Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Slouchy boots & black boots (with pics)

First, here's what I wore today - my NAS Suzi Chin dress and Ecco flats, which I really love:

OK...here are the pictures of the slouchy boots with a dress:

What's the verdict?

Here's a pair of boots I found at TJ Maxx. They are Borns and sooooo comfy but I'm not sure about the height...what do you all think?

Thanks for the opinions!

Dani, great dress! It looks great on you. The color is so beautiful with your fair skin and dark hair.

I think that the dress is fab with both pair of boots. Really, I think you rock this look. I don't know much about boot height with dresses so I'll let others comment on this.

Hi Dani, I think Angie said that flat boots with dresses are okay. I like it with both pairs. The brown boots dress it down a bit which is a nice alternative.

I also just saw flat riding boots recommended to pair with an above the knee dress in InStyle this month.

Thanks for the feedback...I'm still undecided. I'm just not sure if the boots are hitting at an unflattering height on my legs. I just keep seeing thick calves when I look at the pictures...

I'm definitely keeping the cognac boots as they work for me over jeans and they will work well with my lifestyle. I'll wait to decide about the black boots.

I think you eye has to adjust to the look of mid-calf, so don't give up on them yet. I think you will really enjoy having both colors in a comfy walking boot. I've also seen black mid calf boots with black tights which was very cute.

Hi Dani, I love that gorgeous dress. What a good choice from the sale. I don't remember seeing that one there. I love it because you are wearing it casual and it can be dressy too.
I think the black boots look best with the blue color of the dress. I think having some patterned hose would be nice too.
The congnac colored boots, like you already said, look great with skinny jeans.

Told you this look would take some getting used to! I know my YLF’ers :0)

Dani, you look absolutely fabulous! In fact, you look KILLER. I can’t be more succinct! I actually much prefer that gorgeous frock with the boots than with the flats.

Personally, I prefer a bit of “slouchy volume” on a boot of that length with a little dress. It tends to balance things out. That’s why I desperately wanted to push down Khris’s boots that looked snug on the calf.

Dani, why don’t you pair this frock with your beautiful tan knee-high boots and compare the look.

p.s. post on this look is coming up this week.

Dani,
I like the first look best, because of the slouch and the color of the boot. Chestnut is so great with the dress!!

I agree with the ladies above, the slouchy chestnut ones look awesome! I would personally not wear the black ones with skirts/dresses, only with pants.

Love the dress! Stuning color on you!
I prefer the black boot just because it makes you legs slimmer, but I agree it they are more appropriate for pants.. maybe if you try the boots with a dark tight..

I too LOVE the dress with the slouchy chestnut boots! I am all over this look, (in theory) and on the hunt for slouchy boots to wear with dresses. And the dress looks fantastic on you :-)

Love the dress with the boots, especially the chestnut slouchy ones! Excellent!!!

Thanks...I think I'm slowly wrapping my head around this look.

So to summarize, the verdict is that the slouchy boots with the dress are fine but the black boots won't work with dresses and skirts? If so, I'm going to be returning the black boots as I am specifically looking for boots to wear with skirts and dresses. Let me know if I've misunderstood.

One other question, is a sack dress the only type of dress that will work with this look? If you are going to cover this in your blog post, Angie, I can certainly wait to find out the answer :)

bumping to get answers to questions about the black boots :)

Hi Dani

I'm late to the party, but I think you're right yes, the black boots are less suitable to wear with frocks and skirts. It's a shame though, if they are so comfortable.

I really love the chestnut slouchy boots on you and just wanted to say that that dress (and colour) is absolutely FAB!

Oh, I think you can use other styles of dresses for this look too (sheaths, sweater dresses, empire waist...). It's probably a matter of experimenting with what works best for you. I really hope we'll get to see more slouchy boots looks!

You've understood 100%, Dani. Most frocks should work with slouch boots as long as you keep the hemline shorter.

Dani we are dress and boot twins (although my boots are grey)! I bought that dress in the NAS as well. Loving the way you have paired both together! I will try that too I think!! I agree that the black boot doesn't work as well with the dress for some reason - maybe it is the scrunch factor that makes the difference?

I'm late to the thread but Dani - that dress is incredible! Lovely color, drape, detail. I like it with the chestnut boots as well. I think yublocka is right that the black is too tight.... do the boots have any scrunch? Think they will loosen up? I don't think the problem is the color, as your hair is dark, so black "bookends" your look, and you could wear with black tights. I think it's more the slouchability is off?

Okay, I seem to be in the minority, but I think the dress looks best with the flats. It's okay with the slouchy brown boots (cute boots!), but I don't much care for it with the black boots. The color of the dress is so pretty on you!
