Hi all,

I thought I would tap into the wellspring of animal love here to ask for some positive thoughts for our dog, Koda. I am in Chicago for work for the next couple of days and DH is home tending to him and trying to sort out what's going on. But before I left for this trip he started showing signs of weakness/paralysis on one side, and when I took him for a walk yesterday morning, he stopped midway and I had to carry him. Apparently there are several potential causes including a disc issue and serious neurological issues (some of you may know more about this kind of thing than I do?). Koda is really a sweetheart, the naughty younger brother of our two dogs, and I am struggling a bit with not being home, and also struggling with some of the questions we may have before us depending on what's going on, costs, prognosis, etc. Anyway, just some positive thoughts please.

Thanks,
Vivian

Wed pm ETA: I am back home, and Koda ran wobbily to greet me! He is definitely responding to the medication, but if he is still having this much trouble tomorrow I am going to get him into the neurologist, as the vet did not really have an answer for us. Tex, thanks for the B12 recommendation, and Karie, thanks for mentioning Lyme. One of my friends had a similar situation with her dog that it was Lyme, so I am curious. I'll keep you all posted - I do appreciate the continuing support so much. xx

8/30 ETA: Koda is much, much better. He is about 90% himself, and the vet feels this last 10% may take a while to return or frankly, may not return; we will have to see. He has some back leg/hip weakness -- if he sits for a bit his back legs will begin to slide out. And he is much less inclined to try to jump. My main job right now is to limit his activity, which is challenging. We don't know what caused this -- after he has been on medication for several days it is difficult for them to test for anything, because all of the symptoms have subsided so much. The vet feels the most likely culprit is a tick (could be Lyme but also could be a more generic tick paralysis). So we are just happy he is doing so well and hopeful he'll regain this last 10%. But even if not, he's so much better that we'll take this. Thanks for all your good thoughts. xxxx
