We put our kitty to sleep this afternoon.

The vet called at 10 this morning and told us the disease had punctured and collapsed one of kitty's lungs. They were pretty sure it was cancer, but we declined further tests as he was not ever getting better. Knowing it was cancer would only cause him more pain and stress for the tests without hope of getting better. And we were pretty sure a collapsed lung had to be painful.

He depended on special oxygen to breathe, so we never got to bring him home.

I had him for 14 years, and he was my kitty before I knew DH. But he fell in love with DH and became his cat. DH held him as he purred, so at least he was with us and knew he was loved at the end.

We still have to figure out what to tell DD.
