Patience is Getting Specs--Opinions, Please?

Hi Everyone!

So, today Sarah, Patience and I went out to look for some glasses for Patience and Sarah. I was the official camera man, which is why I am making this post. I'll make a separate thread for Sarah's photos.

We headed to Santa Fe Optical, which is where I got my red glasses. It was tough, because there are so many funky pairs of specs, and Patience has the features to pull a lot of them off (unlike me, who really only looked good in a few pairs). We narrowed it down to these (Patience or Sarah, correct me if I'm wrong):

1. Judith Leiber Blue Specs. These have really interesting decorative arms with inlaid pearls and tiles (Patience, these were the second blue ones you tried):

2. This pair is really a statement. It's got clear, red, and smoky black stripes on them:

3. Not sure who these are by. They are light brown with tiny sparkles in the arms:

4. Face a Face Specs. Patience tried this pair on, but would probably opt for a different color, either 521 or 869 on this site:

Opinions are greatly appreciated. :)

Now some "just for fun" photos!

These glasses are like african safari glasses. They had tortoise AND croco-leather arms. Definitely not Patience's style, but if anyone could pull them off, it would be her:

Also, Patience ultimately decided against these because the sparkles weren't really her, but I like the photo because Sarah looks so cute looking at Patience in the mirror! :D

Patience doesn't wear much makeup (just lipstick/gloss and mascara), so she was kind enough to let us drag her to Sephora (which was right next door) and give her a makeover. Sarah was the makeup artist and I was again, the cameraman.

Natural Look (just tinted moisturizer, benetint blush, curled eyelashes with mascara and Clinique Black Honey lipstick). I'm jealous:

Dressed Up a Bit (added some plum eyeshadow and a different lipgloss):

So Pretty!

Thanks everyone!

I didn't want to give my opinion in the actual post so others could make up their own minds, but I think my favorite are the last pair (#4). I really want to see them on you in the other colors (I'm kind of favoring the 521 color). I hope you get a chance to try them on.

My second choice would be the funky striped statement glasses.

OMG! So much fun! I want to go spec shopping with you guys!!

I have a hard time deciding - I think Patience looks fabulous in ALL of them. So I will anxiously await everyone else's reviews.

Patience, you look a lot like friend of mine!

I think they all look nice. But my favorites are No. 3, the light brown. So pretty!

What a fun trip! I don't know much about choosing frames (I usually go by instinct) but I really like #3 & 4.

Posted 9 months ago

I can't decide. They all seem to suit her. Patience, you look GORGEOUS in the last picture (well in all of them, but especially there...look at your smile!).

Thank you, Ana, you are a wonderful camera woman and a big help with the glasses. SFO got the last pair in a different color for me to try on Monday and take pics. I'm not going to give an opinion on which ones I like best because I'm not completely sure. And I will probably take to heart the opinions posted here.

Concerning the make up, let me say the pleasure and good fortune was really all mine. I get really overwhelmed in Sephora but I had a blast with Ana and Sarah. I'm starting to wonder what I did without them. My husband really liked what they did too.

That is how I feel when I go to try makeup Patience. I don't even know where to start, and somehow I don't feel comfortable having a stranger doing it for me. Maybe going with friends would be a good idea.

I've looked at them all again, and I still can't decide. I suspect you can't go wrong - you look great in all of them.

As for the make-up, you look stunning - but you also look just as stunning without a stitch of make-up at all. You are very luck and very pretty!

Patience, you look great in all of them. My favorite is the last pair and I even like the red. Second are the blue frames #1. My least favorite is the light brown pair #3. Good luck deciding.

I like the last pair and I actually prefer the red color to the other options. The first 2 seem too heavy to me. I like the coloring of the second pair though.

That's exactly my feeling about Sephora, Maya and Patience, I wouldn't ever set a foot inside. Lucky you to have mentors :)

I think you look great in all of them, but my favorite is the second 'statement' pair. Maybe they are just too much but you look great!

