Outdoor concert Seattle - what to wear?

Hi all,

I am fortunate enough to be attending a U2 concert next weekend in Seattle - my favorite band! It will be at Qwest field, an outdoor stadium, in the evening (7 p.m.). I think our seats will be covered (there is a partial roof) so I shouldn't have to worry too much about getting wet if it rains. However, Seattle has been cooler than normal this Spring, and I HATE being cold. I expect the temperatures to start out in the low 60's that evening and drop into the 50's as the sun sets around 9.

Any ideas for how to dress to be both cute and comfortable? I could go with the ever-popular fleece, but I'd rather look a bit hipper than that. We may be going out to a club afterwards as well.

Angie I know you're in Seattle and that you hate to be cold like me! Any advice? Thanks!

I'm looking outside at this lovely Seattle rain and shivering a little bit for you! But very envious - what a great concert! What about a skinny jean with boots? That would let you layer up on top without feeling too bulky overall and help keep you warm. I hate being cold too and I usually find that as long as my upper half and feet are warm, I tend to be okay. Underneath all those layers on the top half, you could have on a fun, cute top to hit the clubs later. Have fun!

Thanks, Christy! I think skinny jeans with boots is a good option.

I figured layers on top, I'm just trying to figure out which layers. My jacket options are white pleather jacket, lime green short trench with detachable hood, or denim jacket (which I wouldn't want to wear with jeans and is kind of hard to layer underneath).

My husband and son are going to that concert also! They were supposed to go last year on Father's Day when it got postponed. My only suggestion is DO NOT WEAR HEELS! I wore heels to a U2 concert in Vegas and after walking across a rubble-filled parking lot and standing for four hours, I practically colllapsed...

Oh, one other suggestion - if it's Seattle-chilly, wear a pair of tights under your jeans or pants, so you don't get cold when sitting.

Conundrum! White pleather jacket sounds edgy and perfect for a concert...green trench with a hood sounds infinitely more practical but still cute (and appropriate for the venue since lime green = Sounders & Seahawks!). I'd probably go with the trench if it were me.

Not reading the other responses, I would wear skinny jeans with boots. On top I would use some kind of nicer jacket (not fleece or water proof, nothing from REI) or blazer, and tuck a scarf in my purse in case it gets even colder. FWIW, I grew up in Seattle and also hate being cold! Have a wonderful time!

I know how you feel, I am just praying it warms up before my wedding on June 18th - I have a cute sundress for my rehearsal dinner! : ) I would go for skinny jeans, flatish boots, a long sleeved shirt with sweater over it and cute scarf, and then top with the trench!

What Amy said. I'd probably put a cami on under the long sleeved shirt for an extra layer.

Before you said you'd be under cover, I was going to say a rubber suit. LOL Seattle isn't as wet as what is pushed in the media... except this year. [rolling eyes] It's been insanely wet and cold this year.

I think the trench will be my best bet, too. Thanks, ladies! Tights under jeans is a great idea, as are the layers and scarf. I don't wear scarves enough, and this will be a great excuse to buy a new one that goes with my coat.

The weather has to improve soon, right? I live a ways north of Seattle and we are having the same weather. Ugh.

Jeans would be great. Maybe a heeled shoe if your comfy. Perhaps a graphic t with a blazer with sleeves scrunched up????? Don't know if this would suit you....just trying to take a stab at it

LOL Angie! I don't think I will be wearing my puffer, but I may put some gloves in my pockets just in case. My hands are always cold!

Puffer? ????? ????? WOW!! Am I weird for wearing one layer and no coat at all in the 50's? Sometimes even just 3/4 sleeves? Either I'm a hard-core Canadian or just plain odd. Yeah, it's probably that -- when temps are around 40F I like wearing just my leather moto.
Cindy, sounds like you've got some super suggestions, so I have nothing to add other than have a great time!

Michelle, I'm with you. A puffer in 60 degree weather is unfathomable to me. I figured Angie was being facetious because I just can't imagine it. I would probably do a light blazer plus a top in the mid 50s, and once it hit 60, I may end up taking off the blazer.

Well, regardless of whether you run cold like Angie and Cindy or have an overactive internal thurmostat like me and Steph, layers are key! And the lime green trench sounds seasonal and practical. Love the scarf idea too, myself.

Cindy, since you do run cold, would the pleather jacket actually keep you warmer than the other coats you have? In my experience, pleather tends to keep the warmth in when I wear it because it doesn't breathe like natural fabrics.

Also, if you're the type of person who dances around at concerts, you might end up keeping yourself warmer than you anticipate.

And Steph, the fact that the concert is outdoors is what concerns me. I will be sitting for some period of time prior to the start of the concert, which is when I'm likely to get cold. Also, the weather has been very unpredictable. It will probably be in the 50's/60's, but it could also be raining and windy. Or it could be in the 70's and sunny. Or all of those things in the span of a few hours. I just don't know. (and neither do the weather forecasters, apparently)

I will probably wear the trench as it's easier to layer underneath, is more waterproof, and has a hood in case it rains.

And while I can't imagine wearing a puffer, I would freeze to death in a t-shirt and blazer!

Well, the concert is tomorrow, and the weather report is in - warm and sunny! Will have to rethink my clothes now, though. But that's okay. I'm thinking the jeans/graphic t/blazer look right now, as some of you suggested. I will need to buy a blazer, though...

H&M had some cute boyfriend blazers pretty inexpensively, you could park at the bank of america plaza, walk to H&M and then walk down to Quest, or take light rail! I used to do that all the time!

The show was fantastic! Unfortunately, I do not have any pics from that night, but I will recreate the outfit and post pics when I have a chance. I ended up with a basic rock concert, jeans and t-shirt look. Dark wash boot cut jeans, heather gray v-neck top and white denim-style jacket (it's actually a lighter-weight cotton), and gray Converse, as we had to walk a lot and and climb stairs, etc. It was very comfy and I ended up not needing the jacket until late at night when we left because it was so warm! Amazing for June in Seattle.

My only complaint? Trying to catch a cab in Seattle is impossible!

Layers definitely! And comfortable boots/shoes since you'll probably be on your feet for most of the concert.
