Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Pre YLF sweater...thoughts?

This is a sweater I had prior to YLF and am wondering if I can do anything with it?

Any thoughts or suggestions? CRS is fine. Thanks!

Dani, I like it. The shape and color both look good. I like it buttoned in the middle better and adding a scarf to it you'll be ready for Fall!

Hmmmm....i wonder how it would look belted? Or with a belted shirt under the sweater?

It looks like a nice cozy sweater for a cold winter day--or as a jacket option on a crisp fall day.

It's such a neutral color, I'd like to see the shirt under it have some brightness to it--but I can't think of any color that wouldn't work. Red, Orange, Sky Blue, uhhh okay maybe not yellow.

Maybe you could change the buttons to something really colorful and whimsical??

Do the sleeves seem short to you? I like it buttoned in the middle too. How is that colour against your face?

Interesting question about the sleeve length Angie. I have never paid much attention to it but I noticed that you have asked this question a couple of times. What should be a good length for long sleeve sweaters, shirts and jackets?

I think the sleeves are a *little* too short. The color is actually nice on me, surprisingly. I will try the suggestions made here (belted tops underneath and brighter colored tops) and see if I can improve the look...or does the sleeve length relegate it to the "to be donated" pile?

Julia, I like the keep sleeve length to at least the base of my palm so I don't feel like my wrists are constantly exposed if I move my arms. I don't know if there's a specific rule but that's my guideline anyway :)

I like it. It's got some interesting detail. I would try just one button - the one at the waist. Not two. And take this out shopping with you and try on a bunch of ruffly blouses underneath. Some ruffles at the neckline could punch it up. (Okay so I'm on a ruffle jag lately....). Or a blousy silky tie-neck style, if you're not into ruffles.

If you think the sleeves are too short (I have no idea - being short, I always have the exact opposite problem!!!) maybe a long sleeve shirt that has cuffs that peak out?

Have you tried putting a classic collared shirt underneath this? I'm wondering... it might work, if you only buttoned at the waist.

The black buttons make it seem like black pants are the obvious choice.... but what about (just thinking out loud here) a microcheck in a brown with some black, and then some black shoes to tie in with the buttons?

I may be way off but something like this might be interesting to try with it:

I like Shiny's suggestion of a punchy top, or sleeves that poke out of the cardi. I think the sweater is okay--you could definitely do a lot with it. I think it does need some jazzing up. :)

Long sleeves should cover your wrists. Bracelet length sleeves should finish 2-3 inches above your wrist bone. I personally like long sleeves to meet the first boned knuckle of your thumb side (you have three knuckles on that side). That way your sleeves look long enough when you move your arms about.

Thanks Angie for the explanation, that makes perfect sense. Lucky for me being a petite, my long sleeves are always too long and can be altered easily.

The sweater itself is fine, but the color is blah to me. I'd def. wear it w/ a bright color underneath.
