Skirt orphan needs shoes to go out to play

I really liked this outfit Angie featured, and I have this Theory silk skirt I keep trying to wear, but feel stymied by not having a shoe option that feels right.
The shoes shown are the ones I sent back, so they aren't in the equation.

#1-- with a dark blue chambray shirt--? if it's too big under arms/sides for the tucked-in skirt outfit, whereas for a more casual outfit I like the extra room.
#2 is AT taupe silk camp shirt--a good color match but then skews the outfit toward the taupe (re: belt matching issues) . #1 shown with a taupey beige belt that fits and #2 with a cream belt that is too long (is a jeans hip belt). I think a cream belt would look good to continue the cream top banding in the skirt --so again, shopping list.

I also have several knit tops that work but again, just can't seem to like my shoe options enough to get out of the house.

I have nude ballet flats that don't quite cut it; camel wedges that are too caramel-y and not comfortable enough. I have a taupe pump but again, I feel a bit teetery in it so I opt out. So, I really want either a flat or at most 1" wedge or block heel, but need something in the style that compensates for lack of heel and doesn't look frumpy.

Here is what I've been keeping an eye out for so far:

--I think a very dressy pale-colored slipper flat like the one shown would work, but I haven't found another one yet. Or some other dressy loafer, if that's not an oxymoron. Cream, or nude, or light taupe, maybe metallic. My new RL black & cream ones don't work due to black, and style is a bit sporty (penny-loafer type).
--Possibly pointy toe flat if comfortable enough, because it is not work-wear.
--a closed toe wedge sandal of some sort, since with nude hose it is a spring-summer type outfit

Other criteria are I would not want to "invest" much UNLESS it is a) comfortable enough and appropriate enough for work outfits or b) versatile enough to "make" some other dressy outfits . (problem of trying to wear the occasional dressier skirt or dress).

What do you think? Do you have the perfect shoe in your mind's eye that would allow the outfit to be modern but pump-less? Should I keep trying to create this aspirational outfit, or put the skirt out to pasture?

I think what's kind of tricking my eye is that the nude flat is very similar in colour to the nude band at the top of the skirt and my eye doesn't like that. What about a darker flat so that it echoes the darkening gradient of the print on the skirt?

I wear my midis with flats - I just make sure that it's an elongating flat

Nice skirt! I like the pairing with the button-downs. I do like the AT shirt better than the other one.

As for the shoe issue, that is a toughie. I will say that I didn't read your entire post all the way through the first time around but started looking at the pics. And I said, "What that skirt needs is some heels! That will fix her problem." But then I read the rest of the post and saw that that is the problem! :^)

You need to lengthen your leg line somehow. What about a pair of nude, low-vamped pointy toe flats or the same as a low wedge heel? I have never tried either with my outfits, so I can't speak from experience, but I know that many fabbers say that the pointy toe is very elongating on the pointy-toed flats. The nude color will definitely help extend the leg, and a low vamp will also extend the leg.

Well, I can show you below what I would wear with that skirt. Unfortunately, the pewter ones are only left in size 6 1/2 now, but there are other options that could definitely work. I can't say enough good things about the comfort of the JJill skimmers and D'Orsay flats. I have big foot difficulties, and these are beyond comfortable.

It might be worth ordering those J Jill skimmers. Carter does really well with them and she has definite foot issues, plus the price is right. You can get them in multiples if they work, and that would solve a lot of woes for other skirt (and pant) outfits where you want a bit of an update but without compromising comfort. I can't speak of them personally because I'm almost 100% sure they wouldn't work for me (due to my own peculiar fit issues). But if they did, I think I'd have a couple of pairs in the closet.

Anna, I liked those oxfords when you posted them. I actually tried the Delmans in the Oxford style too but have never tried this brand.
Gigi-/ I know! I should probably think even harder about my skirts because I know I'm gonna say no held!
Carter and Suz-- something like that may be my best bet for elongating, modern look in a flat. If a good price I can justify having them for limited but specific occasion wear.
I've got 2 weddings to attend - May and July-and would like flats for both, or for sure for one which is outdoors.

Beautiful skirt! I like both shirts with it. You could also try pointy toe flats in an animal print. A kind of loafer could work, too, or ballet flats. I'd love to see this skirt paired with a little leopard.
