Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Possible Graduation Dress (with pics)

Following on from my other thread on what to wear to graduation, I ordered a dress. Here it is: http://adressandabike.wordpres.....ion-dress/

It is a turquoise green shade which I love. Does it suit my body shape? It hits me mid-knee. Do I need to get it shortened?

Any suggestions for accessories and shoes if it's a keeper?

Thanks!

I think it looks nice! That's a lovely color, btw.
Seeing as it hits you mid-knee, I would assume the length is ok. It looks ok to me! But since your a petite I'm unsure... Hopefully someone else will give you their input.
I'll also leave the accessories to the other ladies, as I'm no good at that. (I do see a necklace with this, but as I said, I'm not very good at accessorizing!)

Gorgeous! So 50's and fab. I’d shorten the length a little. I’d go retro on the accessories. What were you planning to wear on your feet?

sooo pretty! Do you have any alternatives for the accessories/shoes/bag or are you planning to buy everything new?

The dress suits you beautifully. I would accessorize with a colorful floral brooch in a vibrant spring color -- something like Mrs. O is wearing in the July 7 or July 8 post. Both are classic style dresses like yours.

The dress fits you perfect, I would acessorize with silver shoes and just a small silver necklace, something like this:

Very, very pretty. The color is just great on you!

It's beautiful Dawn and very flattering on you!! The colour and cut really suit you. I'd go retro with the accessoires like Angie suggested. Will you be buying new shoes or do you already have some in your closet? Perhaps you could post them and we could take it from there.

I love it! It's really flattering and I think you could get a lot of use out of it. It could be made more casual depending on how you style it. See my recent post about my 50s inspired dress: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....?replies=6

As for accessories and shoes, I think strappy sandals in metallic would be nice. When I thought about accessories, I immediately thought of the brand sorrelli for a nice pop that would bring out the dressiness of that dress and reference the vintage feel. Beautiful dress that looks beautiful on you Dawn :-) I just want to wish you congratulations on your graduation and will wait for you to post pictures of your final outfit! I do like the idea of going retro as also Kyle's idea of a big floral pin.

It is gorgeous on you!

Maybe I'm way off, but I love combining blue and teal or adding a print shoe.
How about any of these?

Thanks everyone for your suggestions. I will have to buy new shoes as I don't really have anything suitable. I ended up giving away most of my heels as they were quite uncomfortable so I would like to buy some sort of an occasion and nights out shoe. Personally I am thinking a silver, grey or nude shoe but I also would like to look at the options of purple or blue with it as well.

As for accessories, I am definitely looking for a flower pin, maybe in a yellow or coral colour. I'll base that decision on the shoes. I also would like to get a belt for it to emphasise my waist, maybe in grey or cream.

Try etsy.com for a huge selection of floral pins. Or, if you are crafty, you can make one yourself!

There are also online articles that provide fairly good how-to instructions.

What a beautiful dress - Dawn, it looks lovely on you! I think you could shorten the dress by a couple of inches. I like the idea of a floral belt - I wouldn't go too retro with your accessories because it can look a little costumey. Personally, I think you need to keep a modern edge. A pair of silver dressy shoes would be a versatile item to have in your closet but I love your idea of purple!

Purple was my first thought regarding jewelry. I was thinking of something like this necklace, but in amethyst:

(I hope that works--it is the first time I have posted a photo!)
