So maybe this is why Angie dislikes (eta has a stormy relationship with) crops?

The happiness factor of the first outfit was sky high till I saw the photos and my legs looked soooo short!!! For comparison I tried the white and blue denim Catherines to see if less contrast helped. (Sorry about the inflatable mattress!)

I am bigger on top than on the bottom. Are the stripes too much? Or is it that I can't afford to cut my leg above the ankle? Does any of the three work better than the others?

Any help you can give would be appreciated? Thank you!

Did you try some shoes that don't wrap around your ankle? Maybe that's the problem. Too many horizontal "cuts" with the ankle strap and the hem of the pants. If you wear some shoes that leave your ankle/upper foot free, you might be happier with the crops.

I think the red ones and the darker denim ones are okay, but it's hard to tell from the angle of the photographs. Did you try rolling the red ones up?

I love the stripes! I was wondering, where did you get your top? Is it the unisex mariniere from St. James? I found one just like it at J. Crew but I'm not sure what size I would take since it's unisex.

I like them all. Are you sure it's not the angle of the camera that is throwing you off?

I agree with Wendi's comments about the shoes. That is also a difficult camera angle to get a good sense of proportion... because you're close to the mirror and looking down, your legs will appear quite a bit shorter than in reality. So don't necessarily despair!

First off, I think your camera angle is causing distortion and foreshortening your legs. I'm willing to bet i'ts much better IRL. Can you try standing farther away from the mirror and taking a photo? Not for details, just for the overall silhouette.

That said, I think you might need to roll the legs up higher. To my eye there's not enough leg between the sandal cuff and pants. Try going to right where the calf muscle starts to bulge out.

Thank you, ladies! I was wondering about the camera angle, because I'd never noticed myself looking like that IRL eg in full length mirrors in stores. Diana, I'm about to go out to lunch with DD and SIL and have rolled my white pants up a little!

Ana, this is the St. James from JCrew. It is a size large and very roomy. (I'd say most size L tees fit me but without room to spare.) I love it because it does not cling to my midsection. The fabric has a bit of heft which helps it not to cling. I am super happy with it!

I think your camera might be playing tricks with you. Try backing up and using your zoom. Also if you can hold your camera closer to your waist that will help. For now, the extra roll should help. Love the Breton on you. Enjoy your lunch!

Camera-angle is distorting! And I think the ankle strap is adding extra horizontal lines...cutting off vertical leg line. Other than those two things, I do like those outfits.

I like the white best, as is. But just a little bit higher, and I think you'd be good to go in sooth (I got to say "in sooth"!)

I don't dislike crops :). I wear cropped pants! I wear rolled BF jeans very frequently. I'm just VERY FUSSY about when I think they look flattering. So our relationship is stormy - and not smooth.

It's definitely the camera angle distorting proportions here, Adelfa. Try them one role shorter and with a bit of a heel.

Less contrast helps, and the white jeans with the white ankle straps on the shoes helps, too. The breton stripe works very well with both the white and blue jeans because it brings either color up. But I don't think the first outfit is bad, either. If it still bugs you, maybe some red sandals?

Thanks again! DD thinks it's adorable that you're all reassuring me about the camera angle! I think I may need to spring for a camera.... Unless the iPhone 6 has a zoom lens!

Adelfa: Love these outfits --- crisp and polished, but so flattering.

I prop my iPhone on the piano or my nightstand (on a box, in that case, to get the right height). I use the Camera+ app, with a 15 second timer, turn the lens aware from me and snap away! It's not perfect, but it works without another camera.
