So this image was posted on a local boutique's facebook page. It was just listed as #inspo.
It appears to be from backstage at runway show or the ilk. I really like the pale velvets.
Has anyone seen clothing like this, dresses, tops or skirts?

Anna, check Asos! They've got lots of velvet stuff right now, including their plus and tall lines if necessary. Dresses look a little short/skimpy but there are a few longer/midi options.

I did look there. Wasn't quite right. There was a nice pink velvet dress, but it was cut to below my boobs.

Zara link doesn't work. Anyways at my current size their stuff doesn't fit.

ETA I think I found it, the short sleeve velvet top. If it came in an XL, might be ok, but it only goes to a large.

Does H&M ever work? They have what they're calling velour dresses on the CAN site. Not in the colours you want and not the style, but enough items to make me think they're going to pursue the velvety thing some more.

H&M US didn't have much of anything. Though they had a velour shark costume, HA!
Anthro had way more velvet furniture than clothes. They had one tunic, but it just looked eh, nothing special.
Whole idea is probably a pipe dream anyways.

Those are pretty yummy, Anna. I've seen lots of velvet lately, but more jewel tones than pales. You might check Free People; their "She's Got It" velvet shirt dress in Sea Fog would be a beautiful color on you, I think. The FP sizing is unpredictable, though--my daughter loves their stuff, and takes Mediums in some things, Extra Larges in others. If the velvet doesn't have to be pale, FP also has a gorgeous dolman-sleeve top and a long vest in wine velvet. I would also check around the thrift & consignment shops. Pale velvet skirts were available a few years ago, and might turn up second-hand now.

Here in the stores I have only really seen a few velvet jackets. I have seen some velvet leggings on line. I do like this trend, especially in these beautiful soft colours. It's quite a romantic look.

I love velvet. I have seen small amounts of it in retail here in Muskoka (2 hours north of Toronto). Free People I think? It must be coming.

I love the idea. I've been looking for velvet, too, and not finding much. Considering how it's one of the hyped trends of the season, you'd think there would be more in stores already.

I tried a Zara velvet camisole a few weeks ago because it was a lovely shade of pink. However it covered almost none of my upper body. I tried to pass it off on my 17 year old instead of returning it and she refused.

Oh, I have a deep love for velvet.

I was surprised by the selection on the Asos site. Some of these items may be worth trying to look at in person. The first top looks rust, but the color is called Dusky Pink. Maybe it's lighter in real life than on screen. I think some of these other items could give the look you want if you layered and paired them with other items in the palette you're looking for. I think a high neck victorian looking lace blouse under some of the very low cut vnecks could be gorgeous.

Anna, what a beautiful inspiration photo. I'm a sucker for anything velvet. As a kid, I remember a red velvet coat, a chocolate brown blazer, a dark green dress........ Heck, I'll even settle for waleless corduroy in a pinch.

I did see one structured jacket at BR. In citron (cool for others, but not for me) and a rich navy. These are very practical ways to bring in a velvet touch, but not nearly as luxe and dramatic as the look I think you're going for.

It might be worth scouring etsy and ebay. I believe velvet is pretty dyeable, so you could adjust the color on white pieces. I'd even be tempted to try bleaching out an inexpensive black item as a test piece. If you could bring black velvet all the way down to beige that might open up a ton of possibilities.

I agree with you on the light velvet. After seeing nothing but dark velvets for what seems like more than a year, I was thrilled to find a thrift store Adrienne Vittadini louche velvet blazer in champagne. Can't wait to wear it and I just picked up some similar color suede lower heel Capezio pumps in a very strict tailored style with slightly darker slim leather trimming. Not your style, I know, but it's definitely mine. I do say that you could even wear that velvet shark suit and make it look covetable!

Also this brand appears to have a lot of velvet although some of it is kind of clubby. I don't know anything about them although I think I've seen them at Nordstrom. Sizes only seem to go up to 12 though and some only go to 10. Here's some options that come in a 12:

Checking it just now for size, I see that the Free People "She's Got It" shirtdress goes up only to a Large, but seems roomy: the bust in size Small is 40", length 37.5". It looks good belted or free, would be pretty with a glimpse of lacy silk cami underneath, and that pale pinky-lilac shade is so delicious . . . hmm--I may be talking myself into this one! (It's cut like the Vince silk shirtdress so many of went for last year, and that's been a comfy workhorse for me.)

Tulle, that Free People shirt dress is great. But unless the large is really roomy, it won't work. Current chest measurement is 44". Yay boobs :/

Although I've never bought from them, the Soft Surroundings catalog arrived in my mailbox today with a crushed velvet tunic on the cover. Nehera is a designer brand carried by Simons (Canada) which is showing a line of drapey velvet in a warm beige this year.
