero hesitation wearing this out to dinner with my sweetie. And now I'm feeling a bit more confident that I can make this work appropriate (for me) by adding opaque tights, so I think it's a keeper!

I would totally wear this with tights and boots. Unless you work in law or finance I don't think it would be a problem...and even then, depends on the office. (-:

Depends on how conservative/traditional your workplace is! I'd say it's NOT too short for most places - but it's best to wear opaque tights as Claire mentioned. Maybe a blazer over it will also make it more modest, if the length concerns you...?

I really like it.
But, I remember being really surprised by a comment you made in a recent post about an outfit being too casual for casual Friday. I'm not sure how this dress, paired with tights and boots is any dressier than that other outfit. i need to go take a peek at that one again. I may be remembering incorrectly.....

.... okay just checked your other post and I see that it was the sandals that were making you second guess that outfit (which I loved from head to toe, btw)

Great dress! I think if you belt it and wear with skinnies/leggings/jeggings/ponte knit pants it would also make a great tunic.
