Slowly building up a new wardrobe. New items -- keep or return?

I returned the questionable Anthropologie items I posted last time.

Today I headed to Nordstrom Rack to see what I could find. I stumbled upon something magical: clearance David Kahn jeans in my big girl size! I snatched them up. I've never owned premium denim before.

Also, this new banded top which hides my belly superbly:

Thoughts on the jeans and the top?

Not sure how clear the photo is, but the top part is full of ruffles (which adds dimension to a missing bust.) I think I can wear it in the fall with black tights and a cardigan.

Is the dress too short on me? I want a dress I can wear without leggings. General thoughts on the dress?

Also, I bought this new bracelet which I LOVE. It has ombre "pearls" and a big gold bow. I'm really into bows right now. Gertrude says hi!

This is very easy, love the top and jeans, love the dress (the length is perfect) and I like the bracelet although it is not my personal style.

Did you go for the Betsey Johnson bag in the end?

The dress .. you are right the ruffles creates too much volume on the top and I think a V neck would suit you better.. but you can create the same effect if used together with a V neck cardigan... once again you are right!

RoseandJoan, I didn't buy the bag. Decided not to spend money on that and save it for clothes. I have one really nice Marc Jacobs bag that I splurged on last year and I wear it all the time.... so I don't really *need* a new bag. Just wanted some variety! Maybe when I have more spending cash.

Michelle, I was attracted to the David Kahn's simply due to the name... haha. I was reading a YLF post about premium denim and I remember you mentioning them. I do like the wash and they seem to be awesome quality. Can't attest for the comfort yet as I haven't worn them yet! They were drastically reduced too. You need a Nordstrom Rack in your life!

Rute, I actually like the ruffles at the top. Not sure if I'm delusional. I don't have much on top so I thought it sort of balanced me out. Not sure. The neck line doesn't bother me too much either, but I seem to keep getting that comment when I buy higher necklines. I guess my eye is drawn to the higher neck line for some reason. I like to be covered up.

Love the jeans and banded top. You look great! I love the color of the dress and the fit overall. I know that logically ruffles on top should help you balance out, but something about how the ruffles lay is just a little bit off, to me that is.

I love the dress, and I do not think the higher neck is a problem, it is nice to have some dresses that cover up. I think the color is great for you-- and I adore that bracelet, I want to own it

MC, you MUST keep the jeans and banded top. They look great on you. Also, I'm wearing my David Kahn jeans today - nice coincidence.

I'm not loving the ruffled dress. I'm not sure why - you've posted some other great dress pics recently (like the Target dress) and this one doesn't seem as great.

Ah well, I wore the dress today because I personally like it and I got two compliments! One lady specifically noted that she liked the ruffles on me. Mixed opinions on this dress again, but I felt pretty darn cute in it!
