About your wardrobe and personal style

OT: Will be much less on the forum

Dear all, I wanted to let you all know that I will be much less on the forum from now on. My adviser has agreed to let me graduate at the end of the summer (late August/early September) so my life is going into complete overdrive for the next half a year.

I have to try to wrap up my research (and hopefully write and submit 1-2 more papers), transfer my work to a new person, assemble thesis committee, write and defend my thesis; then look for a research position in NM and interview like crazy. Then I have to look for a new roommate, interview people and show my apartment. Also, I will be going back home in May for a couple of weeks to renew my passport and take care of some other stuff.

Because of the trip I am going on a complete and indefinitely long shopping ban and everything else is seriously going to influence my time.

I won't be staying away, I will be checking in, posting my weekly outfits and replying to some threads briefly; but sadly, I won't be able to answer to the majority of the threads anymore like I did till now.

The latest reply was from kari . You can follow further contributions to the conversation through the RSS 2.0 feed.

Huge congratulations and big, big hugs to you, Tanya! This is incredibly good news! You must be so excited (and a bit frantic). You will be missed on the forum -- please keep us updated on your progress when you can and let us be a sounding board when you need us. What an exciting time for you (and BF!).

Oh Tanya, I know I speak for everyone when I say I'm going to miss you tons. You're one of the most active members here so there will certainly be a void. That said, I completely understand and support what you're doing, and I'm glad you're finally set to graduate! That is great news indeed, and I'm sure it will be worth the hard work. I know you mentioned wanting to go home a while back so that is also good news. Once you graduate and find a job, I'm sure you can celebrate with a fabulous investment piece. Good luck to you and please drop by whenever you feel you need a break or a little bit of leisure time.

We hope that we can be of support to you during the next hectic 6 months. We are here if you need us.

Tanya, that's fantastic news, and congratulations, although you'll be missed tons. I'm glad you'll still be around a little bit. It must be so exciting to know that you're almost through the "student phase" of your life.

I wish you all the best as you enter this very exciting and busy time in your life. Please don't completely disappear from the forum - you're a great fashion inspiration. You've taught me that things really do look better when they fit right!

Tanya,

Congratulations! I know that the time before graduation is very stressful. I am sure you will be great!

Will you be looking for a postdoc, a tenure-track position, or a research position in a company? Be sure to get the best recommendation letters you can obtain!

Good luck in everything!!!

Tanya, hugs to you during this busy time! You will make it through! I am a military wife and have to deal with craziness when we move so I know how stressful a move can get. I'm also busy with school too, but trust me there is still time at least once a week to come catch up with YLF. Just do the best you can everyday, make sure to eat good and sleep enough, and stay organized with a planner (which I'm sure you are already doing). Good luck with your research paper!

Tanya, we'll miss you! Be sure to stop by when you need a little downtime to de-stress. Congratulations on this exciting news!

tanya that is great news! congratulations! if only it didn't have to take you away from us too. oh well! we will be rooting for you! *hugs*

Tanya, you will be missed! You have inspired me so much; I wish you the best of luck! I admire you - I sometimes have a hard time "buckling down" to meet a goal - but I know you are determined and will succeed!

You have done an amazing job of showing your fashion sense and intelligence in your field. You will knock 'em dead in your interviews!

Wow, I am completely overwhelmed and deeply touched by everything that was written. I will miss you guys a lot too. Thank you all so much for all the support and all the wonderful wishes.

I will not be completely gone, no worries. I'll try to find some time to be here at least twice a week, and I will probably be reading things on almost daily basis, but sadly I will not be able to post on daily basis like before.

HannahC, I am not interested in tenure-track position ( more stress that I need), so I will be looking for either a postdoc or a research position. Since I have to limit search to the specific city where my BF moved, I can not be too picky, especially considering the current economy. As long as it is an interesting project, I won't mind any form it comes in.

Congrats, Tanya! You must be a rockin' grad student for your professor to let you graduate early. What a great vote of confidence.

