Outfit w/ Skinny Jeans

I had store credit at Forever 21, so I looked for some shirts to wear with skinny jeans. This is new territory for me, so I'm not sure if the look works. I am trying to experiment with clothes that I normally would not wear, so here is my first try.

The shirt still has the tags, so I can return if it doesn't work. The first two pictures are of the shirt as-is. If I keep it, I would not wear it like this. I just wanted to show the basic shape/style:

Then I tried some different variations with a cardi and belt. Also, I would probably wear different shoes with the outfit.

I think look #1 looks best - defines your waist very nicely. I'm not wild about #2 & 3 - something is off with those looks. I think the colors of the shirt and cardi look great on you and really work with the skinnies!

i also love #1 the most! i think buttoning the shirt takes away some of the fabulous volume.

I also like #1 the best -- the colors work together very well and look good on you. I like the pattern on the top. I think you could also wear a shrug with it to cover you shoulders but not cover up the top. Shrugs are a little different shape that cardigans so it would give a different look.

Another vote for the first look. The third look seems to need a longer cardi with the belt and that may not go with the volume of the top.

The first look with the sweater unbuttoned and over the belt is so beautiful. Success in putting this together! Beyond 10. I was really struck with WOW for your color combonations and the fit of everything. Good job in putting these pieces together for an amazing outfit.

1 looks the best, hands down. I think it's because the cardi is unbuttoned. Something about buttoning it makes it look odd.

Thanks ladies! I appreciate the feedback. #1 was my favorite as well. It's amazing how a belt can change the look of an outfit. I was in the dressing room trying on that shirt and the belt was in my bag ready to return at The Limited. But then my YLF light bulb came on and I decided to try it on with the belt.

AJ - I like the idea of wearing a shrug. I have one in black that I wear with some outfits and it's a nice alternative to a cardi. I'll have to see if I can find one in a complementary color for this shirt.

Joy - I was thinking too a longer cardi might work better for #3. Thanks for the feedback. I have one on order from Victoria's Secret so I'll try it out and see how it looks.

Thanks again for all the feedback - it really makes my day. I have really become more bold with my fashion choices due to this site and all the great post/suggestions from this forum. It is definitely b/c of this site that I am now having so much FUN shopping and trying new things!

I like this neckline and shape on you very much - you have gorgeous shoulders. I can see you getting mileage out of this dress on a winter beach escape - wear it with sandals and no skinnies and you are all set.

As for the layering looks, I'm in agreement - I like the cardi unbuttoned and with the belt. Perfect!

Alternatively, you could try a longer cardi - and a skinnier belt. That might work if you want to button the cardi. But, I really like option 1 and that cropped cardi is so cute and such a nice color.

Wow Shiny - thanks for the compliment. Sorry I missed your reply, otherwise I would have responded sooner. That is a really good idea about wearing it as a dress. The length of the top is definitely long enough for that.

I have a longer cardi on order from Victoria's Secret, so I am going to try it with the shirt once I get it.

I recently got another shirt from Forever21 to try with the jeans. I am also wearing them with my new gray shoes from Me Too:

Finally, I have had these Nine West boots for several years, but lately I have been liking pointy toe and kitten heel styles better. I was considering giving them away, but do these work with skinny jeans at all?

I like your new shirt from F21 with skinnies, very cute. It is great to be able to see your face, you are so cute!

On the boots, I personally do not like square toes so I won't comment further. The main think that matters in general is the fit on your calf with the jeans inside the boots, you should be able to zip them but there shouldn't be any extra space.

Thanks for the feedack! This is my first time trying skinnies, so I wanted to get some feedback before wearing them in public.

As for the boots, I think my tastes have changed and I just don't like the look of square toe shoes any more. I think I was hoping that if I tried them something completely different (like skinnies) maybe I would magically see them in a different light. I will probably end up giving them away.

Tanya - thanks for the information regarding the fit of boots with skinnies. I will keep that in mind next time I am shopping for boots.

As for the boots, maybe a pointy or round toe might be better.

I think you look great in all the outfits, but I do like the second top from Forever21 better - the one that's a bit shorter. I also think you look great in the "jeans tucked into boots" look, and I think you'd look great in a slightly more updated pair of boots (if they fit into your budget.) I really like your style - you look great in bright colors and patterns!

I really like square toes - it's a matter of personal preference indeed. Since they are pretty classic boots and look like they're in good shape, I'd keep them to see if you like them again in a couple years. Those things go in and out of style and our preferences change. Just my 2 cents.

I agree with Antje on the boots. They are good boots and boots are an investment. I like the square toe. Suare toe boots and shoes are always in the periphery. Ofcourse Angie may set me straight on that.

I'm with Antje and San. I like some square toed shoes - not sure if they are 'in' at the moment, but that doesn't always stop me from wearing what I like;-)
You look great in skinnies, and the colours of that top are great on you!

Personally I prefer a lower heeled boot with skinnies (riding style boot), and I'm wondering how the boots look paired with a skirt? Would that make any difference in how you feel about them? E.g. I think they could work with a (denim) pencil skirt or a fun A-line skirt...

Thanks again for the feedback everyone. As for the boots, I have been convinced to keep them. They are in good condition and I might have a need for them sometime in the future. This definitely relates to Angie's post today! I don't think they work with the jeans, but I will try them with some skirts and see how they look.
