Hi Ladies,

I have had this skirt on my 'maybe' list for a month or so but I couldn't really think seriously about it because it's been so cold and this would be more Spring / Summer weight.

Any way, took a peek today and it is now on sale so I thought I would ask you what you think. I love the shape and curve of the hem. I am not exactly sure what I would wear it with tho:(

Thinking maybe sleeveless top with a sleeveless drapey vest??

FYI it is 100% cotton and full washable and the colour is charcoal not black.

Any ideas for styling and do you see this working for me?

Well, I hate to enable you for your short summers, but this is WAY COOL!! And very Deborah. I think styling it as you mentioned would be perfect. Go for it. Sorry...

Deborah, I like your styling ideas & could see this being very useful for you
I had a similar skirt that I wore a lot - especially humid summer days in Melbourne. I just treated it the same way I would harem pants. My go to looks were funky sandals & a tank or tee. For interest (& the air con) I'd wear a cropped linen knit or unlined linen jacket.

Love, love, love that skirt...I would wear the drapey vest and tee...I would put a contrasting texture jacket with a tee...Perhaps a long linen shirt over a tee..thinking white crisp..By all means get this one...

I like it too, Deborah, and was nodding along with all the styling ideas. A cropped lightweight pullover (or cropped with high-low hemline) might work too?

Lovely color and drape. What kind of volume on top works with this? Will you get lost in it?

I like the idea of it, but I worry it will look saggy and stretched out instead of intentionally asymmetrical.

I think it is in line with your style. Suz posted a pic of an outfit with a pair of loose linen pants in navy in the last week. She paired them with a lightweight linen sweater from J Crew and it looked very nice. I can see a similar pairing with this skirt for you.

I don't like that it has an elastic waist. That looks sloppy to me.

Very arty/bohemian...you could make this work if you can balance the looseness with a more form-fitting top or one of your slim long vests to add structure to the top piece as you suggest.

If it's calling you, why not try it and see what you come up with?

Now that it is on sale, is it returnable? If it is, I would definitely buy it and try a few stylings. It's so interesting and feels very you. I am drawn to the cropped suggestions if they work.

I'm with Bella and Ceit on this one. You could convince me with your superb styling abilities, however, so if it's returnable you might try some stylings with it.

I'm a little worried about the length -- you are on the petite side, no? I am wondering if it may be so long that it overwhelms you, and there wouldn't be a way to alter the hem. But the only way to know is to try it.

Theoretically I can see this looking stunning with your stylings Deb - but I have a few concerns like others have mentioned: potentially too long, potentially shapeless...

If you can order and return easily, I think it would be worth trying. If you can't return, I would pass.

I agree with Bella re: tha elastic waist looking frumpy. However, if you are only planning to wear it with untucked tops it may not be an issue. I like caro's idea to think of it as harem pants.

Well.........knowing that you would pair it with a much more cool shoe than the model is wearing, it might be worth a try. I just think it could easily veer toward frumptown.

My concern is that fabric. I think a thicker, weightier fabrication would work better for this sort of style.

Thanks for the feedback! I do have reservations which is why I haven't already bought it and why I needed to ask. I suspect it's the idea of the skirt that I like but this one may not be it.

If returnable, you could look at it and see. If not, then not worth the risk, I suspect.

Deborah, I'm late to reply, but I don't think this is quite the one for you. I agree with Angie and was thinking similar thoughts before I read her comment. It seems a little more arty-boho than your style, which I see as more arty-sleek. I might wear something like this--I go in that direction quite a lot, I think.
