Quality Check - Gap vs. Zara? Trench Coat!

So, a navy or a red trench coat was on my "to get" things this year list and I think I have two contenders. I have ordered both and they're on their merry little way to my house in the post right now ...

... but I thought I'd check in with the wide knowledge of YLF to see if anyone has had long-term experience with either coat? The prices are essentially the same to me, so that's not really a factor...

Gap Classic Trench - $139, now $99; additional 30% off and I got an additional 7% back from eBates ~ $70 or so.

Love the flippy collar and the pocket flap details; can't tell if the linings are pretty or not, but I suppose that's not one of the key reasons why I'm buying a jacket.

Zara Flowing Trench Coat - $99, now $79; no additional discounts.

Oh, the lining is so pretty, and it looks so flowing on the model. I'm not sure if I like the coat or I like the way it looks on the model. Look how awesome I am in my coat I am a Zara model.... (giggle!)

Ok, so I haven't actually seen either and have no experience of quality, but personally I would go for the gap one. For two reasons:
1) the Zara looks like the only closure is the belt. A coat should close securely, plus it looks nice and flowing when open but I always think coats that only tie closed look like bathrobes when closed.
2) cotton vs poly.

Also, poppy collar. Poppy collars are the best on trenches.

You'll have to let us know what you find out about both. I'm leaning towards the Gap one for the the same reasons Diana says.

I have the gap coat and I am really happy with it. the coat is well made inside out and has a great details. the lining is a 100% cotton and very pretty navy with tiny white polka dots (only the sleeves have the light blue polyester lining). I didn't see Zara coat so I cannot comment on it but I recommend the gap coat as so far it wears very well.

You really need to try them both on to assess fit and aesthetics.

If you will be wearing the coat to protect you from rain and there is any wind at all, you may not want one that merely wraps and does not securely fasten with buttons or zipper. . . .

What Angie said. Only way you will know is by trying. My guess is that you will prefer the GAP. But who knows? You already have that gorgeous Burberry, so you might not feel the GAP one compares well, and might prefer a style that was different.

I prefer Gap. It looks more trench-y, more timeless, has buttons, closes well around the collar and is prettier in general.
