Shell - Keep or Toss?

Hi ladies,
It's been awhile since I've posted - very busy with school and such, and I figured I sort of needed a break from the forum. But, now that school has mellowed out a little bit, I have time to post.

Anyway...here is a sweater that was basically a closet orphan for some time. It used to be a very unflattering length, so I decided to hem it up a couple inches. Is this a good look or no?

FYI: I happened to be wearing a blue cami when I took this photo, but I'd actually wear it with a white one.

Also, just thought I'd mention - it's a possible Christmas or Christmas Eve outfit. I'm breaking out from my typical santa and reindeer sweater... Ok, just kidding! Don't go into apoplexy, angie!

I think it's cute. Not sure about the bow. I think an actual belt, maybe with a bow detail would be better. ALthough there is something endearing about it. Hm, I can't make up my mind...

But the sweater itself is cute, and I think it has a nice snowy white fluffy feel to it.

I like it! I think it would have been fine if it were longer, but you're a better judge of course. How did you hem it?

I'm no expert on sweater lengths so can't comment on that. But I do like the way the patterns in the knit create vertical lines down the front.

p.s. i have the same ikea shoe rack

Also wondering how you shortened it?

I like it with the bow, for your age and for a festive occasion. I have noticed the Gap is showing tons of sweaters with satin bows similar to this look. Did the sweater come with the bow, or did you think to add that touch yourself?

Hey Shell! I think the sweater is really pretty, actually. I like Maya's idea of trying a more structured belt. I picked up a fabulous wide patent belt at Target the other day. They have faux snakeskin and solid black with the three small buckles. It's not too wide, though.

So glad you are back, Shell! I really like the sweater -- definitely a keeper. I think the bow is festive as a Christmas outfit. and you can wear a "regular" belt with it at other times. Good job hemming a sweater -- that's tricky.

I like it because skinny belts get lost on me, and super wide belts are not comfortable.

I think it's a very nice sweater and would be a warm but festive holiday sweater. I too am interested to know how you hemmed it. I'm impressed.

Sarah, I love that belt! I may just have to invest some xmas money in one

as for the hemming...I basically just used a similar color thread and sewed it with a basic stitch. the band at the bottom was twice as long as it is now, so i just folded it in half, matched up the vertical lines knitted into the sweater, pinned it, and went to town on the sewing machine. it's probably not the "best" way to hem a sweater, but it's virtually undetectable so I guess it works.
