Pointy-toe shoes, hopelessly out of style?

I've come to realize I have a much harder time getting rid of shoes than clothes. I have some very nice boots and pumps that have quite pointy toes, and that's not a look that seems to be current now. It bums me out, because I still like the style! Maybe I should post some pics, but in the meantime, any thoughts?

I consider Shopbob to be very (high) fashion-forward and they posted these looks featuring pointy toes for February in a series about how to wear wide-leg pants.

Two of the looks in this styling series featured no visible shoes (the pants were that long) so that would be another use for your pointy toe footwear.

So I say, if you plan on wearing wide-leg pants in particular, you will be on-trend with your pointy-toe footwear.

Funny you should ask, I just finished reading a magazine (I believe it was Marie Claire?) that said pointy toed shoes are back IN style. Yay! I'm a fan of anything that extends the leg line. My favorite!

I'll take some pics and post for feedback. That's interesting that there are now indications toes will go pointier again. I'm personally a fan because my feet are slightly on the narrow side, and I have rarely found a rounded-toe pump that doesn't slide right off my heel. It's like they cut the entire shoe wider on those styles. I also like the long leg line a pointed toe creates.

It seems to be something that comes back around frequently, stylewise. I think part of why I wouldn't want to get rid of them, even if they're not current, is because I tend to spend a little more on shoes. I would probably just store them in another part of the house until the styles turn!

I have several pair and love them much more than round toe.
Even if out of style, I'd still wear them......teehee

I keep a beautiful, upholstered small trunk on the floor of my closet for favorite out-of-fashion of shoes! They have to be in wonderful condition, and they have to be something I love, love, love to make it into the box... but, trust me! At the risk of sounding old as dirt, ALL will come around again. I've got a pair of very exaggerated pointy toe Bettye Muller winkle-pickers in there now, and just this season I am dusting off a beautiful bronze pair of "flatforms" that I bought in Lucca about 15 years ago. You just have to be patient.

I think it depends a little on the shoe, but my classic pointy toe pumps are still on rotation in my closet! Maybe they aren't always super fashion forward, but I don't believe they are out of style either.

Not too pointy stiletto shoes are looking very fresh to my eye at present. I can't wait to replace my existing sitting shoes with a pair.

Don't shoot me but I think even when the styles come around, they don't look exactly like they did back when. Now, some shoes are really super high quality, brand name, etc. so they can be worn as vintage (if really old), but otherwise they will look just dated. Of course, each shoe has to be judged individually, that's why I said let's see pictures.

I vote no, they may not be "of the moment" but I consider a pointy toe a classic style when it's with a thin heel.

Great topic. I have some classic, kitten heel, pointy toe ankle boots that I am unsure about wearing, but the responses are making me think I should go for it.

OK, here are some pics!

1-2 Nicole kitten heel mules. The color may be muddled in the pic (these are just iPhone snaps), but it's a olivey-brown and soft black croc pattern. Very comfy.

3-4 Reed Evins crazy-pointy-toe pumps. Dark red ombre finish on the patent leather, really beautiful in person. The heel is barely higher than kitten height, but they're not comfy. Bought for a special event at full price, so they were spendy. Look great with wide-leg black trousers.

5-6 Donald J Pliner boots. The color is more subtle in person. Purple croc pattern, moderate stiletto heel. Not bad comfort-wise. Just haven't worn them since last winter.

7-8 BCBG boots. Microsuede brown stilettos. To me, these seem the most dated of the bunch. Wore them a few years ago but not recently.

9 Nine West black suede pumps with hardware and high stilettos. Not a comfort shoe.

10 Nine West silver patent pumps with stiletto heel. To my eye these are the most classic of the bunch.

Looking forward to your feedback! I have an idea of what is worth keeping and what isn't, but I'd love to see your ideas before I tell you what I think.

IMO #5 and #10 are fab, the other styles still look slightly dated as the point is so exaggerated. Looking forward to seeing what the others have to say.

The only real nay to me is 7/8, which I don't think I'd love whether they were in style or not. I think all the others could be fun and retro in the right context - 3/4 is such an amazing color!

My only nays are 1 & 8 - all others are keepers. I love a good pointy-toed shoe peeking out from under a wider leg pant, looks edgy, and sophisticated to my eye.

BTW 3/4 are to die for, they are just goregous!!!!

I agree with Bella that when trends return, they are always interpreted in a fresh new way. So, that brings me into agreement with thimblelina that you *really* need to love those older shoes -- and will be reunited with an old friend when you wear them again!

9 and 10 seem wear-now to me. That light color in #10 is exactly the same color they were showing in the Shopbob feature. The hardware in #9 feels on trend to me.

Purple is a trendy color as are booties so 5/6 are keepers to me as well.

Excellent! You have all helped confirm my instincts. 1/2 and 7/8 are going to Goodwill.

I've had these in my closet so long, I almost don't see them anymore. I needed fresh eyes to help me evaluate! This was a good time to do this, as I'm rediscovering some of my orphan clothing.

I know from experience that if I don't love a shoe, it will go unworn. Don't know why it's so hard to let go! I have an embarrassing surplus of shoes.
