Shannon final "Going out" outfit 8/12

Well, here is what I ended up wearing out last night. I wish I would have taken a picture before I was walking out the door, because I did not like it! Blah! I don't know if I will try the vest/tank thing again. I just feel like my shoulders are too narrow to pull this off. I did get compliments on my arms though, so I felt good about that. What do you guys think of my final outfit? Thanks for your help choosing!

Hey Shannon,

I'm by no means an expert but to my eye, it looks great. Very smart but not too dressy. I like it on you a lot-- and I don't see the narrow shoulders thing. You look very nice!

Is that a flower in your hair? I love it.

Would you be able to have vest altered to be narrower at the shoulders? I love the concept of the outfit, however I think it shows in the photo that you are not 100% sure.

I think you look great! I'm not an expert either, but to my eye the vest works well. I really like the headband too! Good combo of androgynous and feminine.

For starters your hair and headband look fantastic! I love the way the ends of your hair whisp out and the head band looks so pretty and retro.
I love the stripes in the vest. I love the shoes. I feel the skirt is a casual light distressed wash and would much prefer a different skirt even maybe a skirt that was not denim, something more feminine to counter the mens wear vest. That being said you do not look bad by any means. You are beautiful with a killer bod and look good in everything. I'm sure everyone thought you looked drop dead gorgeous when you went out.

Having the vest altered, or finding another vest that has a narrower shoulder is a great idea. I think that would make your shoulders appear wider, balencing out your proportions. Maybe also try a vest that is a little more cropped. I think this would lengthen you out a little more.

Shannon, you look great. That pink works well. About the waistcoat and the shoulders, note Ana's question in her blog comment and Angie's response further down. It might be that, instead of making the waistcoat narrower at the shoulder, you could wear a top under it that is wider at the shoulder than the waistcoat so that the edge shows from under the vest. That might be enough to broaden the shoulder line (although I think you look fine as it is).

Wish you would have smiled too because I am guessing you have a great smile. Agree with all above, love the flower in your hair. My thought is perhaps a diff. jean skirt either in a darker wash and/or without the slit in front. For some reason I think its the skirt more than the vest but I am in no way an expert. Will be anxious to see what others suggest.

Shannon, I think you look good! I do think that if the vest had slightly narrower shoulder straps it could look better, but it's not by any means a disaster. Your expression doesn't look very confident, though - if you don't feel good about the outfit, maybe put it on hold for now?

Shannon - you're much too hard on yourself! The tank/vest combination looks just fine, though as Joy noted, you could easily get around it by putting a close-fitting, cap-sleeve tee underneath instead of a tank. Something like this: http://www.anntaylor.com/catal.....ory=Misses

Also, I agree with 50&S that a front-slit skirt is not the most flattering look - on anyone. The placement of the slit makes it hard to walk gracefully and sit without flashing. I would look for a skirt with a back slit.

Definitely don't give up on this look, though (vest with skirt); you can absolutely make it work!

Wow Shannon, I think you look great!! Such an interesting combination of pieces. I do think a more brightly coloured tank would give it a bit of a pop, but I really like what you have put together there already!!!

I might not have this vest altered (it's just not worth it to me) but I will look for some that are more narrow across the shoulders and maybe try this look again.

Most of you thought the skirt was too casual. I can see that. It is True Religion (got it on super sale :)) and you know how casual and distressed that brand is. Guess I'll keep the skirt paired with more casual items.

That was a flower in my hair! I love wearing them. It kinda takes the place of jewelry that I don't wear too much of. Plus I feel my hair is always a mess on humid days, so the headbands help.

LOL! You guys said I should be smiling. I usually would be, but I had my husband take the picture and I could only stand there for so long with a smile on my face. He has trouble with the camera. I actually wasn't unhappy with my outfit until after the picture was taken. Sure makes a difference in how you see yourself.
