It looks like your upper body is visually bigger than your lower half. I would try to switch and wear a darker top or the same intensity as the bottom - it should give you a nice slimming effect.
This is a fine capelet for a boho look!

thanks Sveta. I actually chnaged into a black knit top and it does look a lot better. My hubby just went to yoga class and I cannot fathom how to take my own pics so will post later ths evening.

Looks great with the black tank and metallic/nude shoes! I think the white tank in the first photo would also look cute with a lighter skirt/shorts. Fun shrug! I don't see this as a very RATE look, I'm curious what makes you think so?

It's tough to do volume with volume... I would probably do something slimmer and/or more structured on top or bottom.

hi guys. thanks for all your insightful replies. I think RATE to me is less edgy than that my style still needs so much styling! Modgrl yes I have done this shrug/capelet with skinny jeans in the pst and it did work well. I was just trying to bring this shrug/capelet back into use as I'm always sort of intimidated on how to style it.

Sona, that skirt is gorgeous! I do like it better with the black top. I agree with Modgrl and think that a slimmer bottom layer ie skinny jeans or pencil skirt would look great too. You wear colour really well. I find this to be a more contemporary and youthful look than the first WIW with the black and white. I think colour is definitely your friend :). You look fab.

I think that sweater would look amazing with a denim skirt as a change from jeans. This outfit looks great with the black, or you could substitute a top in one of the bright colors in the shrug too. Or a yellow!
