I took out my suitcase full of summer clothes yesterday, just to see what's in there. I'm grappling with the fact that I don't really have many shorts that I like, apart from gear. Last year I turned several old pairs of jeans into cut-offs. I have to say, I don't find denim shorts very practical. If it's hot enough to wear shorts, it's probably too hot for me to want to wear denim. I like skirts and dresses in theory, but in practice they're often a bit too fussy or precious.

Last year, I ended up wearing a pair of lightweight linen pants, rolled at the ankle, as often as I possibly could, but I don't think I'm ready to be a pants-all-summer person. It's a short season here, I feel like I need to take advantage of it. I'm really a little stumped.

So -- do you wear shorts? What lengths, styles, and materials do you prefer? Or do you go the skirts/dresses route when it's too hot for pants? Or very lightweight full-length pants and crops? Skorts are not on the table -- I find them fussy, hard to get the right fit, and like I said, I have plenty of hot weather gear options.
