Nude boot question

I've been wearing nude or neutral shoes all summer and I'm trying to think of ways to transition this look into fall. I'm considering light colored boots like the ones from Inside Out Style from last week's link love blog post:

They are on the top right of the post. I am not looking at these specific Chloe boots, they are over $1000! I would be looking for something similar in a tan or taupe color. The key would be something sleek and polished, not a distressed RATE look... I'm a little scared to venture into this territory without looking too made up and contrived.

NAY) Too trendy/risky. Dip only, if at all.

Ooh, yes nude boots are a lovely idea! They'd be a nice for fall transition, and especially great for spring when those dark colors are looking heavy and feeling wrong.

Bella--I bought those LFs in Taupe almost 2 years ago and they have been the best purchase ever! Just took them in for a full resole because I had worn them down so badly. An expensive boot (although I found them at Neimans for 1/2 off after Christmas) but definitely worth the money!

Absolutely! I found a great deal on the very last pair of Frye Rory's in "sand" this summer and can't wait for it to be cool enough to wear them!

The SA in the shoe dept. at Nordstroms was just telling me that she thought we would be seeing lots of these because nude shoes were so popular this summer. She said it was early yet and boots were still coming in.

Absolutely! I'm looking for some, too, that aren't redundant with my Frye Carson shorties. In winter I was thinking that I'd only be able to wear them with blue jeans, since I can't figure out what color tights might work. What do you think? Inge had some very fab ones on in the Scotland meet-up pics.

Sarah, I also have the Frye Rory boots in sand that MaryK mentioned. My calf size is much larger than hers, so like Angie with her cognac Rorys (though obviously Angie is on the narrow calf side of the spectrum), I wear them scrunched. Most of the time I wear them with Oroblu microfishnet hose in nude and a dress, or over skinny jeans.

I'm going to be a spanner. How do you want to wear the nude boots, Rita? They will not achieve the same "nude-shoe effect" unless you can see lots of leg skin with the boots. Does that make sense?

The nude boots would be great with lighter coloured skirts (so stone, taupe, camel) rather than dark winter skirts (black etc) or would work if the skirt is more on the mini-length rather than knee length.

Hmm... I don't know if I have enough real estate on my short legs to pull that off. If I find the perfect boots at a normal price, I'm going to have to try it. Thanks for chiming in Imogen.

What Imogen says, makes sense. We are on the same wavelength about showing skin in order for them to work the way you want they too, Rita.

If you want to wear them over dark jeans - nude boots will create precisely the opposite effect.

The concept to understand here is "low contrast". How can the nude boots create a low contrast in your outfit?

Me personally, I wasn't thinking of my nude boots as lengthening my legs so much as to bookend my blond hair! That should work, right?

MaryK, I think that would totally work for you and I think it would be gorgeous!

I have to be careful with this look because of my black hair. I can't have too much "white" at my feet. It works with delicate nude heels but I'm not sure about all the leather in tall boots.

Angie, I completely get that it wouldn't work with dark wash skinny's or leggings.

I'm not in a big hurry for this because I think I am otherwise set for boots for winter, but if I find the perfect pair, I will play around with them and post some possibilities here. I am still not completely understanding why this look works for nude heels and dark clothes, but not nude boots and dark skirts (see today's WIW with black skirt and neutral shoes: http://youlookfab.com/welookfa.....ellow-belt).

Maybe they could work with gray jeans instead of dark jeans? I've worn my nude booties with my light gray jeans and it doesn't break the leg line too much (ex. below), but certainly less than with nude heels+skin

I totally want nude boots now too. Oh and her legs to go with them. I do have some khaki leggings that are basically nude for me. Might be worth a try.

I have some nude booties that I bought last year (pre-SYC) and I wore them mainly with knee-length skirts/dresses or light colored jeans - and I really loved them! I have lusted over the Frye Rory's in Sand for over a year now (I have a pair of the black ones already) - someday the sand pair will be mine!

I like that they are suede (I don't have any suede ones yet) and very low contrast with my legs. I also dig the style - a cross between moto and riding boots...
Can I wait until they go on sale? Can somebody talk sense into me that I do not need them - I own 5 pairs of boots already!

(Sorry Sveta, can't help with being sensible as I own 9 pairs of boots myself and am looking for a couple more flat pairs ^^ Those look great, I can see them working really well for you!)
