Shiny - channeling Anne

Ever since Anne was so brilliant to combine red with turquoise, I have really wanted to try myself. It's a combo I would have never considered on my own in a zillion years, but it looks so amazing on her, and I fell in love with the idea.

Today I finally got around to trying it myself:

without cardi

This is an ATL dress I bought in the beginning of the summer. When it was rainy and chilly in June, I wore it with black cropped leggings, silver flats, silver jewelry, white cami, and a black cardigan... unfortunately I never took a photo to capture that outfit. (But you can imagine!)

Today was hot, humid, terribly muggy... awful! The cardi was really only needed for indoors in the AC. A cami would've been too hot as well. I got inspired to add the turquoise necklace as a pop of color... then that led me to add the cardi and go all out to channel Anne!

Only nit about this outfit: the necklace is actually silver, as is the (scant) hardware on the purse, and the sandals (which are my only ones at the moment) have gold accents. This would work fine with the KC pewter wedges, since the silver of the necklace is very muted and not too shiny, but I needed practical flat shoes today, so I went ahead and mixed anyway. What do you think?

Thanks Anne for the inspiration! I hope I did you justice!

I have a lot of turquoise, but I never would have thought of mixing red and turquoise together, either. It looks great!

I think it's fine to mix metallics. I do it with jewelry all the time - say, rings and necklaces (as my wedding rings are gold). Why not jewelry and shoes?

Wow, I'm surprised red and turquoise is such a wild combination. It's as basic for me as black and white. As far as non-neutrals go, red and turquoise are the most prominent colors in my wardrobe because I just adore how they look both individually and together.

...and I like how they look on YOU!

That dress is great on you, Shiny. I love that color combo but I've just looked in my closet and I don't have one single thing that is red...I guess the color hasn't been in favor for a while or I haven't looked hard enough. Note to self...find some red articles of clothing!

You way surpassed me Shiny! Actually I have often noted Maya talking about red and turquoise.

Wow Shiny, everything I've seen you wear is wonderful and this is no exception. I'm fairly new here but I'm really impressed! I happen to love this combination of colors, great job!

KILLER frock, Shiny.

The first person I think of when it comes to combining turquoise and red is Maya. I also adore that colour combo, which is why I wore it in NYC when we first met. And guess what, Maya was wearing red and turquoise when she met me for the first time too.

Nice to be channeled, Anne.

Of course - Angie and Maya too! It's just that I have had this picture in my head for a long while of beautiful Anne with her blonde hair wearing a gorgeous red sweater and a turquoise top. To me, it is a wild combination because prior to YLF I would have never considered mixing these two - unless they were already mixed in a patterned item. It's just not a combo that was very intuitive for me, because I'm not as clever or brave with color mixing as you are, Maya and Angie!

Dani, I think you are right, that red - particularly a blue-red - has not been as "in" in recent years. It's always been a flattering color on me, but I OD'd completely on the color in the past. I remember when DH and I were first dating, in 2002, he teased me because most of my tops, if they weren't white or black, were red. I then weaned myself off the red and now I'm finding I am craving it again.

You know the irony of my being the inspiration is that I just put those 2 items together just because I was showing the 2 new things I had bought! (and I showed turquoise instead of black ( I bought both) because it is easier to show details in colour).
But I can handle being called beautiful!

Mixing metals is perfectly fine according to TLC's What Not To Wear :)

Love the red-turquoise combination and even have it in my house. I ordered a silk red and turquoise Asian print blouse at NAS because it was so "me" that I couldn't resist. It hasn't even been shipped yet. The leather jacket should come tomorrow :)
