NHYS dresses, cropped denim jacket - dos or don'ts?

Here are photos of three dresses I ordered. First two are from the Nordstrom Half Yearly Sale and the third is from Overstock.com. I already have my opinions on these dresses, but am curious to see what you think. The Nell Couture dress is actually worn two different ways. You can wear the V in front or back, so there are photos of both.
I'd also appreciate feedback on the Target denim jacket. My current jacket is darker, but it is not cropped enough IMO, especially for dresses. I like the lighter wash for summer time.

I say yes on the Target jacket. Length is a bit hard to see but color is good for summer.
My favorite dress is the Nell Couture. Would be perfect for the Dress over Leggings trials that have been going on.
Not as fond of the yellow dress - great color but the detailing makes it fussy. I'm not sure it is versatile.
The third dress is ok but if picking I'd still go with Nell Couture.

I'll be curious on what you were thinking!

The other two are winners in my book, too. You have done sooooo well.

The only piece I might question is the Target jacket. How does the pocket placement feel to you?

Hm, if I had to rank the dresses:
1. Sangria. The high-waist style and its drape are very flattering on you.
2. Nanette Lapore. Hot! I love the yellow on you. So fresh.
3. Nell Couture. It looks nice on you, but I like the other two better.

The Target jacket -- good length, wondering how it fits when buttoned?

I think the first 2 dresses are killer. The jacket and the Sangria dress are nice, but I don't think the picture is doing them justice. The picture of the dress is not as clear or direct, possibly this dress just does not have the WOW factor that the other 2 have for me. The jacket is sufficient but not special for some reason, don't know why. Possibly after seeing you in the first 2 dresses the other things don't compare. I guess you can tell I think you have 2 winners there.

Well, I love all three dresses, but that's how I roll. *g*

I have the same Target cropped jacket, and I have the same hesitations for myself. I haven't yet taken the tags off because...I'm just not sure. There's something...almost too casual about it? I don't know.

The denim jacket looks a little snug on the arms. Does it feel that way, Sarah? Try the one for Martin & Osa or Esprit.

I'm really lovin' the NL dress and the Sangria dress!

The Nell couture color isn't my cup of tea. And the denim jacket does look a bit snug. Methinks you can do better, pretty lady!

I think you should keep all of the dresses, they are all fabulous in their own way!! As for the denim jacket my opinion is don't wear it...it takes away from the dresses. I would concentrate on great accessories and make each dress pop with some color via shoes. Remember in todays world your purse and shoes don't have to match. Have fun

Thank you everyone for your comments! I love posting questions here knowing I will be in good hands.
My opinions on the dresses are this:
Sangria: Return
The shape of this dress is so right, but the colors are so wrong. I was shocked because I can usually wear brown and red but I think it's the tan color that is not doing me any favors. My skin looked more red and blotchy, my teeth more yellow, and so on. So I'll keep an eye out for this style in a better color.

Nanette Lepore: Undecided
While I (surprisingly) love the shape and color of this dress on me, it is a bit "fussy" as someone mentioned above. Not because of the detailing, but because it is SO sheer and delicate. I took good photos I guess, but you could see every bump and bulge. I'd have to wear plenty of undergarments and I'm not sure that's ideal. Sort of defeats the purpose of a cool, summery dress.

Nell Couture: Probably keep
The print on this dress is fabulous and it's so comfortable. I think it looks better with the crew neck in front from a construction point of view, although I prefer the V in front on me. The crew neck side is poofy a bit, and it seems odd to have the poof in the back and the sleek fit in the front. But I'm not 100% sure on that.
I'm trying not to be overanalytical, but I want to get the most for my $ (I do want to save a few pennies for the NAS!!). Something else to consider in regards to this dress is that I recently tried on the DVF Della in Bamboo:

I really liked the dress a lot and am wondering if it's too similar to the Nell Couture dress to do both. As much as I love dresses for the heat, I do like having other options too and don't need a never-ending supply.

Target jacket: Return
I can actually button the jacket just fine, in fact the smaller size buttoned too. The jacket is very stretchy so I didn't notice the arms being snug, but I can see that it *looks* snug. I also didn't notice the odd pocket placement until you mentioned it, Laura. I'd like to get a cropped lighter wash jacket, but I see this as a staple and don't want to settle for "okay".

Smart decisions. I love the NL dress, but couldn't see the problems you describe, and I agree that having to wear too many foundation garments in the summer is a big problem. When it's hot enough to wear a dress like that, you certainly don't want to have to wear slips and camis and Spanx too!!

About the jean jacket, I spotted a cute cropped light denim jacket in the BP department of Nordstrom. I might go back today to try it on ... will report back, because maybe you could try it too.

Aw, don't make this any harder for me. My husband likes it too. I'd keep it in a heart beat, but I just know myself and I know that I'll get frustrated with the layering of undergarments. They have a black one, but yeah. The yellow is so fun.

Late to the party but I wanted to say that you look great in all three dresses. It is a bummer that the yellow dress is fussy and impractical, it looks great on you! But I can definitely see where you're coming from and why you'd prefer to return it.

Sarah, I just got back from the BP dept at Nordstrom, and they have the jacket on the sale rack. They didn't have size S or M in store, so they are sending them from another store.

The brand is Tildon, and it was regularly $62, on sale for $28.90. It's a 3/4-sleeve denim jacket in a light wash, cropped. The sleeves are great!

Turns out, none. The NL was just too fussy, and the Sangria washed me out. I've decided to save up for the DVF dress I posted, so I returned the Nell Couture since they look very similar. Thank you for all of your comments. It *was* very hard to return that yellow dress. I kept thinking of how I could make it work, but not for that price. For that price, it better be perfect and easy to wear.
Two of the styles were really outside my comfort zone, so something good definitely came out of this. So thank you for all your help. I hope you don't feel like your comments were wasted since I didn't keep the dresses.
I've recently had another surge of motivation to continue getting healthy, and feel that "excess" dollars would be wasted on clothing right now. I'm saving up for a big shopping trip after I lose the last 15 pounds. I'm really excited!

Wow Sarah, I'm very proud of you for only going for the best in color, fit, and comfort. Good job. Why settle for less. Although I can not see in the picture that the yellow dress is light weight and see through, I do agree that you should have a good quality fabric that makes you feel wonderful.
I was all for the Nel Couture dress too but I think the DVF you are thinking of getting looks like it is better made, as in more fabric for a longer hemline, no cutting corners to save fabric, that sort of thing.
