Thank you Aubergine. You're very very sweet!

I am still adjusting to the knowledge that I'm a Winter. I am kinda worrying about my winter wardrobe here! I love the brown Zara coat pictured above and my leather jacket also happens to be brown! I can't imagine giving either of them up....and I'm really hoping that a deep, dark scarf around my neck will be the answer to my woes.

I think you're allowed a few exceptions to the "wear only flattering colours" rule, especially if you love the jackets.

Phew! That does make me feel exponentially better, Alasse. Thank you!

The leather jacket is extremely special to me...it has a very sweet and very embarrassing story attached to it and I really love it.

Maneera, I am a winter too and have a few deep brown items that work very well. Brown is like red and the undertone can make it great or not so great. The color of the wall behind you in the coat pics would look great on you as would cobalt blue.

Thanks Cheryl. The wall is purple-lavender, I think. I do love cobalt blue.

My leather jacket would work coz it's a dark brown (like the boots in the picture where I'm wearing the coat). However, the coat itself is quite a dull, muddy brown. I'll need all the experimentation in the world to make it work now....especially coz I'll be worrying about putting a 'good' winter color near my face. The coat is badly crumpled in the pic coz it came out of storage at the time as it wasn't quite winter yet when I clicked the photo, but it does have a lovely cut and fall once it's dry cleaned and ironed. I swear!

Ooh nice thread!

I tentatively self-diagnosed a little while ago as Bright Winter and have been testing the hypothesis ever since. I'm still not dressing strictly to the palette but I think I look better when I do.

I'm sure you've already discovered what a great resource 12 Blueprints is. I found this rundown on The Most Important Thing very useful and I'm experimenting with colours outside the palette based on brightness/contrast. I also really liked this analysis of how the colour palettes relate to each other. It gave me some ideas of how to colour outside the lines, so to speak.

From the pictures and the comments, deep Winter seems to be a good starting point for you. I wouldn't ditch colours you love outside the palette, but maybe think about how they mesh with your Most Important Thing, which would be deep.

Incidentally, I'm a lover of prints, plaids and all things multicoloured. Since researching this I've started to notice how few fabrics play to a single colour palette. Many of them stray all over the map, which is yet another challenge.

Thanks Approprio. I'm still trying to grasp the concept of colors but TMIT looks like an interesting read.
