Talk of accessories reminded me that I have meant to post my method of scarf storage. I have a rather large collection as many of you know. I keep them in an over the door shoe container with clear containers, and then I fold them neatly and put them in the pouches. I do not always pair similar colors together because that is a good way to misplace or forget about a particular scarf. I do tend to pair winter and summer scarves together. I keep silk square scarves folded and flat on the shelves beneath my hanging clothes. There is also room for a hook on my door for my robes - my Ugg fleece robe for cold weather, and a lighter weight print robe for warm days.

Great solution! The back of my closet door is overwhelmed with belts (where do you store your belts?), so I fold my scarves in shoe boxes in a built-in closet drawer.

PS...love your Summer bathrobe! Source??

I also store most of my scarves in clear plastic shoe boxes by color. These boxes are stacked on s shelf under my hanging clothes. Heavy winter scarves are stored with the coats.

My current system, through a lot of trial and error, is to drape them carefully over a flocked hanger - maybe 4 or 5 scarves to a hanger. I then hang the hangers (4 or 5) on a hook on my closet door. I fold bigger ones , and those that aren't as apt to wrinkle. Those sit wherever i can find room for them. (drawer, shelf, bin) Staysfit - don't you have problems with wrinkling with your method? Or do you iron them each time? I keep my heavier winter scarves put away - and pretty much replicate the system for the change of seasons. Having them draped and visible reminds me of what they each look like too.....

I have lots, (lots!) of scarves, mostly 36" squares. I have one drawer with navy ground scarves, and one with black ground ones. At the change of season, I go through them and put away the ones I know I won't wear in that season. I keep all the smaller squares together because I don't have as many. I have very few oblong or rayon type scarves, they go all together in the drawer with the smaller squares. I love scarves and wear one almost every day. Some of mine are 20-25 years old, and I may not wear a particular one for a year or two, but then it will be just right and I'll wear it all season. Some of mine came in lovely flat square boxes and that's how I keep them. They really are works of art! But the secret to wearing them and loving them is to not make them too precious. You aren't going to be able to show the whole design once it's tied, so don't try. And unless you use a scarf ring, you need to tie a secure knot. It won't hurt the scarf, especially if it's substantial silk!

I have them in two drawers currently. The winter ones are in with sweaters, as I am short of sweaters and there was plenty of room! True winter ones will get packed away in a couple of months.

Summer and silk ones share a drawer with evening clutches.

Oh! And winter scarves, mufflers, ...I fold them over the bar of a hanger or the bar of the hanger of the coat that they go with. And off season, they go in a tote with cedar blocks, for moth proofing.

Retailgirl, you reminded me that I keep my scarf rings in one of the clear plastic pockets. It may be hard to see them, but they are there in the picture.

I also have some beautiful silk squares. I keep those in the original boxes stored flat and stacked on the shelf under my hanging garments in the closet. I have a smallish collection of them, but what I have are definitely several years old, and very cherished.

Lisap, I don't have serious problems with wrinkling. They are loosely folded. I also try to pack them loosely in the pockets. If there are any minor wrinkles, I have a steamer in my laundry room. It only takes a minute or two to take care of any issues.

Carter, I have a hanger that has four hoops that open and I store my belts on the hoops. One hoop is for white, gray and silver belts, one is for cognac belts, one is for non-neutral colors, and one is for dark neutrals like navy, black and dark brown. My summer robe is by Natori.

For awhile, I had them on thick plastic shower curtain rings over the bar of a hanger. Now what I do is drape them, loosely folded, over a flocked
hanger's bar. I try to keep them roughly to a color scheme and I often use this method to figure out whether I want to purge something as not working out for me. A weird method, I know, but if something doesn't go with any scarf - and I have a half dozen hangers of just the lighter weight non-winter scarves - then it likely explains why it's an orphan. Depending on season, some of my silkier scarves are worn with jackets or lightweight coats and some of my outdoor scarves are worn in an indoor manner over regular clothes. So I also check for orphan status against the cool weather scarves. My palette seems to vary quite a bit between cold and hot weather, too, especially in clarity of effect. Although I *could* wear rich earthy colors in summer, I tend not to, unless it's because I'm not finding the correct weight or style - when we have a heat wave, I want wovens that are not grabbing me anywhere, like at a waist.