Your next few months sure sound CRAZY hectic. You will be super missed on the forum - it just won't be quite the same without your thoughtful input and inspiring photos - but you're doing absolutely the right thing by just focusing on "getting stuff done". And you can reunite with your boyfriend earlier, how nice!!

Good luck with everything, do check in occasionally, and no worries, it sounds like you'll be back in time for fall shopping :-)

This is an exciting announcement. Transitions are stressful, full of anticipation and planning, and fun. I am certain that you will undertake everything that you have to undertake now with style and panache - the kind you have shown time and again on the forum. Like the others, I have learned so much from you. I look forward to hearing from you when you are able to join us. Best of luck with everything.

Congrats, Tanya! I'm very impressed and proud of you! I wish you good luck with everything. I know it won't be easy, and I'm positive you'll succeed in all you set out to do.

Please keep us posted and come over to vent if you need.

We will miss you lots, but it's more important to take care of everything you listed. And please, Tanya, don't forget to take care of yourself during this hectic time.

[virtual hugs]

Tanya you have been so giving with your time and expertise on this forum and I have often worried that you might be cutting something short.
All the best for this final push to the end.
You will be sadly missed but I think you are making the right choice.
Looking forward to seeing your pictures and posts however brief. Know that you will be in our thoughts.

Thanks again for all your pics, links, welcomes and sympathy

Hi Tanya! This is such exciting news for you! I'm so happy you will finally be finishing up. The end is in sight! :D

Posted 8 months ago

Tanya - we will miss you but this is definitely for a good cause. I know that you must be so excited and perhaps a bit overwhelmed with the prospect of graduating and moving on to the next phase of your life. Best of luck getting everything done and we look forward to having you back once life gets settled down again. And CONGRATULATIONS

congrats tanya!!! thank you so much for your posts, pictures, and thoughts. when i first discovered ylf, i instantly enjoyed reading what you had to say about fashion, kind tips for others, and weekly picture 'template'...

best wishes, hope to hear from you when you get a chance...

Tanya -- what a wonderful and ambitious thing for you, and what a (temporary) loss for us. Hopefully someone else will step in and start providing those matchless Tanya-esque collections of links to exactly what everyone is looking for...

I thought you would appreciate this. My 12-year-old son finds my interest in YLF both amusing and admirable, and I am amazed at what he has picked up just from passing by the computer occasionally. The other day I was looking at some of your "What I Wore Today" photos, and he came in, took one look, and said casually, "Oh, that's Tanya. You love her style." :) So true.

Best of luck to you!

Oh how bitter sweet Tanya! After working so long and hard towards this goal, to have it so close and be facing the final stretch must be surreal to you. Maybe we can plan one last Boston Tea Party before you leave for NM?

Posted 8 months ago

Congratulations on the pending graduation and best wishes on all the hard work between now and then. Please keep us posted on your progress.

Posted 8 months ago

Tanya, what an exciting time for you!!! It must feel great to be in the home stretch. I am sure the next few months will be stressful and hectic and like everyone else, I will miss your posts - you are such an inspiration! As a fellow bargain hunter, I bow down to your amazing tracking & hunting skills:) Good luck with everything!!!

P.S. Don't rule out the National Labs because of citizenship issues - they hire non-citizens all the time. They just do it through contracting companies.

A big thank you to everyone for all the nice words. I will miss being on the forum a lot.

April, that's such an incredibly sweet story about your son. He must be very perceptive to be able to recognize my photos.

Nicole, it is bittersweet indeed, although right now it only feels crazy. But I did catch myself feeling very emotional about transferring my project ( my "baby") to someone else while I was talking all the time how I can't wait to be rid of it. Of course we can have one ( or more) BTP! I will still be here for half a year.

Shana, I know that National Labs can hire non-citizens sometimes for some positions but it still limits my options a lot.

I have finished my resume this weekend and tomorrow I have to start sending it to some people, which makes me very nervous.

Aaah Tanya, I just saw this. You must be feeling happy and a little sad and stressed and excited all at once.
I'll really miss super stylish you and hope we'll be seeing more of you again soon.
In the meantime: remember that we're here if you need any help at all.

Lots of luck with your thesis, moving, the job hunt etc.!!!
