Finding and understanding your body type

Skirt length confusion all over again!

I posted this as a comment on the "Bending the body type guidelines" but I thought it might belong here instead.

I am really trying hard to wear age appropriate clothing while still wearing fun, flirty, funky pieces. It is very hard for me because I am so young at heart. I am very confused now with the skirt and dress lengths. I passed up a very cute dress because I thought it was too short for me at 39. Is it only okay with boots or is that just a personal decision? Is it okay to wear shorter lengths with tights in the winter but maybe not bare legs in the summer? Should the skirts and dresses that are shorter be straight or is a full skirt pushing it? I don’t want to keep passing up these darling dresses because of the length! Oh my! I don’t think I will ever get this right. :(

Try the shorter dresses with leggings underneath!

Yes, try the leggings. Finding dresses that hit the knee or even just above is a real challenge right now. Angie also introduced me to jeans worn under dresses. It takes experimenting with dress styles that work with your figure and with leggings or jeans. I've had the best luck with sheath style, but wrap and shirtwaists may also work.
Another thing I've done is to wear the bit-too-short-for-my-age skirt or dress with micro fishnets in nude or black. I'm not sure this works and should post photos to get feedback. Best is to hold out for the right length dress or longer that can be shortened. You don't want to overload your closet with what's not quite right even if it's cute. When I've forced myself to be picky I've never regretted it. Something else always comes along.
