Carter, my favourite of all is #8 (or #4 from photo 2). WOW! Does this just show how much silhouette variety matters to me? I wonder. Anyway, you're gorgeous in all, but that's a standout. I also love #2 from 1 and all white jeans!

Style Fan, those flares were made for you! Love #2 and #3 as well, and also (of course!) 5.

Tracey, you are vying with Ms. Mary for Queen of Colour. Love #5 along with your two favourites the best!

Celia, you are gorgeous in all but my faves are #4 (that hat!!), #6, and #8. I would also have loved to see more of your trip outfits here and also that big gorgeous scarf with hat.

I love seeing everyone's outfits! I did a terrible job taking photos this year. Two big successes were putting together an essentials capsule and finding a dress to wear to a friend's wedding that fit the venue, was long enough and wasn't black!

Mirjana, lucky us to see your amazing style this year! My favourites are 1, 2, 5, 8, and 9. Just splendid on you!

Meredith, you looked gorgeous in that dress!! Take more photos this year, please!

Nancy, off to look. ETA -- wow, your style was amazing this year!! Love the way the curls played with your new florals. So, so pretty. Love all this with the jackets as well. What a tragedy about the one lost.

Thanks Suz so sweet of you.

Ha Suz, I almost picked that dress from the cruise but didn't because I haven't worn it since then. Not because I don't like it or anything but because I haven't had an occasion. I'm not sure why that matters to me. It's like the dress doesn't deserve to be on the list if I've only worn it once.

I've decided it has something to do with my hair. My hair is different now - lighter and slightly longer and I find it off putting to look at old photos because they don't look like me. I might be better off cropping my head from the photos so I focus on the outfit and not how good or bad I look.3

Meredith - That dress is beautiful on you!

I flipped back through everyone's photos to pick my favorites. So hard to narrow it down. Here's my best shot:

Angie, 1/2. 4 and 6 are fabulously appealing to me. The "pretty" suits you so well.
Tanya, you are so good at this. If I have to narrow it down, I'll say 2 and 7 are my top picks.
JAileen, everytime I see the butterfly dresses on you I love them more. I'm picking 3, 4, and 5 as my faves.
Suz, #1 is just insane. Drop dead stunning. #4 is my other fave.
Bonnie, great looks! I choose 1, 7, 8 and 10 as my favorites.
Ms Mary, such fun and happy pics! Faves are 2 and 4.
Sara, I love so many of these. I'm picking 3, 7, 8, and 9.
Harmonica, 2, 3 are my top choices of yours.
Carla, 1, 3, and 6 are my faves. I would happily wear any of those!
Diane, another pro. Very difficult to pick faves, but I'm going with 1, 2, 4 and 12.
Celia, top picks are 2, 4, 7 and 8. You are so cute!
TracyLiz, your outfits are always so fab. I'm choosing 1, 9 and 10 as my top picks.
StyleFan, 3, 5 and 6 look so effortlessly chic.
Mirjana, I had a very hard time picking favorites. I finally narrowed it down to 1, 2, 4 and 9.
Hope I didn't miss anyone!

Thank you very much Carter.

Fun to look at all these. will go thru again this PM when I have more time. I only have 2 theis year -1 love the pearl choker with denim shirt last spring-and the red shoes for the Christmas party.

Well that was an interesting exercise! I will go back and read through everyone's posts now - and see if others 'discovered ' some of the same things I did. I don't keep pictures I've taken of myself in a folder and had none saved (like Nancy) , so I"ve had to take these from the few posts I did in 2016 and drop them on to my desktop...which i know may make them too small.

Anyways - the exercise pointed out a few things:

1. I do miss participating in WIW's and on the forum in general.
2. I looked a hell of a lot better in early 2016 than I do now, and I have to get to the bottom of that. I liked my hair better, liked my makeup better, and liked most of the outfits I wore in the early months of the year - most of which probably don't fit anymore, which is sad.
3. most , if not all , of the outfits I put on WIW I never wore again. All of them were sort of experiments, but not comfortable fall-backs. In fact, I got rid of one of the jackets after wearing it only once. What is up with this behaviour? Some of the outfits I have totally forgotten about and wish I had pulled them out again and wore them earlier this winter ! Again - wtf?
4. Taking outfit photos can be a good thing. As much as I nearly die everytime I look in the mirror now and avoid mirrors as much as possible , maybe keeping up with the dressing up and accessorizing and picture -taking keeps one on their toes.