I keep winter scarves loosely folded on the shelves of a small bookcase.
I keep some winter hats there and also a small plastic bin of gloves.
I have quite a lot of winter accessories plus many of them can be quite bulky, if more dramatic.

I hang belts and also necklaces off the pegs of a multiple tie/belt hanger.
I'm not likely to put back accessories unless I can do it quickly and mindlessly so that's the kind of system I look for.

I don't have a lot of scarves, but plan to be getting more, so should really come up with a system.

I have a fairly delicate, gauzy scarf that I keep by itself in a plastic bag because I don't know how else to store it so it won't catch on things. Would rather not do this with all my scarves though, since that'd take up a lot of space.Your reply

Robin, I might keep a single gauzy scarf rolled and in some sort of protective container. I would probably find a small box. Then I would store it with my socks because there is nothing in that drawer to snag it.

I have wood shelving in my closet. I fold the scarfs and place them on a shelf. I only own three scarfs because I find them fussy.

Scarves are a weak point for me. I have way more than I need. I keep most of mine on a ring hanger that holds nine of them (pic #1), but I have overflow that I store looped around the crossbar of suit hangers (pic #2). I actually rather like this backup method. It keeps everything visible.

I keep mine in two pretty boxes easily accessible on my top closet shelves. I've separated them by s/s and f/w seasons. I switch whichever season it is to the lower shelf. Sometimes there's crossover but there right there. Winter outerwear scarves are in their own box with gloves and hats. After looking at Carter's neat folds I think I might try that instead of loosely rolling them.

I have a double towel rod on the closet wall that I tie the scarves onto. I don't have a picture but will try to get one tonight when I get home.

I keep mine on the top shelve of my wardrobe inside this dividers.
I find that it is the easiest way for me to see them.

I keep mine on this ikea hanger like this photo (not mine).
I haven't worn a single scarf this season but cannot purge them. I rotate in 2 seasons approximately. This rack hangs on the back of the closet door but you can also hang it on the clothing rod.

I've got mine on an Ikea hanger as well, just like the one Glory linked to. BB&B also sells that sort of thing but I like the Ikea one because it's covered in some sort of crocheted-esque yarn which grabs the scarf better than plastic or metal and keeps it from sliding off. It works pretty well for me as all my scarves are long and usually cotton or rayon, not silk, so I don't have any small ones that might slip off it. I just hang it in my closet. My few winter scarves that I wear with coats are in the coat closet (plastic bin in the warm months, brought out and kept with coats when in use).

Some great ideas! I use 2 of the scarf hangers from ikea with 1/2 spring and 1/2 winter scarves and then turn them around for each season. You can't see the scarves hanging toward the back so that's where the off seAson scarves are. This seems to work well for me but I see some other fantastic ideas that I wouldn't mind trying!

My method for storing scarves is the same as Jenn's. I do have a very gauzy scarf that I keep in a clear plastic packet along with a dressy black stole with beads (also stored in a packet)

For belts, I now use clear plastic containers. Earlier, I had them rolled and stashed into a drawer, but realised that the ones that went into the bottom got forgotten. I've separated them out as - skinny, regular width and broad belts - stored into different boxes. So now I only have to look in the right box, because I usually know what width of belt I'm going to wear with any outfit.

I have a custom made solution for long scarves. A few years back, I've asked my DH to build me a....wall ladder. He did! it is on the wall on the stair landing to our basement, conveniently close to our entrance door.I hang my long scarves on it, change it from season to season. i like to look at them but can shut the door when we have company My silks I keep in an old ikea box, loosely folded , on a shelf in our "entrance " closet. I love my scarves a bit too much, hence the close ups
