(Rhymes with) Bipples

Sorry for the strange title but I was wondering what everyone does when their nipples are visible under a garment. I don't mean a see-thru garment. Is this something that is offensive to others or am I just being self conscious. It doesn't bother me when I see it on others but it bothers me in my own outfit.

I wear T shirt bras to prevent that problem.

Easiest solution: not to care.

Second-easiest solution: bra with moulded cups.

1960s solution (employed by my mother and her friends in their youth): Band-aids.

Eh, it happens sometimes and it doesn't bother me. If I see it, the most I'm likely to think is, "oh it must be cold in here." Most of the time I don't even notice.

It doesn't bother me on myself or others, but it does seem like maybe it's a trend of marketing lately? I was recently browsing a new clothing line and holy moly! Every outfit featured extremely prominent nipples. It was distracting.

I wear lightly padded bras to avoid that. I'm not offended by it, I just don't want to advertise my nipples. I work in a male dominated field and I don't want to draw unnecessary attention to my chest.

I'm self conscious about this ever since a comment from a rude stranger many years ago. So, t-shirt bras for me, even though hubs hates them.

Yep, lined bras help that. It isn't offensive, just a little embarrassing maybe. I find it strange to sometimes see store mannequins with them...

I have a range of bras and try to fit the right one to the right use, ie a slightly thicker one for a thin light weight top, saving the lacy or sheerer ones for thicker tops. In the spring I often wear a cami for warmth which helps too.

I don't worry about it at all - even with padding sometimes they can show. It's natural and doesn't bother me one bit.

I wonder if those of us who are more endowed might be more self-conscious about this than smaller-busted ladies. After all, there are already enough times we feel like we need signs that say, "my eyes are up here, buddy." Having the headlights on only makes it worse.

I've always been really self conscious about this, but have become even more so as I get older. Lined tee shirt bras, make me look matronly, so I use Commando low beams under my regular bras.

T shirt bras. DH hates them.

I've honestly never heard of a t-shirt bra. There are many bra styles that are not available to well-endowed women like me, I wonder if this is one of those styles. I will check it out. In general I avoid bras that are too thickly lined because they make my best appear larger. I will check out the commandos.

This never bothered me when I was younger, this is a recent addition to my list of things to be self conscious of.

It really bothers me on me, but not so much on others, although I admit that I think it distracts from the way that fabrics drape. I too wear t-shirt bras to take care of the problem. Typically they don't add to much bulk, they are just very firmly shaped. However, for zero bulk (or for those who go braless, but want coverage), these are great. They aren't as comfortable as nothing, but they are great coverage when you want to be sure nothing shows through (like a business meeting in arctic ac).

I have a small bust and do not mind. This might sound funny, but I like to view it as a women's rights issue. (Sorry to get all political, but I guess it is the time for that, ha ha.) The nipple is a normal part of our anatomy, and I wish that our culture didn't make it shameful for us to show the outline of a nipple under clothing. No one gets upset if a guy's nipple pokes up through clothing. So I view it as my contribution to women's lib if I have a nipple poke, ha ha.

They used to get upset about bare male chests. You could be arrested for indecent exposure. And undershirts were de rigeur. Those were the days. I miss Victorian standards. Hehe.

I agree that lined bras are the answer. I was always taught that "pointing is rude", so I always wear a lined bra in public. Then again, I am a person who doesn't enjoy seeing underarm hair, either (on men OR women). It just seems private, like seeing pubic hair, to me; visible nipples fall into the same category. And while men can go without shirts in some situations, I very strongly believe that men should wear undershirts with dress clothes to avoid this same issue (and others).

I guess I'll go Victorian with Rachy.

This is pretty much the only reason I wear a bra. I'm a small cup size, so it's not really for the support. It doesn't bother me on others though, so I need to get over it.

My nipples show pretty much all the time, cold or not. In a thick padded bra, they're still visible. Even in the bras specifically designed to hide nipples, they show. And, I work in the construction industry - it's distracting to people around me even if I can ignore it.

So I wear these anytime I'm going out (in the find). And they're fabulous. I wash with soapy water every now and then, and wear them several times a week.

Hmm, what bothers me is treating a normal body bump as something shameful. If it makes a woman feel better to smooth away a bump, that is her right, but I think it's wrong to impose a personal preference on others.

I remember a time when pregnant female teachers were expected to wear tent-like clothing because looking pregnant in a classroom disturbed some people. And it wasn't that long ago when a flattening, minimizing bra was deemed a necessity for a large bust and a tight girdle was a requirement for anyone with rounded derrière. That kind of thinking is more offensive to me than a tiny bulge on a woman's chest.

Seems to me there are some women who just can't "smooth away" their nipples, no matter how padded the bra. For this reason alone we should learn not to think of visible nipples as "distracting". They just are what they are. News flash: women have nipples!

Janet, I know what you're saying. (Nice imagery, btw, lol). I'm already aware of my boobage, and if I had prominent nipples, I'd probably try to conceal them. Or maybe I wouldn't. I really don't like the feel of padded bras. And I'm not opposed to the idea of nipples being visible. But as it is, mine never show through clothes (unless it's below freezing), even in the thinnest, stretchiest bras.

BA, I agree with you on the topic of lined bras. In my case, most of my tissue is on the sides, so I look wider and am less supported when I wear mounded cup bras. I find they don't fit as well as cut &sewn, so I feel the wire dig into my rib cage. Even with tee shirts I wear my favourite lace bras--I don't mind the lace bumping through the fabric over the silicone nipple covers, but I'm on team Rachy when it comes to modesty. For me, it has nothing to do with feminism: When I'm at work, I need to look professional for the parents and families I serve. It's no different than if Aiden Turner (aka Poldark) were mowing the grounds shirtless outside the window of my meeting--it takes one's mind off the task at hand.

As a feminist I wholeheartedly agree that nipples should not be a big deal and women should not have to worry about their nipples offending. And that's not what I worry about. The truth is that having large breasts attracts alot of negative attention from men. Even the most conservative well behaved gentlemen for some reason can look at women in a very lewd manner. There are many times, on the train, on the street, even in an office where I feel the attention is on my breasts in an uncomfortable manner. So we are caught between a rock and hard place (haha) in real life. Do I demurely cover up or do I let the girls stand in all their glory? Doing so puts me in many awkward and uncomfortable situations. Seriously, what is wrong with men?