Here are some looks that I can look at pretty objectively now (because they seem so far in the past and I don't recall how I FELT in them - which can skew one's view . I am inspired to look at numbers 3 and 4 and see if they still fit and can be worn on an upcoming work trip (specifically the skirted leggings and grey sweater one - I totally forgot I have this sweater) .

ETA: Sorry my pictures are too small. Nothing I could do about that

I flipped back through my last few blog posts, found a favorite outfit... and then realized it was from December 2015! Apparently I've only posted a dozen or so times this calendar year, and only a few outfit photos. So, the two winners are:

1. My high school reunion outfit from last month (sadly it's a bad photo). Every time I wear this sweater (a splurge, and too warm for my climate) I get compliments.
http://monochrome.lookfab.com/.....th-reunion
2. My favorite outfit of last year! The shoes have become complete staples, as predicted in the post.
http://monochrome.lookfab.com/.....rail-shoes

I'm glad I came across that photo from last year, because I've worn that sweater so rarely that I almost forgot about it. I think I'll wear it on NYE.

Just a quick chime in to say thanks for sharing your looks!! I will explore them in detail later today over a tea (or wine).

I will add mine at some stage - I haven't been much on the forum the last couple of weeks (I will write something in the off topic section) and am living very casually here for our summer holidays right now.

But in the meantime Happy New Year to you all

Lisa, so great to see you post and I recall all those outfits with pleasure. The one with the T and the turquoise jacket was a standout but so was #4. Hope you post outfits again soon.

Greyscale, I loved your reunion outfit! It was perfect.

Always Trying, those are both fantastic outfits on you! Your standout footwear really amps up your style.

Super fun flipping back through everyone's pics. My thoughts, with no explanations behind them

Angie - 4, 5
Tanya - 4,5
Aileen - 4,5
Mochi- my eyes aren't that good anymore
Suz - 4,5
what is with 4's and 5's?
Bonnie - 1, 11, 12
Ms Mary - 2 (and of course your wedding dress )
SaraL - 3,7,9, 10
harmonica - 9,10
Runcarla 3 , 7
Diane - 1,4,10, 15
Celia - 4, 8
Tracey 4, 9
SFAN - 6, 7
Carter - uh, all of them? Seriously. I want to be you.
MIrjana - 5, 6

It's a great exercise to look through other people's favourite shots of themselves - especially when their style is not at all your own. It forces the eye to pick out details and see where proportions (as one example) you may not like for yourself work for others and why.

I am going to copy LisaP and write down the 1 that I love the most from each person....

I have also added a smattering of looks I like.

1) A fun smart casual look that became a FFBO
2) Summery boho from early 2016
3) Party look
4) A well worn dress - this was worn to work, casually and out to dinner
5) I love the drama of the long floral skirt, I mostly wear it with a navy silky tee in the evening and feel tall and elegant.
6) My first pair of shorts that I like in about four years. I have subsequently added another two pairs of shorts!!

Wow I didn't think I'd find many (I went in spurts of photo taking, and some of my favourite outfits were never snapped), but I had a hard time narrowing it down to these.

WOW. Been cooking all day for a bash at the Cox Castle tomorrow night and come back to an exploded thread. WOOOHOOOO.

LOVE THAT YOU ALL POSTED.

LOOOVE SEEING YOUR OUTFITS HERE.

LOVE THIS THREAD.

VERY HAPPY!

Suz, I will check out your thread. Thanks for cheering everyone on here. You are amazing.

Excuse my brevity, ladies. My arms are sore at the moment. But here are my faves from your short lists:

Mary, OF COURSE your peacock wedding dress hands down, followed by the after party outfit in #6. Killer to the Power of Killer wedding couple.

Sara, #5, 8 and 9. Polished and pulled together. Great palettes on you. But your cruise dress that Suz chose is my absolute fave.

Harmonica, #5 and 9. Love you in mixed geometric patterns.

Carla, #6 and #9 - our Queen Mustard in dainty flats, with a bit of dandy thrown into the mix.

Diane, (thanks for the kind words), and so hard to choose! You had a very stylish year. I’m going to go with #15 because that Winter floral is incredible and unique. #1 is next and then #10 and #12 right after that.

Celia, thanks for the kind compliment. #4 hands down. You have set a high bar for hat style.

Tracey, #9. Love you in shades of brown.

Style Fan (and Sophie), #5 hands down. SO adorable, I could eat you up.

