Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Plaid shirt and lace cami

I have a plaid shirt with dark blue (ink blue or navy), a lighter steely blue, and a sort of light beigey grey contrasting color. The blues are the dominent colors while the grey/beige is secondary. Normally my instinct would be to pick up the contrasting color in the cami, but that color would look awful near my skin. I don't own any lace camis so I have to buy one and I'm looking at Old Navy since they're cheap and colors are plentiful.

I guess I'm wondering whether I should go for contrast, or pick something similar to the colors already present in the shirt. These are my choices.

I can't link to the shirt itself but I made an approximation of the colors here (just the first three colors):

What about pink or white?

I was thinking of pink Khris. It's girly and would make for a fun contrast. Were you looking at the light pink or the darker one?

I was afraid the white might be too stark and there isn't a cream option available. I have trouble with stark white camis because somehow the fact that they are white makes them look more like a true undergarment that isn't mean tot be seen, rather than a layering piece. I know that's not true but I can't help seeing it that way!

I think either might work. Bring your shirt with and try them on at the store. They have another lace cami version that has white lace and the cami part is colored:

I would go for either purple or yellow one, they would both achieve a lovely contrast.

I like the 'Purple grape' and maybe the 'Serrano Chile'.

Wow, so many opinions. Ironically, I have considered all of the options mentioned as possibilities. Maybe that indicates that I have more freedom than I thought? Hmm. Angie might have to wield her authoritative wand on this one.

Ooh, I like the yellow or purple one with the color combo you posted.

I'm thinking most colours will go. The plaid colours are fairly neutral and muted, nothing to bright so i think you could go bright with your cami x
Edit i really like the grape purple, one of the turquoisy blues or the darker blue x

I am going to be virginal and say white to match your ipod.

Oh Angie, I haven't owned a white ipod in years. I have a BLACK ipod but don't use it anymore. My iphone takes care of everything (again, black). Now...if I wear a white cami, I should try and repeat a shot of white elsewhere in the outfit right? White pearls? White watch?

I guess you might be right Louise. The world is my oyster.

Oh I say try the pearls. I remember you saying that you have difficulty on when to wear them. Maybe this is the perfect outfit for pearls.

I was going to wear pearls anyway so I'm not entirely sure why I asked that. Ha.

I just want to make sure it looks like a cohesive part of the outfit. As I said, white camis often trouble me. I'm always afraid it looks like an undershirt or something that isn't mean to be seen.

Oh, Maya. There goes my matching iphone idea straight out the door. Of course you have a black one. I saw it! (You could probably guess that I have a white one).

I’m sticking to my guns and staying with a white camisole !

Oh! Angie has an iphone! I thought they made you nauseous :)

White it is!

They sort of still do :0(

But it's the best way to read the forum while I'm out and about!
