Orphan skirt

Ok. Trying to get back to taking outfit snaps. I've been deep in my closet, finally switching out winter for summer. In the course of things, I discovered I orphaned this skirt below. I used to wear it with orange tops, but I purged orange from the ol' closet during this closet dive.

Anyways, this was my attempt at styling it. I wore it for an early morning coffee with my best friend from fourth grade. What do y'all think? Yay, nay, suggestions? I really wanted to wear my driving mocs, so I did; but maybe they weren't the most fab finish...

Also, trying this new app, Cortex Camera, which is supposed to help with low light pics...

I like it and the driving Mocs with your bag. What is the brown fabric on the upper part of the skirt? The photo looks great.

I like it, Rachylou! The mocs, top, and purse all work together nicely with it. If you're looking for something else to pair with the skirt, I'm wondering if coral or turquoise could work with it?

Joy - the brown is my top, a long silky thing...

Jeweled - good colour ideas! Turquoise I might have, prob not coral tho... Hmm

Thistle - yeah, keep me inline! Lol. Skirt is from the Put A Bird On It phase. But now that it's orphaned... Like always, when I'm at a loss, I fall back on my unimaginative preppy, dressed by my dad ways. The mocs and the satchel... Ahaha! Someone get me gin and saltines! Hahaha!

I think it looks great with the layered tops. The skirt may not be quirky by itself but I think the whole outfit has a quirky feel.

Looking some more, is this too school girl? I'm an old lady. Of course, one never really purges the nursery from one's soul when one is preppy... There may be nothing for it...

I like the layering. It adds a playful touch. Maybe you need to add extra playful and quirky when wearing this skirt. How about your fur cape from the decade challenge? A graphic tee? Or your grey and cream pullover sweater?

Although I wouldn't pick something like the skirt for you when you are QFOD, I think you've made the outfit you. Searching for other suggestions for you...but I got nada!

I like the idea of pairing with the cricket sweater, go whole hog with it. This isn't a bad styling though, just feels a bit off with your current goals. Also, what are the temps down there right now? Are we *gasp* warmer than you are up in Seattle!?

I just looked - and yes! Y'all are much hotter than down here. Golly olly! Not that it isn't a cloudless, windless sunny day; but it's crispifying as opposed to hot. On the other hand, that is all I wore out - no puffy. Can you believe that?

I don't know why I have such a hard time staying the fashion course. I just wander off all the time.

Put a cricket on it. That's what I thought (like a pet cricket in a cage) till I remembered the sporting cricket sweater.

Her style is reminiscent of yours, too, with the addition of a bit of "Grapes of Wrath Retro."

I like the the quirky preppy look. It works for you! I like Joy's idea of pairing it with a graphic tee -- although that could veer into hipster territory.

Agree it would be awesome with the cricket sweater for an English Aristocracy hanging out at the castle look. Ideally with Pimms and wet dogs.

I think brown goes with cream, soft pink, turquoise, dull green, orange, the right yellow, and black. I have a not dissimilar skirt that I am yet to wear this winter, I might try and wear it one day this week in solidarity for these poor lonely brown skirts.

I kind of love this - the satchel is fantastic here. What is the brown over the skirt. Is it part of the skirt? An apron? The beauty is that you don't actually look preppy. A fine ironically sincere look.

Rachylou, the skirt looks as if it is left from 4th grade, too--not a bad thing, necessarily, though that light brown plaid seems a little tired & Marian-the-librarian-ish. I'm guessing that's what you like about it? Keep on straying!

tulle - Lol! It's a weird skirt. It's the sort of plaid that should be wool, but it's very lightweight. And yes, I believe I was attracted by the depressed vibe, which I think fits with the Great Recession zeitgeist. Hehe... I should wear it with falling-down socks, oxfords, and a ratty sweater. But that's so 2000.

shevia - the brown is bottom of my top - long silky blouse thing. Sweatshirt is a cropped affair.

Kiwigal - ooh good thinking. Nothing says summer like a Pimms/7-Up/cucumber mixer. If I wet the dog tho, she won't hang with me, hehehe!