Carter, go Team White Bottoms! Fab analytics, GREAT uniform dressing, and I’m going with all your white pants looks as my best. You had a stylish year. (Thanks for the kind words).

Mirjana, thanks for the compliment. I love your dress look in #2 and your gillet look in #8. You had a fabulous year too.

Meredith, like your capsule, and you look gorgeous in that frock.

Nancy, you have never looked better, and I LOVE your new short curly hair. I’m going with your most recent Converse look as my fave.

always trying, your outfit with the red shoes looks wonderfully festive.

Lisap, great to see you post here - and you crack me up. I can’t see the outfits because the pics are really small, but from what I can remember, #1 and #7 - I LOVE you in a bit of colour. You had a stylish year, and we love looking at you!

Greyscale, #1 has fab layers. Great with your textured red hair.

Sally, #1. Seeing you in that shade of apple green makes me giddy. LOVE. And you wear Sporty Luxe with the best of them.

L’Abeille, I lithe the Audrey vibe of #1 best. Nice silhouettes.

Sally, I am with Angie about #1 -- it's gorgeous -- (and isn't that Pantone's colour of the year?) I also adore your outfit for dressup (black halter dress with green shoes) -- it is sort of the dressy version of #1, now I think of it! And thanks for the kind words. I hope we meet one day, too.

L'Abeille, you had a great year! Love #1 and #2 especially but wow does that blue in 6 flatter you!

Angie, it's my pleasure to comment and look. I love this thread.

Wow....everyone looks amazing in their best outfits of 2016!!!

I've been down with a terrible bout of flu, so will add the photos I still have on my phone. I'm sure there were many other 'fav' looks, especially over the summer....but these are all I have on my phone right now.

Ah, home at last! I don't really photograph many outfits (or post,) but I want to play!

1-2: What I wore today. The pants are actually aubergine, my favorite color! They were from last year and I scored them this year at the Rack for $99 and had a $20 gift certificate!

3: Ivory tunic sweater, black leggings, Jag jean jacket (comfiest ever, feels like knit, but it's not.) And of course, the Apple dog...follows his owner around all day at the Apple store, so cute!

4: Dinner out with my birthday twin (same day and year!) Black silk draped neck shell and black fringed skirt from #6. Necklace is Charming Charlie's, so is the one from #1-2.

5: Fab, faux wrap dress, I scored at a consignment shop...really not a consignment shopper, but it had the original tags! (Michael Kors, the cheaper line.)

7. My first pair of boyfriend jeans--found the day after Thanksgiving at the Rack--one pair in the store, my exact size! Still getting used to the proportion...maybe rolled a bit too short?

8. Banana Republic sweater, still have them in the store, super recent. Size M fit, but I wanted it a bit longer and slouchier. (Black leggings, Via Spiga OTK boots that need to be polished.)

Paws compliments of the Denver Museum of Science and Nature...super fun day with my niece and nephew (new hubby!)

Thanks for peeking!!

I love this thread. These are a pretty typical representation of my style this year - more colorful and a bit more maximal. The last two are fun for me to see how much my kids have grown. Will comment on other threads next!

This was a fun exercise, though a little tricky since I didn't have many of the originals so I screenshotted from the app. The main moral from my closet and outfits is I have a lot of great clothes and I desperately need to cull some.

ETA: 3 is a new outfit picture! With the SW boots out and about, and my new hat.

Fun seeing everyone else's too. Don't know why it double posted...

Angie the blue lace dress was made for you. But I also remember seeing you in that beautiful blouse and "getting" how your style was evolving.
Tanya I am going to pick 3,6, and 9 not as my favorites so much as a tribute to how fantastically versatile you are. All your outfits are fabulous.
Jaileen 2 and 5 hit is out of the park for me. You look wonderful in dresses.
Mochi for some reason your pictures are tiny on my screen but I can still pick out 3 as super.
Suz can't wait for your thread. Nothing beats your hair transformation this year. All of you outfits are wonderful but I will pick 2 and 6 for their evolutionary significance .
Bonnie your style was incredible this year. A current Diane Keaton with a lot of other fab things. I will pick 7 and 9 as but they are all excellent.
Ms.Mary your pictures are sublime. No ranking possible.
Sara L. no reason to be hard on yourself, you look great! I love you in dresses and 10 and 16 stood out.
Harmonica you are a pattern mixing princess! I love 5 and 9!
Carla your hair is your best accessory. 6,7 and 9 among other fab outfits.
Diane how to pick? I will just say 1 and 15 and everything in between!
Celia you look fab! I cannot resist a hat or good coat (4 and 6).
Tracey 4 and 5 are great representations of your style!
SF 3 is unbeatable!
Carter I love how you find versatility within your "uniform". I do love the long flares at the end of 2 though.
Mirjana your outfits are terrific. Love the high contrast looks (4 and 8).
Meredith your capsule photo is a work of art.
Always trying - don't think I saw these. Love the first one especially.
LisaP I am very frustrated that your pictures are tiny on my screen, but very hopeful you will be coming back to the forum.
Greyscale minimal and fabulous!
Sally 3 is a showstopper!
L'abeille variations on stripes and long vests suit you so well! (4.8 and 13)
Manny 1, 7 and 9 are super wows!
Dana 7 for trying new things and amazing curly hair!
Crazyone 3 is irresistible!

