Senior recital dress and accessories

In another post I talked about a gown I ordered from Spiegel for my senior recital coming up in April. It’s a red sleeveless, floor length formal with asymmetrical gathering at the waist and top. I’ve wanted a red gown for so long, so I’m thrilled to have it. I really wanted to post a picture of me in it, but my photobucket account is being messed up and won’t upload pictures. Now I have a question, how should I accessorize the dress? I’ve bought a pair of shoes that matches it perfectly, but what kind of jewelry should I wear? I’ve experimented with it some and will post pictures as soon as photobucket will let me upload again.

Hi Sarah,

That dress is really pretty. I would wear some nice dangly earrings and carry a clutch. I am all for keeping it simple and elegant.

The model is not wearing anything around her neck...I think that's a good indication of how best to wear it. The neckline is very detailed, so I'd be afraid anything around your neck would detract from the dress.

It's a lovely dress Sarah. Are you going to wear your hair up or down? Marianna and Nicole have made super suggestions. A pair of great long earnings will finish the look off perfectly. What are you reciting?

I guess I should explain what a senior recital is. Living in the music-major world I just assume everyone knows. A senior recital is the culmination of my degree in “Vocal Performance and Pedagogy” (pedagogy is the art of teaching). My senior recital is where I get up on stage and sing for about an hour. I'm doing all kinds of music from Bach to Broadway.

Because I'll be on stage, I can't really carry a clutch, at least not on the stage with me. I do think the suggestions about the earrings are great though. I hadn't noticed that the model isn't wearing a necklace, but you ladies made a great point. I will probably wear my hair down. I'm not sure yet. And I know I need to get it cut since my hair comes half way down my back, and that just doesn't look modern enough for this dress.

Oh, and one more thing, my teacher and I have decided to move the recital to September. Will red still be a good color this fall? I certainly hope so because I adore the dress and I paid too much for it to not wear it.

Photobucket seems to me working again, so here is a picture of me in the dress and the jewelry I've tried with it so far. Like I said before, I didn't notice that the model wasn't wearing a necklace, so I tried it with a small necklace and earring set. I'm not sure if I'll use them for the recital. I also wore long white gloves. I like them, but do they look too old fashion? What do you all think?

I think the gloves look elegant somehow...very 1950's. But I'm a sucker for that kind of theme.

I think the earrings AND necklace are too much. I vote for the earrings so you can keep the neckline clean.

The dress looks good though. You're so lucky that you can wear that knot detail around your hips! I'm so envious.

That is beauiful! I don't mind the necklace at all. I'd have to see the dress on w/out the necklace to decide which I like better.

You look really great in that dress! I don't like the gloves though, I find them distracting. I would like to see the dress with just the earrings.

You look wonderful Sarah. Bravo! I like the gloves and feel that you will get away with this look. It’s theatrical and a great statement. Your hair down in fab and my preference is without the necklace. The gloves are enough. A cocktail ring over a finger in the gloves is another idea - “material girl style”. Good luck!
