it's been a pretty mild week here, but since i'm still recovering from all that has happened recently, i'm afraid style has taken a little bit of a back seat. i haven't had enough energy to think of something to put on besides jeans, but i did try to liven things up with a series of accessories and jackets that wouldn't otherwise be put into rotation till spring... so i present to you, dear YLFers, my Lazy Week!

1. jeans (old navy), white tee (gap), light plaid swing jacket (malaysian brand), green scarf, long necklace (both forever 21), yellow ruffled mary janes (target)

2. jeans (old navy), lacy cami (UO), striped button-down (old navy), olive blazer (thrifted), cameo brooch (malaysian), purple mary jane wedges (thrifted)

3. skinnies (no idea!), wellies (rampage via shoes.com), fuschia top (thrifted), double breasted off white blazer (ae), plaid scarf (...can't remember!), fuschia hairband (forever 21), yellow purse (thrifted)

4. coral lacy tunic (thrifted), black skinnies (target), grey boyfriend cardi (UO), black leather flat boots (gap) - colder that day, so i wore my winter coat over this.

5. black long-sleeved tee (old navy), skinnies (no clue), green scarf (forever 21), square gray earrings (malaysian), plaid jacket of awesomeness (thrifted, and i will love it forever ;))

thus ends lazy week. it's okay to be harsh if you think i should've done better - i know i should have! also, you'll notice i wear a lot of cheap brands, but at this point in my life i'm afraid that's all my budget can accomodate. can't wait for the long weeked! happy valentine's day, everybody!

Wow, Hanna, for a "lazy" week you sure look awesome! I love all of it. You have great style. Your thrifted finds are amazing. Tell us more about where and how you thrift. I'm starting to get into thrifting myself so I'd be interested in hearing your tips!

thank you, aj and shiny! i just felt like i didn't make much effort - threw on some jeans and a top and left it at that. it's good to know i didn't look sloppy!

shiny, i could write a LOT on thrifting...as i'm sure lots of people could here! mostly my tips would be:

- shop thrift in an upmarket area - you wouldn't believe some of the things the wealthy throw out
- i know lots of people like consignment stores, but i love the thrill of hunting in my musty local salvation army or goodwill thrift store, hehe. maybe i'm just weird. but the sense of accomplishment at finding a gem - and scoring it for so much less! - is amazing.
- wear layers. makes it easier to try everything on. my local salvation army has no changing rooms, but there are mirrors positioned throughout the store. wear a cami as your base layer so you can try tops over it, and wear skinnies or leggings so you can shimmy skirts and dresses over them to see if they fit. if you're really worried about fit, go armed with your own measurements and a measuring tape!
- shop with an eye out for simple alterations. you obviously shouldn't buy something stained (ewww) or ripped beyond repair, but rips at seams might be fixable, dowdy skirts can look fab if taken up a couple of inches, missing buttons can be replaced with funky vintage ones, etc. so don't just look at thrifted items as-is.
- thrifting online is just as much fun as thrifting in stores - i believe i've mentioned in a previous thread how much i LOVE etsy.com to source for vintage goodies.
- don't just buy things because they're bargains! though i suppose that's good advice no matter where you shop - i find that the SUPER low prices you get when thrifting really make you lose your focus. that's when i'm tempted to buy vintage pieces in trends i would never be able to integrate into my wardrobe. be careful

eep. i'm sure other people have MUCH better advice than i do. maybe we should start a separate thread!

thank you everyone! *blush* you are all so kind. thank you especially for the kind thoughts on my situation - i miss my aunt and on many days wish i was home to help shoulder some of the emotional burden and stress my family is going through, but such kind words - from strangers, no less! - makes things that much better.