I think this is my most favorite thead of the year.

I loved reading and seeing the various looks.

For me I realized that i did not photo any of my work fits. I will try to work on thst a bit more. I really enjoyed these fits the most from this year.

1 at a thrifters tea in april of 2016
2 gathering for a photo shoot but this is my away from work look everyday. Yhis was the summer maybe july-august

3 may of this year. It was a bit cold. I was going out after work so ichanged shoes. Love these boots.

4- going to a HOUSE (dance) music event.

5 a night out at a play small birthday crlebration in May.

6 summer ready. My cat print skirt.

7 September camo love this jumpsuit. It will be my goal to get hack into it.

8 birthday photoshoot for myself end of April.
9 maxi and peplum again. Sometime in july. Love them all.

I didn't post many outfits last year, but one look definitely stands out. I wore this a lot in summer and felt great wearing it. Otherwise I was falling back on safe formulas quite often and didn't do a lot of experimenting in 2016.

Killer style all round!

Here's a collage of some of my faves mostly from the second half of the year. I had a good year with my wardrobe and can honestly say I love everything in it, so I've got lots of faves

Hey, Happy New Year to you all xxx

I found it hard to choose, which I suppose is a good thing. But one thing became clear, I definitely favour skirts and dresses over pants. I tried to choose outfits that were indicative of the things that I loved in 2016.
Outfits 1 and 2: because I loved this silhouette (new to me in 2016) and I continue to enjoy it.
Outfit 3: because I loved A line skirts in 2016 and rediscovered my love of dark brown.
Outfit 4: new found love of floral and long time love of Ombre and burgundy.
Outfits 5 and 6: pattern mixing was really fun for me in the second half of 2016. And I continue to love my OTK boots.
Outfit 7: cuffed jeans were my favourite jeans look this year. And I also found my leopard bag to be a workhorse. It increased the happiness factor of every outfit that I wore it with.
Now I am off to look at everyone else's contributions

i look foward to the post every year...i love seeing everyones favorites. and seeing multiple photos, of multiple outfits at one time really helps me to get a feel for fabber styles.

i had a number of favorites this year, and looking back on them now, 2 things are clear....WHITE and OLIVE......for a long time most of my wardrobe was navy or black with white or cream thrown in to "lighten" it up. but in the last 2 years, white is moving from an accent color to the main event. and olive has just creeped in. i credit YLF for helping me to understand that olive mixes with navy and black (and red, pink).

the last photo was taken on the Jersey Shore as the weather was changing from beach day to huricanne, but IMO any day at the beach is fab, so anything i wear at the beach is fab!

Happy New Year to all, looking foward to a FAB 2017!

I'm traveling, and on my phone, so I apologize that I'm not able to easily comment on everyone's responses, but suffice to say that you have all had wonderful style years!

I grabbed the photos I could find that were still on my phone, or in my WIW posts. I apologize that these are in completely random order.

There is a pretty strong theme in most of my favorite outfits. I'm taking this forward into 2017 by keeping in mind what I truly enjoy wearing that also functions well for me.

ETA: Some themes that clearly run through my favorite ways of dressing these days:
- black and deep colors, but with splashes of print, sparkle, etc
- jackets and vests in cooler weather; cold shoulder and sleeveless in warmer weather
- a piece or two of statement jewelry in every outfit. Also, scarves
- footwear is key. I feel best in edgy/distinctive/tough footwear
- denim is absolutely necessary for me to get dressed

I welcome your thoughts or impressions!
