Short Trenchcoat - K/R?

I found this short trenchcoat at Nordstrom and it followed me home. I would not have paid any attention to it online, because of the detachable capelet which I'm not crazy about. However, without the capelet, it's a great little short trenchcoat and fits me perfectly. I wanted a few more fall/sprint outerwear choices and although I probably overdo black, it makes me feel happy to wear it. Grounded or something.

I think this also might be wearable as a topper indoors too...maybe with the belt removed. Need to try some ideas.

...and....only one was left, it was my size, and 60% off!

I like it! I know if can seem wasteful to forgo the cape but if the main item is great and price is ok then that's great.
I still want a longer length trench but I find short trenches very useful over all these longer heavier tops when a blazer won't work and I don't need to wear the topper once I'm indoors at work.

Hi Chris --

If it works for your weather and lifestyle, then it may be a keeper for sure.

I'm on foot in windy rain a lot and this wouldn't be enough coverage for me. But Unfrumped has referenced the perfect type of use assuming your weather is drier and/or it's more of a car-to-door situation.

ps I actually like it with the cape, but of course I could see that being overwhelming, too.

It's a lovely jacket. I really like the cape --dramatic but not too too. Did you try the jacket unbuttoned, but with the cape on? I liked it that way too.

We need to see it on you. I think I would lose the cape, too. Even though I love ponchos, the cape seems over the top. I would feel like I was wearing a costume. The underlying jacket seems pretty nice. Is black a color you want to emphasize in your wardrobe?

Here are some pics...and wanted to note that I already have regular length trenchcoats in black and light camel that serve as raincoats. This one would be more like a jacket in terms of usage. After trying it on I think it's a bit too heavy for indoor wear, at least it is with the cape on.

1 & 2 with light brown flares and red/brown/black animal print scarf, black booties, cape on
3- with red straight leg jeans, grey tneck, black loafers, cape on
4 – same without cape

The cape portion is just a little too long on you, Chris. Remind me - are you petite?

I wonder whether you shouldn't hold out for something longer. The length on this trench is hitting you at an awkward spot, although the fit is nice. What do you think?

Angie yes I'm am quite petite - 5' 1". I agree that the cape is too long. I do see what you are saying: the hem hits me at my widest point, which is never a great look on me. Good fit but not the best length.

Good advice, I will think about returning it.

I actually think a lighter weight topper, like a moto jacket style would be a more versatile wardrobe addition at this point.
