Not sure about this - OK or too much?

I'm not sure about this outfit. Is it too much with both lace patterns, or does it look OK? I have a solid black top I could wear instead.

Karie that's a difficult one! Both look amazing. If this helps #1 looks more formal and #2 very elegant but a hint more relaxed. What's the occasion ?

I vote too much... my eye doesn't know where to rest and I'm bouncing back and forth from the top to the skirt With #2, I see a very elegant woman, and my eyes scan the outfit then rest on your face.

I vote #1is not quite right also. Not just the patterns, but the contrast band at botyom fights with the directional lace.
Would also love to see how skirt looks with a less contrasty top such as a taupe or gray because I like something about the softer look of the lace top, but just not that exact top.

I like 2 best. Like Elizabeth said, the eye can't rest. If the top and bottom of #1 were the same lace, it would work, I think. Your lace pieces are very pretty and need to be worn.

Thanks everyone! I wasn't sure about #1, like you said I thought something might be off but DH liked it, so...
Anyway, I walked out the door wearing #2, even though I'm not quite sure about the harshness of the black/white. The black tee has a lacy trim around the neckline.

Angie, if I remember correctly there was a post a while back where you wore a lace skirt with a lace top. I think the skirt was flared. Hmmm...I will keep my shopping eyes open for a lace top that more closely matches this skirt. I am glad I wore this solid top today, though.

I think it's off to me because the skirt reads more cream than white? I think if the lace top were all lace and were all black it would work. TBH, I think I'd like it with black pumps as well, since these don't read as a color match to my eye (but, color is difficult online, so could just be my monitor).

Jenava, IRL the skirt and pumps are just about exactly the same shade of cream, and the bottom part of the top is white. I agree the lace-look shirt would look better if it were all black. I thought about black shoes but I was already at work by then, so next time I'll try that.

Deborah, this was a work outfit. Today one of my co-workers said. "Don't you ever dress down?" and I jokingly replied "What? I'm wearing a tee shirt! You can't get more dressed down than a tee shirt!"

It's hard to see really clearly on my screen, but the skirt lace looks summery whereas the top lace looks wintery, and I don't mean the colors. I think that's what is putting me off. #2 looks fine, though. How about tall black boots with #2?

JAlleen, I did buy this skirt last spring, so it is probably more for that season than the one we're currently in. It's going up to 72 today (tying the record for this date) and I can't believe I'm wearing a tee shirt and no stockings in November! The fabric in the skirt is not a thin summery weight fabric, though, as it's really a "lace look" cotton. I like the idea of boots - maybe tan since I don't have tall black ones.

I can't find whatever lace skirt/top I was thinking of that Angie wore, but I found this - a lace skirt with a sequined top. Perhaps a similar cream top would look good with my cream colored skirt? Or are creams too tricky to match, and does that matter?

It's difficult, I think the first one is indeed too much, however the second one doesn't do 100% justice to you and the skirt. To me the contrast is too harsh. Do you have another solid, simple top in a different color?

Krish, I wasn't 100% happy with the second top either, and my concern was that it was too harsh. I love black and white, but somehow this just didn't do it for me. I do have a solid light pink sweater top that is simple in style and wouldn't take away from the look of the skirt. I think I'll try that, thanks for the suggestion.

Also, I'm wondering if wearing black shoes instead of cream like Jenava suggested would have made it better to even out the contrast/harshness. That way it wouldn't be all cream and then POW! a black top.

Outfit food for thought...

Yes, try a cream top with your skirt. I loved Angie's outfit and bought a black lace skirt for a holiday party. I plan to wear a black cashmere sweater with it.

I agree that #2 is best. I find the patterns created by the two laces to be too similar in scale and then there are two similar but not quite the same scalloped bottoms. I believe the outfit worn by Angie is more of a textural top than lace and the appearance of the pattern is much finer or smaller scale.

The skirt looks fantastic on you Karie.
