Outfit for a charity event - YouLookFab Forum

Hi guys! This is my first post but I've been lurking for a while. I have a question im hoping for advice on but to first introduce myself – I’m 24, I am a hair stylist and obsessed with makeup/hair, and shoes/bags are my personal indulgences so im a bit of a fashionista too!

Anyway, I’m active in a charity that is planning a fundraiser where volunteers will be getting pied-in-the-face and slimed (if you remember Nickelodeon green slime from when we were kids haha!) to raise money for cancer research. Attendees will be able to donate to get pies to throw and buckets of slime to pour on volunteers haha. My friends figured that as a fashionista, stylist and a total girly girl, I’d be a perfect volunteer, and so they signed me up!

My friends jokingly gave me an idea – that since I have a reputation for always looking put together, it’d be funny if I got all dressed up to be pied/slimed and we might raise more money! The idea being people would rather mess up someone who is all done up and would pay more to do so. I’m wondering if you guys think this would be a good idea and if so what i should wear? If you were attending the event, would you pay more to buy a pie or bucket of slime to pour on someone all dressed up vs the usual t-shirt and shorts? Thanks so much for any help and opinions!

I think that could work!!

I don't really like those events myself, so wouldn't want to participate, but I can understand the reasoning your friends are using and it makes sense.

It sounds like a fun idea. If you have anything light or bright colored where pie/slime would stand out nicely against (and is machine washable, if it's something you'd like to continue wearing post event), that would get my vote.

I have it in the latte/navy color combo. I like it a lot and its dry clean only, but its also something i could easily replace. What do you think?

I think the idea of wearing something dressy would bring more money but how about someone's old bridesmaid dress or look for one at thrift stores. Maybe one of your friends has one they can part with. People will be looking at the over-all look, not at details. You are a very good sport to do this.

That also sounds like a good idea, Joy. I did have another wedding a year ago in which I was a bridesmaid and wore a ivory colored lace dress which may also work perfectly for this.

One option I'm thinking about is that I could probably dress up whatever outfit I wear with a really nice pair of heels, which would be fitting since I'm known among my friends for my designer shoe collection haha My thought is that my shoes are less likely to be ruined than my dress - what do you guys think?

Thanks Angie! I'm leaning towards going with the Tadashi dress, because i think given the cream color of the top and the fact that its delicate lace, makes it kind of the perfect thing to wear to get "slimed" and have it be hilarious. Do you guys agree?

What do you think about the shoes?

Now this is my kind of thread! I've helped with "what to wear to a wedding? Interview? Meet the in-laws?" kinds of threads. But never, what to wear to get slimed/pied in!!

Can you get the slime off of the Tadashi dress? If not, are you willing to sacrifice such an expensive beautiful dress for charity?

If I had plans to wear the dress in the future, I wouldn't take chances. I would go hastily to a thrift shop and get the most girly-girly, dressy dress and shoes. I'm assuming everything would be tossed except for your underwear. You could even be holding a little bag for maximum "I'm a high maintenance woman" type of effect.

I adore your dress - I think it is too lovely to be slimed.
I agree something very ladylike would be a great idea but I think thrifted or old clothes dressed up would be a great idea.

Hmm..just when I thought I'd decided on wearing the Tadashi dress you guys are giving me second thoughts! I do think it'd be the perfect dress to wear for the event. I'm really not sure if my clothes will be salvagable - the slime is going to be like in the Youtube video I posted, which looks pretty messy haha. The pies are going to be just whipped cream and chocolate sauce im a pie tin, but I may be getting dozens thrown at me if we get a lot of donors! I'm totally willing to sacrifice the dress for charity, especially because I love shopping for new outfits for formal events and rarely rewear dresses like that one...but I hear you guys on getting a thrifted dress.

On the accessories, Coco I love the idea about the bag, thats genius! Thats an area where maybe I can thrift and get a nice leather clutch for cheap, is that what tyou were thinking?

For the shoes, do you guys think they'll be salvagable? As i explained before I'm thinking they are the most likely to survive, but im sure they will still be covered in slime. My besties (who set me up to volunteer for this in the first place!) told me I should totally wear these gorgeous Louboutin nude sandals, and they would be perfect especially with the Tadashi dress....

I would wear something thrifted (including shoes) because the outfit you are planning to wear is too stunning to be slimed. I think everything you are going to wear is going to go into the bin unfortunately, possibly shoes included! Make sure you take lots a change of clothes so that you are not going home all slimed up.

You are an excellent sport to be doing this.

Hey guys! So I have given some more thought about what to wear, and while the recommendation seems to be to go thrifting, I had a thought - I went to a kentucky derby party last spring, and bought a dress and hat just for the party, which I haven't worn since and won't have too many occasions to wear. I'm thinking this could be a perfect outfit to wear for the charity event, because it's not something I would wear everyday and given the light colors, it'd be perfect for showing off all the green slime and pie filling

What do you guys think? And if I did go with this outfit...hat on or off when I'm getting slimed haha?

I'd only wear something, including shoes, that you are willing to trash. If they are salvageable, that will be a nice surprise. Guys are mostly going to want to see your clothes clinging to your figure. I think the Derby Day dress with its short hemline would be a hit. A fancy hat is s great idea, but you don't have it on long and it will be ruined.
