thank you, everyone. I am in such shock and immense pain as yesterday was a mix of fun memories mixed with the toxic ones ,which thank goodness fell away today. Spent time in her condo today which was so difficult as the similarities between us are everywhere. We were so close for so long and the pain I feel is more immense than any in my lifetime, which is saying a lot as my father passed when I was just 13. I can't even eat and sleeping last night was difficult. We are keeping this offline in public right now as my 14 yr old niece is out of town and my brother wants to break it to her tomorrow in person. Gratefully the message has gone out to everyone who is honoring that request. I am glad my brothers and I all agree on how to handle things and they agreed to my less formal idea of a memorial service where we invite any and all to share a story with a prayer at the beginning and the end. Her huge circle of friends is reeling and her company in Ontario wants notice to be present. The outpouring of love is there, but we are holding it at bay and hibernating a bit as we let the reality settle. Thanks for this private space for me to just get this off my chest.

And everything is so hard when the relationship was challenging, it seems much more complicated. Especially when there were also good times. I am sorry you are in such pain.

When you have an early loss, such as the way too early loss of your father, the grief from new loss can trigger an even deeper and more pervasive sense of loss when a new loss happens. I know my friend went to therapy for the first time after a similar sequence of events.

The format of the memorial sounds lovely.

Figure out if everything that seems urgent really is. And take good care of yourself.

The picture of the two of you is lovely. Sibling relationships can be so complicated. I'm reaching out to my sister this morning because we are having a rough spot in the aftermath of the election. Please be kind to yourself. I had feelings of regret after each of my parents passed ("why didn't I reach out more?") but we can't go back, only forward.
