Hi everyone,
Well, it was finally a successful week of picture-taking! I didn't laze out halfway through the week like i did the last couple weeks!

this outfit looks a lot brighter in the picture that it was in real life...i think i'm afraid it looks a bit too youthful/emo, though. i mean, i know im only 22 so it's not like i should be dolled up in stuffy suits or anything, but i guess it's not as sophisticated as i would have liked.

i really like this shirt it's kind of like sweatshirt-material so it's super comfy but the fit makes it from looking too, well, sweatshirt-y.

i actually got to wear ballet flats today! i get a little tired of the converse sometimes, seeing as though they're my only good winter shoes. but, it was snowing this day, so i switched from snow boots to ballet flats for work.

Shell, you looked fabulous , as you always do. I really love your youthful style. My favorites are the first and the last outfit.

I have seen the whole pink/orange combo on someone on YLF and fell in love with it, and it now looks great on you too. I even got an orange cami to layer under pink tops, since I can't wear orange at all, that's about the only way I could make it work. So I am really jealous of you wearing orange so well.

Shell, I don't think the first outfit looks too emo/teenybopper, but if you're concerned about it I think it's as easy as switching out the shoes. If you upgrade them to a boot or a ballet flat it will make a world of difference. I love Cons but I don't really think of them as sophisticated. There is nothing wrong with that, but if you want to be sophisticated, the Cons are not the shoes to achieve that. They're more for a casual, playful look to me. The pink and orange look fab together though.

The rest of the outfits also look great! You have such a clearly defined style. I'm 3 years older than you and I still feel like I haven't really found my style identity yet, so I admire you for that!

Shell -- I always admire the way you combine colors and I really like Monday's pink/orange. I agree with Maya that different shoes would make it seem less young. So don't give up on the outfit. I love the royal blue cardigan on Thursday -- great color. The rest of the week was great as well!

My favourite is the pink/orange combo on Monday too. You were those colours amazingly well.
The purple vest with the pink shirt brought a smile to my face, such a fun outfit as well.

Anyway, just wanted to say that you really looked lovely all week (again). How do you guys do that week after week?-)

What is an emo?

You look great all week, Shell! I especially love the necklace of the last outfit. It’s amazing how many pink things you own. There are at least 3 pink items surrounding you in every picture you post. It’s fun to have a favourite colour Will your bridesmaids wear a shade of pink?

This is not really accurate but it's the most succinct explanation I can give: Emo is just a whinier, crybabier variation on the standard hipster. I haven't thought about this too much since I was freshman in college. I think everyone I know has since grew out of that stereotype, thank god.

I don't think Shell looks that way at all. I lived near Williamsburg, Brooklyn for 4 years and went to art school for 6 years. I am VERY familiar with this fashion statement. No self-respecting emo kid would wear such bright and cheerful colors.

And honestly Shell, you are too old to be emo! Emo is something I think of when I think about teenage social misfits.

Angie, maya's explanation of "emo" is sort of what i had in mind. i tend to use the word "emo" a little liberally. i am so not "emo", so i guess i meant it more as a joke. but, despite my joking, they do give more of a casual/punk vibe than i guess id like.

all the lasses here with converse (tanya and angie seem to come to mind) seem to make their converse much less punk-y, and im not quite sure how they do it. any suggestions? or am i totally off base in thinking that mine look less sophisticated than theirs?

oh, and angie - i never realized how many pink things are in my photos! as for the wedding, our colors are pink and orange (steve's fave color), so the girls are gonna wear black dresses w/ pink accessories and the guys will wear black tuxes w/ orange vests/ties/whatever. i was tempted to have the girls wear pink dresses, but i thought there'd be too much pink w/ the accessories + flowers and all that.

Generally these kids like to straighten their hair, wear very very skinny, tight jeans, many times with rips, and they generally look kind of serious, if that makes sense. I am told that emo boys used to buy girl's jeans to get the right look, but now they make these jeans for boys, so that no longer is necessary. I surmise that on the spectrum of "types," emo falls somewhere between hipster and goth, and is closer to hipster, because now the hip people have adopted some of the emo styles. So complicated! In my day we just had freaks, geeks, jocks and regular people!

Oh my! So much meaning to the word “emo”. NEVER heard of the term. Thanks for the explanations. I think Goth comes closest to emo in my world. But there is no age restriction. You can be a 60 year old Goth is Seattle. And believe me there are plenty of those around.

Shell, I adore the sound of what the attendants are wearing at your wedding. Have you set a date? Please keep us posted. I LOVE weddings! How is the dress coming along?

As far as Converse go, I suppose I’m a little anal about keeping them clean (both Greg’s and mine). I feel it keeps my look polished. I have 5 pairs in rotation so there’s no bottle neck. And they get really dirty when I’m out with the dogs. But you look fab in your Converse. Not punky at all!