Marianne - maybe after our next YLF gathering we'll have to go to Sephora. I'm always unsure what/where to go there too!

Hmm, I feel I'm not qualified to pick the best pair. The only one I don't prefer on you is no.2 - something about the lines doesn't look good to me. The red color is lovely, though.

Patience, you have a terrific smile!

I love that we get to consult and vote :-) The 4th pair is my favorite, they look awesome on you, and I think the shape and style are the most flattering. I also really like this specific color combo, but it would be interesting to see the other colors as well.
I like both the 1st and 2nd pair, though none of them as much as the 4th pair. I think the color of the 3rd pair is not the best for you.

Patience, you are a gorgeous woman, you don't need it at all but you look great with make up.
I think I like #3 the best and then #4. Are these your only choices? I think your perfect pair is still out there.

Without reading the other comments, I like # 4 the best, and I think the 521 colour is amazing and funky. The first two pairs seemed a bit too big and round, and the third pair is just a little too sharp, plus I wonder if you'd get tired of the very distinctive shape, Patience.

It's so cute how much fun you three have together.
I think Patience in the minimal makeup is just gorgeous. You look great without it too but it does add a bit of charm. Sarah is a good makeup artist with a light hand.
I can't make a choice on the glasses either. I'm with Bella, I think your best pair is still out there somewhere. They all look good but one is going to be way better.

Posted 9 months ago

I like #1 and I like #4 the best . Love the makeup! It's so great that the three of you get to shop together and that we get to participate vicariously!

Hey Patience! I love you in glasses. You have so many styles that look good on you. I really think I'd like to see the ones being ordered for you to try on Monday. I think that style was really nice, and that color looks really fun. Some of the others *might* be better as "second pair", if that makes sense. You'd hate to tire of them if they're really funky.
That's why I like having the options of contacts, too, and I know you do as well.
I'm definitely biased, but I think the makeup is so pretty on you. Sephora is still overwhelming to me sometimes, but I've been in enough and am fairly familiar with a lot of the lines of cosmetics.
Patience is wearing (in the second photo) a Laura Mercier tinted moisturizer, Benefit Benetint (Cheek Stain), Clinique eyeshadow (love this on her), Clinique gloss, and Dior mascara. She really doesn't need much makeup at all, and I'm quite envious of that.
Thanks for letting us drag you into this. ;)

My fave is actually the sparkly pair that I think you have already decided against Patience? The colour and the shape are amazing on you!

Posted 9 months ago

JJ, we might need an expert to come along - you wouldn't believe how little I know about this stuff :)

Again, without looking at the other responses:

I think I prefer you in glasses with a slightly smaller frame than one and two. That's why I like three best, but I'm not sure about this colour on you. I'm guessing you will look marvelous in the Face a Face 521 specs, the combination of the brown with the Prusian blue will look gorgeous with your amazing blue eyes.
If those don't work out, I'd be tempted to try more specs with blue frames.

Looks like you guys had tons of fun during your shopping trip!-)
You're one of those few lucky girls that looks super with or without make-up. WOW!

Bump for Angie, but also, I really want to know how today's venture went! Did you try the other color of the 4th pair? Photos? How did it go? :D

Posted 9 months ago

Again, I haven’t looked at any of the responses before posting this comment. I whole heartedly feel that Patience needs smaller specs (narrower in depth – not width). Shapes #1 and #2 don’t work. Your eyes are drooping in these shapes. The shape of #3 and #4 is getting closer. If I had to choose I’d say #4. How did I do?

Patience, you always look pretty, but a little make-up adds just the right amount of polish and makes you simply dazzling in a very natural way. It’s fun to have fabulous friends like Ana and Sarah :-)

Number #4 was our favorite as well, Angie, but in a different color. Sarah and Patience went back to try them on today, and posted a new photo in a different thread. I hope you see it. Those are hands down my favorite so far.
