Q&A about individual items, ensembles, and wardrobe

Opinions on this cropped jacket?

I just purchased this white denim jacket from Ann Taylor Loft.

What is everyone's opinion on how cropped it is? (It hits me at the same point on my body as it does the model. Right at my natural waist, which is pretty high since I'm very much short waisted.)

Lovely jacket, you can ware it with a dress or with a nice longer blouse like the model, but don't choose a white one, it's to white, play with colors.

No, I like the white. It's definitely my style. I'm more curious about *where* the bottom of the jacket hits and the fact that I'm short waisted rather than how to wear it; though thank you for the suggestions, Rute.

I'm guessing that I'll hear that a cropped jacket, especially in a bright color, tends to accentuate short-waistedness rather than extending the torso. But I'd like confirmation of my suspicion. :)

I also purchased this jacket in dark indigo and it looks fabulous on me. It's about 1-2" longer than the Ann Taylor Loft jacket.

(I didn't buy it in white, too, because of the contrast stitching. I feel it's more casual than smart casual then, but maybe I'm wrong...)

I don't really feel like I understand the particulars of what works for short/long-waisted ladies so I'll leave someone else to comment on that. But I just purchased a more cropped denim jacket myself. I find that it is a really nice addition to my jacket selection. I think it works really nicely with dresses. I bet you would find this to be true with the first jacket you posted as well.

I think it depends on your shape as to what you can wear cropped jackets with. I'm pear shaped so can only wear cropped jackets/ cardis with dresses i look awful with cropped items over a top and trousers/ skirts. What shape are you? x

I love cropped jackets and find that it is really important where the crop comes on your waist. I think it has to be almost a bit above the waist like a bolero to work well with some outfits. I would have to see where it hits you. It all depends on the outfit. Unfortunately, I have found that I need different length jackets foe different outfits. One size does not fit all. I am sorry if that just confuses things. The jacket is really cute!!

That's a cute jacket! But as greenglove says, it all depends on the outfit. I also have different length jean jackets, and they work with different outfits. In general, the shorter one works better with skirts and dresses, and the longer one with pants. Experiment and post photos! :)

LouLou - I'm an hourglass with a small bust.

This jacket hits me exactly at my true waist, not above it like a bolero. I see what everyone is saying about it with skirts/dresses vs pants... My wardrobe is 90%, but I'm trying to branch out into skirts, so I'll try it with one of those. I suppose that in the end if I don't feel comfortable in it, I'll never wear it no matter how cute it looks off me. :)

Could you post a piccie of yourself in the jacket x

I am short waisted and have a hard time with jackets. Sometimes the longer styles are like wearing my husbands jacket - way too long. A picture on yourself would be the true test.

I've actually tried on both the jackets you posted! (But I'm older, with a large bust.) On me, I didn't like the LOFT jacket. It felt too cropped, and the pockets on the front were not flattering on me. But if you have a smaller bust, that might not be a problem. As for the waist - I think we'd really have to see a picture of you in the LOFT jacket to see if it works for your body.

I really liked the Eddie Bauer jacket. I have an older model from them, and I much prefer this new slightly cropped one. It was a bit more feminine, didn't feel so boxy, and I liked the length a lot. But since I already have a denim jacket I felt I couldn't really justify buying another one that's essentially the same. Maybe I will if it goes on sale, though.

I bought the denim jacket from Eddie Bauer in a small and was disappointed that it was too big. It is a very good looking denim jacket with just the right amount of cropped feeling. So to me, it felt like it ran somewhat large. Do you agree?
I like the look of the AT jacket alot. I hope you show us a picture when you get it. Does it come in dark denim too?

I bought the same ATL jacket a couple of weeks ago. To be honest, I haven't taken the tags off because I was a little indecisive about it. I am also short waisted (and petite and big busted to boot) so I am not sure it is the most flattering silhouette on me. I have a GAP dark denim jacket that looks great with pants but I wanted a cropped one to wear with dresses (and maybe skirts) for the summer. This jacket definitely fits the bill in that regard. I don't think that it is as good with pants although I need to experiment a little more. I think my issue is that I may have bought a size too large but now they're all sold out in my area so I don't know what to do. Martin & Osa also carries a cute white cropped denim jacket - it's a tad longer than this one (though you have to remember that I bought the petite version). Hopefully Angie will chime in on jacket length & waist proportions - I am also a little unsure about what is best.
