Opinions on this top for Patience

Hi Everyone!

Anne Fontaine is starting their Fall/Winter sale, so of course Patience and I had to go check it out, since we were right there to return her floral skirt (I'll let her update you guys on that).

Patience got this amazing pleated white button down shirt (which is kind of out of her box), and she also tried on this top:

It was a toss up--we liked both equally, but in different ways. The grey whirls are actually like an eyelash thread--it's like a tiny little grey fringe. Kind of edgy, and definitely her style. Plus, if anyone has the body for a top like this, it's Patience. She wasn't sure how many different ways she could wear it though, so she's got it on hold and is thinking about it. We wanted to post it here to get everyone's opinion. I thought what she has on plus a boyfriend cardigan might be a cute option.

Anyway, thanks everybody for your help!

That's a gorgeous top!! And I agree: you look incredible in it Patience, WOW!!
I'm going to need a moment to recover from all this (please post a picture of the white button-down as well?), and then I'll try to come up with more ideas to wear the top;-)

In addition to outfit ideas, I'm wondering if this top is too alluring for everyday wear. It's not really practical for me to buy it if it's only a going out kind of top. It is *very* fitted and while I'm not uncomfortable in it, I want to be appropriate. I did try the size larger just to compare and it didn't work. This is how it is supposed to fit.

Ana got a black and white tiny stripe button down yesterday which she showed me. I didn't see it on, but I know it will look fantastic on her. Hopefully, she will post pics of herself in it soon.

Edit: Concerning the jcrew floral skirt, both Ana and Lauren (our wonderful jcrew salesperson) voted for the smaller size. I realized that I was wearing the skirt too low on my waist and that made all the difference. Plus, I'm another one who has realized 5 lbs of holiday indulgences.

I agree Patience, the fit is perfect, you look so slim and sleek. If I had the body to pull this top off, I wouldn't hesitate to wear it as is, I don't see anything overly alluring about it. (Curious to hear the other girls' opinion - I have noticed, and I think Antje has mentioned this too - that Europeans tend to be a bit more liberal about this.)

Oh, how about going 'all black': this top with black boots and black skinnies or leggings and then wearing a medium wash fitted denim jacket over it?
Another look would be to do the same thing, but replacing the denim jacket with either a grey cardi (monochromatic look) or a red or cobalt blue cardi.

Forgot to say: Ana's striped (how could I not like it?-) button-down sounds marvellous too!

And great to hear you're keeping the florar skirt, Patience. (Those 5 lbs are nowhere to be seen on my screen!-)

Forgot to say: I have to give credit to Ana on the white pleated button down. I was looking for a white button down on sale and Ana said, "you should try this one." I didn't really see it as me but agreed to try it on and it just clicked. So now I have something a little different and versatile. I'll take pics when I get it-- it was on presale.

Ana also tried on her mesh tunic sweater again (the one she tried earlier in the season). I hope she gets it because it looks awesome on her.

Love, love, love this top on you. I don't think it's necessarily alluring--it's just fitted. A definite keeper in my book!

Patience, this tunic top is just like the one I fell in love with at Benetton early in the season (except the Benetton version was solid black) and I wound up returning it because I felt self-conscious in it. Now that I see you in the top, I know I made a mistake. My eye just wasn't adjusted to the look. You look incredible! Amazing. LOVE. Have you tried putting a button-down underneath? (You knew that would be my suggestion, right?). Have you tried belting it?

Patience, this top plays to all of your strengths. I love the edgy feel, yet it's flattering and not "crazy" edgy. Could you layer a tissue turtleneck or blouse underneath for a different look? A belt would change it up. And I certainly think you could layer something over it, as Ana suggests.

Awesome top. It reminds me of a dress that's now way too short that I wear with similar threaded design on it. I wear it with jeans and various jackets. A while ago, I had posted pix of it with 3 different jackets, will try to find the thread. That might give you ideas for ways to wear it.

I hope you do get this top and enjoy wearing it. You look great and might turn some heads for that reason, but it is not revealing or tarty in any way. You can't help it if you look so good. Just enjoy it. It's a beautiful piece. Is it a sweater? The fact that it has eyelash thread in the swirls makes it even better. I love the length, and it is the first one of this length that I've seen that is actually flattering. I like it with the jeans and boots you are wearing in the picture. You could also dress it up beautifully.

Hooray, I think it's unanimous--you should get the top!

I just came straight home today after we went out and uploaded the photos, so I wouldn't forget. Plus, I knew she was just holding it for a short time, so I wanted to get the ball rolling for you.

I will post photos of my shirt sometime this evening. I need to iron it first. I was thinking about it last night, and it's sort of like we switched button down shirts (I got a more plain one, and you got a pleated one). I can hardly wait for you to post photos of the pleated shirt--it looked so great on you! I really like the lace tunic top, but I think if I wanted to get it, I would have to return the black and white striped one I just got, and I really like that one. Plus, as part of my fashion resolution, I'm trying to get some more basic items into my wardrobe. Maybe if it's still there when I get my next allowance I can pick it up. It is meant to be then, I guess.

Oh, I really want to get some cuff links now that I see I can wear them on the striped shirt!

All of you have put a huge grin on my face. Thank you! I'm going to get the top and enjoy it. Sihaya, I will look through your posts for your outfit ideas. Marianne, I didn't look at the tag for fabric content, but it's this stretchy modal like material. I was wearing a cami when I tried it on and the sales person told me to take it off because the top is better against the skin. She was right.
