poll... fishnets to church?

So I'm wearing my new 9 west dress (which hits me just an inch above the top of my knee cap) and boots that come up to 2 inches below my kneecap and black microfishnets. My husband has already left for church and my 14 year old son approved. I can't post a pic at the moment, but would YOU wear fishnets to church? It's funny because my only other option is no tights (because black opaque doesn't look right.) but for some reason I'm slightly hesitant to wear the fishnets but would go bare legged no problem.
what do you think? yay or nay?

I would say it depends on your church. Is it A.) a funky, liberal place, or is it more B.) traditional and conservative? If A, then go right ahead. If B, I vote no.

I wouldn't call it liberal, but not ultra conservative either. I"d say relaxed as far as how people dress. (I will definitely be the most dressed up- but that doesn't bother me at all)

I'd feel comfortable wearing the Oroblu microfishnets, but not so much a larger weave of fishnet. Have you tried layering your fishnets over solid-colored tights? I've been doing this frequently ever since I saw how great it looked when Kristen tried it, and really, once both pairs of tights were on my body it was no less comfortable than wearing one pair only.

It's so funny that you posted this, because I had my nude microfishnets on with my dress this morning. I changed at the last minute, because I just felt weird. The dress is on the shorter side, and I just didn't feel covered enough for church. Fishnets and heels felt like too much leg for church. I switched to opaque tights and tall boots and felt just fine.

I'm sure your fishnets were totally appropriate, especially with the tall boots. I say yay. I'll wear fishnets to church if my dress is a little longer. :o)

Queenie - Are you peeking in my window? I just attended a church retreat yesterday wearing my gray plaid skirt and nude fishnets (layered over nude hose for warmth), and my 4" black heels...oh! and my new ruffle moto! I would feel comfortable wearing that to church because it seems subtle and chic. I don't know about black micro fishnets unless they're layered over nude hose for more polish.

I would probably do it - HOWEVER my comfort level would be that the dress is not too short, and doesn't reveal too much thigh (fishnet) when I was seated.

If you are uncomfortable, people will notice _that_ more than your hose.

I would definitely do it. Only a couple of inches are showing and there's nothing inherently disprespectful about fishnets.

Yes Yes Yes. I would layer them if you feel at all uncomfortable though. The layering is easy and warm.

I wear patterned tights all the time to church- not a problem for me if the skirt is not short-especially microfishnets.

I wore microfishnets today to church also - nude with nude hose underneath. I also layer black microfishnets as well as other patterned hose with different colored tights often. When the weather is warm enough, I will happily wear the microfishnets on their own. As long as the skirt is a modest length, I think it is absolutely appropriate. And my church is on the conservative side.

haha- I guess little old ladies all across the country were having strokes over our fishnets today

Jean- I guess I feel that fishnets could give off a different vibe than patterned tight. I associate fishnets with ..... well, hookers.

I did wear them and after the first few minutes of uncertainty felt fine. Especially since I could keep my dress pulled over my knees while sitting-- otherwise I wouldn't have felt so okay with it.

I'm a LOL (Little Old Lady) and wear micro fishnets to a conservative church frequently in nude or black. I usually have them on with a pencil skirt or sheath dress, They show when I sit down, but the skirts always hit on or just under the kneecap. The micros don't, for me, have the hooker vibe.

As usual I am coming to this too late (because of time difference) but just wanted to say that I too am struggling to get over the hooker image. I think this is partly because I haven't seen anyone wearing them in everyday life here in Australia and I would be worried that it would have the wrong associations for other people too.

If I was to wear them, then the type of outfit you describe seems about about the most appropriate way to incorporate them in a church outfit.

I actually asked my husband if I looked like a prostitute this morning, and his reply was, "No, but prostitutes should be able to go to church too!" :o)

I wholeheartedly agree, but that's not the image I wanted to project. :o) Next time I'll try fishnets with a longer dress or skirt.

Aren't fishnets much more mainstream these days?

Despite saying that, I tried some one for church last week and decided against it, but I think mine weren't 'micro' because my toes poked through the holes and drove me nuts. They went straight into the trash. Of course, now that I'm thinking about it, I probably could have layered them over nude hose first, huh?

My church is fairly traditional (I hate using words like liberal and conservative because it's all so relative, you know) but we have a wide variety of ethnicities represented and there is no "dress code" per se. Peoples from different parts of the globe come dressed in traditional attire, it's great.
So I do wear fishnets. They're ME and I can be ME no matter where I go.
There are things I have that I reserve for date nights that I wouldn't wear to church, but it's a skirt length or cleavage baring issue.
I've attended churches that had an unspoken dress code, and it really bothers me when people get so petty over CLOTHES when we church going people have far more important things to concern ourselves with.
I will get off of my soap box now.

you're so right Sarah. And our church has no dress code either, but I do want to be respectful in the way I dress (especially since my husband is in a position of leadership) I pretty much want to stay away from anything too alluring and that was my concern about the fishnets.
But I wore them and the walls did not fall in

queenie, really? You haven't seen fishnets anywhere else? I think I've seen other women wearing them to church. Good for you for wearing them.

I understand what you're saying about being respectful. I bought a zebra print dress from Target:

and while it fit well and was modest, in my opinion, DH and I agreed it was a little much for church, even with a cardi over it.

Queenie, I have only seen one person wear fishnets in real life and I can't tell if they were micro or not.
